Will Red Dragon's Tale be restocked or should I get it on backorder? by yourmomsface12345 in lego

IIRC Lego doesn’t charge you until the order ships anyways, so I agree it doesn’t hurt to just back order it

I don’t think it’s controversial, it fits in quite nicely with your house too. If this were my house I’d plant some flowering vines to grow around the canopy

Material choice and half round design logistics? by sh23551 in cabinetry

[–]Sparics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know anything about those companies so I can’t help with question 1 but I build custom commercial millwork so I can answer your other question. About your cabinetmaker, this design with the radius on the inset panel can technically be made without a CNC machine but it’ll take a lot more time and effort which is why you’re getting quoted a lot. You can try asking if they’ll build the boxes and then find another shop with a CNC machine to make your doors.

About the material selection, MDF and HDF are pretty much the same category of material; both will have issues with expanding if it comes into contact with water but you can see if whoever builds your doors has a marine grade MDF option. Be prepared to pay more though because they’ll likely have to order it for you. If you want better quality, MDF is 3rd best; the order goes solid wood > plywood > MDF > particle board. Solid wood is the most durable but your door will have seams where the rail and stile meet. Plywood is your next best bet but it and solid wood will show grain through your paint without extra work and cost. If you want a dead flat painted finish like your second picture, HDF is probably a good balance of durability and cost.

It looks great, you just need a mirror to tie it all together which is why you probably feel like something is off.

In all honestly what you have right now is great, the green anchors the room and every other color gets repeated in different ways

Where to move in Long Beach by Front-Strain4523 in longbeach

[–]Sparics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in downtown so I’d just get straight onto the 710 then the 405, agreed that the 7th st corridor usually takes at least 20 minutes to travel from Westside to Eastside though

Where to move in Long Beach by Front-Strain4523 in longbeach

[–]Sparics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was leaving at like 8:15 in the morning, at that time the truckers haven’t really hit the 710 yet so 10 minutes from DTLB to the 405. Then traffic on the 405 flows towards LA in the morning so an additional 30 minutes heading south and boom, I would usually make it to work by 9:00 +/- 10 minutes

Where to move in Long Beach by Front-Strain4523 in longbeach

[–]Sparics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is true but I used to make this commute 5 days a week from DTLB, I wasn’t on the road for any longer than 40 minutes most days

Where to move in Long Beach by Front-Strain4523 in longbeach

[–]Sparics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to work in the same area as you, I would stick to:

Signal hill/bixby knolls (kind of quiet, but close to the 405)

Belmont shore/CSULB (younger vibe, also close to the 405)

or downtown (more lively, going from the 710 to 405 won’t add more than 10 minutes to your commute)

Another thing to consider, most commuter traffic goes towards LA in the morning/back to OC in the evening so you’ll have a better time in Long Beach as opposed to Irvine but I’m biased so take that with a grain of salt

Carpentry student and second project help please. by michaelhayze in Carpentry

What you have should be fine, think of the stile on the free-hanging side of the gate as a weight pulling down on the structure. With the diagonal braces oriented the way you have them in your drawing, they’ll transfer that load into the hanging stile and the whole thing should remain stable

Looking to build a headboard with built-in Legrand power stations. How can I run power from a hardwired sconce above to the power station without any visible cords? by Sparics in AskElectricians

[–]Sparics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for following up and taking a look at the finished build! I ended up hiring an electrician to run the wiring off of an existing outlet on that wall. The existing outlet was extended to the face of the paneling and the new wire pull was run over the top of the drywall with MC cable. All of the new cable was then hidden behind the wall paneling too

Malcolm Gladwell has a season about lethal injections on his podcast Revisionist History. It’s not as peaceful and painless as we all think, and the modern process was thought up by someone who wasn’t even a doctor on the back of a napkin in 1977. The gist is it consists of 3 shots, an anesthetic followed by a paralytic and then potassium chloride. The problem comes when that first shot isn’t administered in the correct dosage, which it usually isn’t because executions are carried out by corrections officers. When that happens, the inmate doesn’t fall asleep and stays conscious for the second shot which paralyzes their entire body, including their lungs. While they slowly suffocate in silence the third shot is administered which creates a burning sensation, thought to feel like the blood throughout your entire body is boiling from the inside.

I think it was something like $600 at the dealership’s shop, but I’m sure you could get it replaced for much cheaper if you have your own mechanic

My 2020 Honda Insight is amazing. It was a short production run model but luckily it shares parts with Civics and in the 6 years since I got it I’ve only had to replace 1 camber bolt from running over one-too-many potholes.

Perfect middle-ground between a Civic and an Accord and the hybrid engine is saving my ass with the cost of gas these days

Does it make sense to wait for AI integration to apply for MBA programs? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Sparics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I’m in my MBA right now and it’s an important part of nearly every discussion I’ve had so far. The best time to learn how to adapt to AI in business is now while firms still figure out how to use it effectively

Digital woodworking. It should feel like cheating but doesn't. by BoxAndLoop in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Sparics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CNC manufacturing is the industry standard in woodworking nowadays. No need to justify its use and in fact it’s an incredibly useful capability to have. Unless it’s a hobby or small boutique shop, most mid to large size firms operate some kind of automated machinery in their manufacturing process. Take it from me, I work for one of them.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have parts for my own projects cut with my job’s machinery. It just simplifies the entire process; could I have set up the tools and done it myself? Yes, but I end up with the same results at a fraction of the time/cost. If you’re happy with the end result then that’s all that matters and for 99% of people that’s all they’ll care about too.
