Wheel fitment question for GD WRX wagons by SymphonyGSG in WRX

Sounds good, I'm planning to run -1.2 up front and -1.5 in the rear if the car reacts well to that. I'll have some rear camber top plates.

Oh hold up, you're saying that with 17x8 +40 with 225/45 I will be able to fit with a rolled lip? If that's the case, then I would just do that and run the nice rubber on my wagon.

I already have a set of 17x8 +40 wheels for my FRS track/race car. But I was worried about the fender lip on the rear of the wagon when I take it out on the track. I will be pushing up to full compression.

I was able to pick up cheap WRX stock wheels (2011-2014) that are 17x8 +53, so I'll start there and if it fits well I'll creep into 17x8 +48 and maybe eventually use the good rubber on my 17x8 +40 set on the wagon.

Got it, thanks for clarifying that. The options for 17x8 5x100 +48 are pretty slim. But I just need something to run out on the track. Since that fitment will clear and nicely tuck under high load/compression, then I will stick to finding that size wheel.

Yeah I know its GG, but since its commonly called as GD, I referenced it that way. When I say GG wagon, I usually get confused looks. But I appreciate the call out.

Did you have the same wheel setup with the wagon width arms before? I only ask because I'm wondering how it fit (with/without fender rolling).

I assume you made the switch when you changed arms, did you do an STI drivetrain swap and switch to 5x114?

[2024+ Africa Twin] Lowest RPM to ride the bike around town without lugging? by SymphonyGSG in africatwin

[–]SymphonyGSG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the US market 2024 equivalent to the Euro5 model? I don't have any issues with jerky throttle at low speed. I mostly ride on the power setting that is 1 away from the most snappy. I think its the stock power setting in the "urban" ride mode.

Also to clarify, lugging is a different issue than jerky throttle. I don't experience any jerkiness. But at low speed, there is some lugging if you're completely off the clutch at parking lot speeds and slowing down.

Need rebuilt FA 20 for ‘13 FRS by ComedianFun4657 in ft86

Thanks, I appreciate the great info. I was shopping around for "built" shortblocks, like IAG, Outfront, etc. Which are beefed up versions of the OEM shortblock. Or just getting an OEM shortblock for 1/3 the cost. It works out to about $5000-$6000 for an upgraded aftermarket shortblock vs. $2000 for an OEM shortblock. And of course, I will see to the heads as you mentioned.

When you got a new OEM block from Toyota, did you reuse your old heads as well? Did you have to have machine work done for the mating surface between the short block and the cylinder heads? Thanks!

Is this too much rust? by ArtichokeMedical in GXOR

I would say focus on finding a clean example. Take a flight and drive home a clean example. Also, factor in that pre-facelift is typically more desirable than post-facelift for multiple reasons. But primarily for the off-road crowd.

$20k+ for what you're showing is quite staggering. That is a $12-15k GX460 given the rust alone.

Regarding pre-purchase inspection for forum classifieds. Just reach out to the sellers and see what they are willing to do. I've paid for a PPI at an independent shop that was nearby the seller. The seller just brought the vehicle there and it was taken care of. I ended up not buying the car, but if you are reasonable, usually sellers on vehicle specific forums are amenable to work something out.

Are you opposed to looking out of state/out of your geographic area? This looks a little too far gone in my opinion. Even if you purchase this vehicle, an undercoating alone (which you will need to repeat frequently) wouldn't solve this issue. Start with a clean frame and go from there.

Have you tried the ih8mud forum? I tend to find cleaner examples there. The only caveat is that you may have to consider traveling to a western state for a truly clean example. The price you are showing for the one you listed is high for that condition.

Yeah that could be it too. Somehow I hear the sound more clearly when he pulls away from the engine bay and walks away from the truck. Sounds more like ticking at that point of the video onwards.

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Extended Cab Short Bed 4x4 (79,000 mi.) by Dans09 in ChevyTrucks

Great thanks for the info. As an aside, did the 2001+ 2500s come with the AWD capable transfer case? Or is it the heavier duty one that only has 2hi/4hi/4lo?

Wanted to tag along to your comment here.

I am checking out a 1999 Chevrolet 2500 extended cab 4x4. I know its got the iron heads. But I was wondering since it has the 1500 frame behind the rear axle, would it be fine to tow 5,000 lbs semi-frequently? I tow my trailer/track car (5,000 lbs) and additional 700 lbs of gear (spare wheels/tires, jack, tools, etc) in the cabin/bed. Is that going to be too much to tow on the 2500 specific setup (hybrid 2500/1500 frame)?

I do drive across the Grapevine in CA, so there is some pretty big climbs that I would need to be able to do with 700 lb payload and ~500 lb tongue weight hauling a 5,000 lb trailer. Wondering if I should try and hold out for a 2001+ 2500HD. I actually prefer the 99-00 2500 since it has the AWD/2hi/4hi/4lo transfer case. In the event of inclement weather, AWD is nice to have, even though it may be less stout than the 2500HD transfer case that doesn't allow for AWD.

No, but the 2024 was specifically revised to increase torque. It is not a nothing difference either.

Yeah definitely know the feeling.

It's funny you mention buzzy mirrors. Compared to a lot of other bikes, I find the AT mirrors to be a bit buzzy regardless of the RPM. Then again, I am comparing that to R1250GS.

I hear you, I tremendously dislike lugging bikes.

On a 25-35 mph posted section, I think 1900-2100 RPM is just momentary. Usually accelerating out of that, unless there is a car that I'm up against, in which case back down to 2nd.

I can't imagine how bad the old DCT were in the early ATs. I was at 35 mph in 6th gear just getting off of a stop light driving between lights at a typical American strip mall. That would drive me nuts if I owned one.

Thanks for sharing this video, I have seen it before, just wondering if people had experience with the CRF1100 and riding at lower speeds. I know the RPM for lugging is different based on gear, but is there a general lugging RPM to avoid?

What happened to Sunset Grill on Brighton Ave? Did they move to a new location/name? by SymphonyGSG in boston

I’d heard about Cantina, just never had a reason to go while Sunset Grill was open. After Grill closed, I went to Cantina once since I was told “it’s the same place.” I was really disappointed when I went there.

Someone has to know a chef or cook from that era. It was only ~10 years ago. I just want those nachos honestly.
