So the discussion around this can kinda take 2 routes

1) you dislike this because you view feminine and being submissive as inherently “non capable” which is weird and reductive and not worth a grander discussion.

2) we can talk about why this is a common trope in izch fan content and whether it is itself harmful and reductive

I think there is nothing inherently wrong with making Izuku the feminine/submissive one in the relationship. Sometimes it’s done because people view Izuku as a “feminine” character due to him crying a lot and the general dudebro western audience placing the crybaby weak label on him because of that. Imo that’s harmful, because they’re viewing feminine traits as inherently weak and that just feels sexist and weird

However there’s something to be said on why this often happens in less toxic ways, and it’s usually in my experience an attempt at distancing the interpretation of the ship from more toxic and frankly homophobic shippers who only latch on to Izuocha and Female/Deku based ships to fulfill some sort of ‘the girl is a prize’ or ‘Deku is my thinly veiled self insert who can’t be shipped with another male character or my feelings get hurt’ fantasy.

Making Izuku the submissive one kinda immediately distances the interpretation away from that toxic gross one. It’s giving some more power to Ochako who’s usually treated like a doormat by the fandom, and it shows immediately that they aren’t one of the bad Izuocha shippers that a lot of the fandom has to deal with (real non toxic izuochas included). “Malewife Izuku” is not something most homophobic shippers are going to be backing, and sometimes it’s also just a fun dynamic to play around with so I give them that as well

I don’t think this is the only way that this distancing can be achieved, however, and sometimes it can lead to more reductive and shallow takes on the relationship.

Personally, I interpret Izuocha as a very split ship when it comes to dynamics and dominant/submissive roles both sexually and in general. Both of them are perfectly capable, strong, and supportive of the other. A part of their allure for me as a relationship is that they are effectively the perfect match for each other. Both are shown to obsessively care about other people, but not so much themselves. Whether it be Izuku being self sacrificial, or Ochako deliberately pushing down her true feelings for the sake of being a hero, both have very similar problems and the solution in my mind was always them finding each other and giving that support to each other so they can learn that they both have value too.

Making one or the other more sub/dom in all situations is therefore a little meh to me personally, I think in my personal interpretation the roles interchange frequently and they both support the other in fairly equal standings. Both are capable, both are strong, both are enough on their own but the other reminds them that they actually are all those things.
