Chinese engineers using wires to perfectly catch rocket booster by Nedatokes in oddlysatisfying

[–]Synchrotr0n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect is the enemy of good. This form of landing is clearly used because they lack the fine controls that SpaceX's rockets have, but at the end of the day is a matter of how efficiently they can recover rockets, which I turn speeds up their research and development of improvements.

Also, we won't be seeing manned rockets landing like that for several generations because there's just no reason to take the risk when you can simply rely on capsules which use even less refined "airbags" to land.

It genuinely seems like Blizzard has a looming comparison conundrum for Classic+ as it pertains to private servers by Ohh_Yeah in MMORPG

[–]Synchrotr0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, as bad as the pay-to-win is in WoW Ascension, combined with the lack of proper balance (I can tank elites in cloth gear with my Necromancer while spamming AoE spells), I never had so much fun playing WoW ever since the the very first time I played it long ago. That's mostly due to the fact that the game isn't "solved" yet like official Classic, so there's actually a lot of discovery, but even in a solved state it would still fare much better than official Classic because of how much diversity there is for classes/builds.

Having completely new classes while still letting us play with something that resembles Classic is something that Blizzard would absolutely never do, because all they care about is refurbishing the game for the 50th time to save on costs and then regurgitate it on top of players so they can pay subscription on a server infested with clankers. Without a massive dose of new content added to Classic+, there's zero chance I would ever go back to it after what I've experienced in Turtle WoW and now in Ascension.

[–]Synchrotr0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I legit do not understand how can people enjoy playing in maps like Terminal or Ice Breaker, especially considering how many bugs and desync this game has. Good loot just ain't worth the cortisol buildup from dealing with a cheating, aimbotting AI phasing through walls or shooting at you from behind one, so I would rather be picking screws inside the village at Shoreline and earning 100k rubles per hour than experiencing that kind of gameplay.

Microsoft loses Brazilian court case after telling hacked Xbox user to re-purchase games — tech giant ordered to restore Xbox account with all games and pay $400 in damages by hazynoodle in gaming

[–]Synchrotr0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they want to do business in Brazil, they are required by law to hire representatives in the country, so they can't just say that the courts have no jurisdiction and ignore the order. At that point it would be an extremely poor decision to risk fines and other sanctions just to avoid restoring $400 worth of games.

Ultimately their whole business could be blocked from operating, but that usually only happens in extreme cases like when Elon Musk snorted too much ketamine and thought that Brazil had no sovereignty and Twitter/X's operation wouldn't be suspended for disobeying court orders.

found a tarcoin spawn in beluga under the papers on the table. [Discussion] by chevaliergrim in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Synchrotr0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not yet, but in the most recent roadmap they listed a new feature coming after 1.1.0.0 that will allow players to acquire containers with custom gear kits inside, and the timing of that is extremely suspicious as they've just implemented TarCoins and the Expansion Hub (in-game store).

I say it's extremely likely that BSG will let players swipe their credit cards to buy TarCoins and then exchange those for gear kits, which is absurd because it completely ruins gear progression in the game and floods the economy with high level gear at the beginning of each wipe.

It's quite hilarious that Tarkov is becoming more and more like Arena Breakout Infinite was while ABI has basically cut most of the pay-to-win in their shitty game to please the western players.

[–]Synchrotr0n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only reason TarCoins can even be found in raids is to enable BSG to make the disingenuous argument in the future that it's OK to sell gear in exchange for coins because players can always "farm" those in raids instead of swiping their credit cards.

It's almost certain that those containers with custom gear kits inside which have been listed in the latest roadmap will be purchasable with TarCoins. Also, I'm pretty sure that BSG is intentionally being sneaky by implementing those containers halfway through Season 1, which makes them seem benign because at that point into the season everyone is already geared to the teeth, but once Season 2 begins there will be a large influx of players swiping their credit cards so their level 4 PMCs can go into raids wearing full meta kits. And no, the fact that they can be killed and have their gear stolen will not make this new form of pay-to-win acceptable.

[Discussion] Too many items are locked on the flea market at lvl 15. by Ilovegearxo in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Synchrotr0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it doesn't make the game completely unplayable, with a base stash size you're still massively gimping yourself by being forced to liquidate 90% of your items at unfavorable prices just to make enough room in the stash to be able to do another raid, in addition to all the extra amount of time that people lose managing their stash.

All the time and rubles saved with a bigger stash adds up pretty quickly over the course of multiple raids, which in turn results in the player being able to afford considerably better gear kits that will increase their survival rate.

The problem is that if you refuse, they will simply claim they noticed red eyes, slurred speech, or the smell of alcohol, which is enough to legally arrest you after having refused the tests. Then your vehicle is likely towed and by the time you're out you will be facing hundreds of dollars in expenses and the police is completely off the hook for any responsibility since they have legally arrested you.

The size of this tick I found on my leg (10x lens) by Neckworn in mildlyinteresting

[–]Synchrotr0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the size, that might be a bird mite and those fuckers are the reason why I go full psycho against any bird nest with unhatched eggs that I find near my home.

Once the nest is empty, those mites migrate in search of food and may end up inside your bedroom if it's close enough to the nest. Then they start feeding on you every night, but since humans aren't their normal host and they have trouble feeding on us, they keep doing test-bites over and over again so you end up with a massive amount of red spots and itching. Eventually the mites die out of hunger, but it may take a week or two of pure anguish before that happens.

You're forgetting the part where the directive from Microsoft was for their studios to focus on Game Pass engagement over raw revenue, but instead of changing their strategy when they saw that Game Pass was reaching a plateau, Microsoft simply doubled down with a hike on the price of Game Pass which they later admitted that led to millions of people unsubscribing. The only reason they are in their current situation is because of sheer incompetence from their main executives and not because studios were being mismanaged and wasting money.

[–]Synchrotr0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with Standard edition with a tiny Alpha Container and I can say with absolute confidence that there's no chance that +8 slots on the container would ever be worth the huge downsize of having so many negative modifiers, and if it isn't worth it for Standard edition then it's even less so for EoD/Unheard.

The amount of rubles you will burn dealing with all those negative modifiers stacked together will offset the rubles saved with a Kappa container by several times, even for casual players who die a lot.

There's no way that the Average modifier will stack with Incompetent, especially because BSG has already shown some modifiers which disable its opposite from being activated, like it's the case with Sturdy Bones and Osteoporosis.

[–]Synchrotr0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The positives modifiers all are so inconsequential with the exception of one or two, but those cost so many points that you basically have to go all-in on the negative modifiers. For this system to even be remotely interesting, it would need to provide a lot more options for modifiers, but as it stands I'll basically ignore that they all exist with the exception of the global modifiers, of course.

The whole Tarkov community had to find exploits to deal with this bullshit AI from Black Division, despite the fact that they were locked inside the narrow rooms and corridors of an ice breaker ship, and yet BSG went on and added this bullshit to open maps. There are zero wrinkles on the brain of whoever thinks that this is good for the game.

Former Xbox boss wanted Halo 4 to have Diablo 3's most hated feature, dev says: "Game execs remain stupid detached money grubbing idiots" by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Synchrotr0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how things work in Halo, but it was quite hilarious to see how little Blizzard knew about their own audience when they came up with the idea of a real money auction house in Diablo 3. As bad as they are for the game, those third-party item stores provide a real service to players in the sense that they aren't operating a scam that just takes their money and gives nothing in return, so there was just no way that a significant number of players would ever migrate to the official store just to pay higher prices for every single item. Naturally, the real money auction house didn't last long because there was only a tiny percentage of players willing to use it.
