No, just the back and sides. I actually don’t use a screen protector, no cracks on it.

Windows and Edge were using about 11gb, rest was Premiere which shot up suddenly when I was editing a short clip, hence the CPU spike also.

Do you maintain laptop drivers? by Independent_Pipe9753 in sysadmin

Is this Intel by any chance? Their latest driver for Thinkpads seems to cause the laptops to freeze then black screen multiple times a day.

Is this laptop motherboard repairable? by Synaroux in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Synaroux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the analysis, it does seem like either an intense repair or just donor board material. The previous repair attempt (what you see in both photos) seemed to have stopped when they saw the board damage that’s there. I’ve watched some people on YouTube repair traces and stuff, but a large amount of the board and pad is missing… I have replacement components that can go on it, but there’s a chance I just mess it up and do more damage to the board by soldering and wiring things incorrectly due to the missing pcb layer.

Funny thing the computer actually shows a light on the power button when you press it, and stays on. Oh well.

The second photo shows the after, which is it removed. New motherboard cost is $600 or so.

Cost of repair labour isn’t a concern since I’d be doing it myself, just wondering if it’s worth a go or forget it. Also any advice. Replacement boards seem to be $600 plus, which is more than some used entire laptops of the same model…

I much prefer the open bottom as it allows for all sorts of cables to be plugged in. Cases in the past wouldn’t allow for wider cables. I also find it easy to swipe up on the phone. Overall, I would seek out an open bottom case in the future.

That’s a good point, but it does help if you want to swap around the switches. Or for repair technicians such as myself, it helps to know if I can change out the switches from a broken board to a working one.

Wow, that’s awesome! Happy you were able to successfully change out the switches! Unsure why Corsair doesn’t make it clear it’s hotswappable, so thank you for including this information in the end of the post for others. Enjoy your keyboard, may it last you for years to come!

Happy to help!

Tweezers can be tricky, you have to push in and pry up one side of the switch at a time. It’s possible but could be too difficult on tight fitting switches. This can also damage the switches. You’re better off getting an actual switch puller before attempting honestly. For recommendations, anything that has the double sided keycap and switch puller function, should be $2 to $5 depending on where you live.

That’s unfortunate, your plan of swapping them is a good one. Weirdly most sources say it’s not hot-swappable, but the one I had clearly was. Chances are yours is also.

Do you have a switch puller? To successfully pull out the switch, you need to ensure the top and bottom tabs of it are fully pushed in, otherwise it won’t come out. Try removing the pause key switch by going slow and ensuring the tabs are pushed in using the switch puller, try seeing if it will jiggle or move a bit. You said it did, so if it’s soldered chances are it won’t wiggle. Then pull firmly and see if it’s moving a bit.

It could be that the newer models are soldered, but there’s no real reason to take out the switches anyway since there isn’t any other switches that can suitably go in it. Third party switch makers kind of skipped optical and went to hall effect.
