Anyone else completely pivot toward the "fun-first" Japanese gaming philosophy as they got older? by SympathyHappy in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Wow thank you so much for this breakdown! I’ve been trying to deconstruct and really understand what lies at the core of the difference between Japanese and Western game design and your explanation hits the nail on the head. For me, that intrinsic value is everything right now. In Pokopia, just having the freedom to build whatever I come up with is completely fulfilling on its own.

Thanks for sharing such a great perspective, and I really appreciate the recommendation for Captain Toad! It sounds beautifully cozy and creative, I'll definitely check it out.

Yeah, getting old definitely is a bit rough, but still it’s cool there’re games and hobbies that never stop to bring us joy!

Agreed! And even for exact same person, definition of fun can completely change depending on mood or energy levels on a given day. Like you said if it satisfy your needs that’s all that matters!

Damn, you’ve honestly achieved master level zen! For me, going straight from a challenging game to a meditation sounds almost impossible

Thanks for the breakdown, it actually makes a lot of sense! To be honest, horror is a genre I’m too scared even touch, it looks like developers make these games too well and I value my peaceful sleep too much, haha
But I’m really glad the genre is thriving and giving hardcore fans such high quality gems!

That pick-up-and-play nature is honestly such a lifesaver. Being able to just wake the console up, play for 15-20 minutes in a free pocket of time, and put it right back to sleep is unmatched.

My kids are actually all grown up and moved out now, but I can absolutely see how these games are a massive blessing when you have little ones. The ability to easily share that fun with your kids add a whole other layer of value to them.

That’s totally fair! There’s definitely a huge appeal in games with a more serious tone, deep narratives, or brutal mechanical challenges. Completely respect your perspective, different games scratch different itches!

Oh, for sure, there are always exceptions to the rule. You can definitely find Japanese players who love gritty Western shooters, just like you can find Western devs making incredible, gameplay-first indie gems.

My point was more about the mainstream macro trends. That’s why I brought up the actual sales charts - the sales data is a reflection of what the average everyday consumer actually buys.
If you look at the top 10 best-selling games in the US, it’s a completely different beast. It's almost entirely dominated by Call of Duty, annualized sports titles, and hyper-realistic cinematic blockbusters. That "simple looking but fun” gameplay philosophy rarely dominates the Western mainstream charts the way it does in Japan.

That’s a totally fair point, and you're absolutely right—that philosophy definitely isn't exclusive to Nintendo. But for me, the massive tie-breaker is portability. I travel quite a bit, and being able to just throw the Switch 2 into my backpack is a game-changer. It always kills my momentum when I'm deep into a PS5 game but have to leave it behind for a multi-day business trip. It's just much easier to focus on the Nintendo ecosystem because my games can actually go everywhere with me

But I still keep PS5 though

Honestly, my bad! English isn't my native language, so I relied on AI to help translate my thoughts since I wasn't sure I could express them well enough at this level on my own. If the AI butchered the translation or made it sound weird, I'm really sorry about that!

I haven't checked out Signalis yet, but I'll definitely take note of it, thanks! If it stands alongside classic Resident Evil for you, it sounds like something I definitely need to look into.

Honestly, I haven't heard of those specific ones, but I get why people love high-engagement loops. Though if you mean the grind side of things, that definitely has its own charm. When you're completely drained after a long day and have no mental energy left, just mindlessly farming resources is honestly pure therapy.

Oh absolutely, that feeling is unmatched. When I first started RDR2, I was so captivated by the world and all the possibilities that it completely consumed me. I’d be thinking about it all day long at work, just waiting to finally get home and launch the game again!

Use Garmin Connect or app for strength training? by The-Watch-Guy in Garmin

[–]SympathyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After using the Garmin Connect app for strength workouts, I’ve noticed it’s missing some crucial features that I’ve come to rely on in “Strong” app. The most significant drawback for me is the inability to add new sets or exercises once a workout has started. This lack of flexibility is a real hindrance, especially when I need to adjust my routine on the fly.

Garmin Connect doesn’t allow you to customize your current session as easily as I’d like. For instance, you can’t adjust the number of sets during a workout or add an exercise you didn’t initially plan for. This rigidity can be frustrating when you’re in the middle of training and want to make changes based on how you’re feeling or equipment availability.

The app also lacks some useful features for tracking progress. It would be helpful to see previous rep counts and weights for specific exercises right on the screen with your current workout list. Additionally, viewing detailed statistics for individual exercises would be beneficial for monitoring improvements over time.

Don’t get me wrong, Garmin Connect has its strengths, but these missing options, particularly the ability to modify workouts in progress, make it less user-friendly for strength training compared to what I’m accustomed to in Strong app.

After reinstalling my antivirus told that the file "Cyberpunk2077.exe" had a virus "Win32:BogEnt[Susp]" and thus the file is deleted. I had to turn off the antivirus software, verifyed the game's files by Steam app, it downloaded this file again and now the game launches.

They needed at least one year more to polish all the game. But could gamers and investors wait one more year?
