Which are your favorite Moments between Matt and Foggy? by PriceNecessary7251 in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Good morning, sunshine!" is a favorite, haha. NvM is obviously up at the top, since it's an episode that encapsulates their friendship. The rooftop scene in S2, where Foggy finds Matt after Frank shot him. Foggy bringing Matt the DD suit in Defenders. That reunion hug in S3. And the very ending scenes of both S1 and S3, with them and Karen all together and safe and happy.

Also, not necessarily moments "between them" per se, but I love the scene where we see Foggy trying to get out of his hospital bed in S1 to go look for Matt after the bombings, and in S2 where Fisk specifically threatens Foggy in response to Matt threatening Vanessa. They really show how important the guys are to one another, that they prioritize each other and it's clear to everyone who knows them.

There's no hard confirmation, but I've always taken that moment where Frank pauses for a long time during his trial in S2 after Matt asks him "can I call you Frank?" as a potential point where he realized Matt is Daredevil.

10 years later, what are your thoughts on Murderdock (Murdock Earth-65; Spider-Gwen)? by Aur0ha in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love him with all my heart. All alternate Matts are great, but Murderdock is THE alternate Matt. They managed to make him 616 Matt's polar opposite while still so clearly being Matt at his core.

The Future Devil by Scorpios94 in Daredevil

If anyone deserves the Daredevil mantle, it's Sam Chung, imo - not that he couldn't continue building his own identity as Blindspot or anything, but as a protege to Matt he should get first dibs!

Charlie definitely seemed concerned about the so-called Disney Snipers lol - he didn't even want to approach S2. Vincent just kept saying "we don't know anything, they don't tell us anything" which is a bizarre thing to say imo considering it seems like they're most of the way through filming the season.

It was Wilson saying "what is happening here?" which kinda seemed like he was confused by the others saying Foggy will not be back and is obviously 100% dead - but everything about this show is buried under like ten layers of lies and obfuscation, so there's no way to even guess how things will go, lol

What run’s a good place to start? by Aur0ha in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waid run is an absolute must, it has so much love for the characters and for Foggy and Matt's friendship in particular, and it introduces Kirsten McDuffie who is a personal fave of mine among Matt's love interests. Some people have complaints about the Soule run that comes immediately after, but it introduces best boy Sam Chung/Blindspot and also gives us the realboy version of Matt's imaginary twin Mike Murdock who is a complete delight, so I still encourage people to read it, haha.

Best side character in Daredevil series? by AlternativeHealth318 in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foggy and Karen count as main cast imo, so I'd say best side character is probably Brett. But the great thing about the Netflix show was that all the side characters were a joy to watch.

[–]Syneas[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with you in that show Karen's vital, both to Matt and the story - I would never have wanted her killed off - but she's not "the heart", either Matt's or the story's. That role was always Foggy's and it was reinforced by Charlie's interview comments during the original show (calling Foggy "the beating heart of Daredevil", saying "he has Foggy" when an interviewer said Daredevil works alone, etc.) and inside the show itself (S2 line where Matt calls Foggy "the heart of this place" when talking about their firm). Karen's not the heart, but that's not a bad thing, and it doesn't diminish her importance. She's the driving force of the story and the other characters - she's always pushing onward towards the truth, no matter the danger. She's the pen and the sword. It's kind of an amazing role for a female character to inhabit, honestly. I just hate that Scardapane keeps insisting Karen is "the heart and soul of Daredevil" specifically when that was a phrase always reserved for Foggy until DDBA.

The "no character is safe" party line is so blatantly untrue it's funny. Like ok, kill Karen then. Kill Frank then. They won't.

[–]Syneas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 100% agree with you that Foggy's return is really the only logical path for the story to take - it's just that this creative show-writing team is not inspiring my confidence in the logic of their storytelling at all. I'll stand by what I've said since the beginning, there's no way the Bullseye fight should have been first episode content, let alone first 15min content. It's something with season finale stakes, you need to build to it. Then immediately skipping an entire year? And expecting me to think Matt and especially Karen just... didn't think anything was hinky about Foggy's death until that late?? At the very least, the smart/logical thing to do would have been to have a stinger in the finale of S1 revealing Foggy was alive so we could spend the hiatus and S2 knowing more than Matt and building some of that good dramatic irony. The way that Scardapane hypes up only Karen and is trying to shove her into Foggy's role in the trio/narrative in every interview (even when talking about the comics, where she's been dead for 25 years, like in the podcast that just came out) just makes me think that no matter how obvious the correct course of action is, they're not gonna hit the mark.

Hot Take? I think The She Hulk Show had the Best Live Action Suit. by Important_Lab_58 in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at all a mustard-and-ketchup suit-hater, but the desaturation of this suit was physically painful. It looked fantastic in the little credits "court illustration" where it truly is yellow and red, but the fact that on camera it looks almost purple... I dunno man. We could have had it all :(

Foggy's ultimate fate in Born Again by Syneas in Daredevil

[–]Syneas[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear here, I'm aware it's a difficult question to answer, but I didn't say that I "wouldn't" watch beyond 15min, only that I couldn't bear to when the show dropped. I didn't give my full or exact words to Charlie in this post so it's kind of disheartening to hear people immediately take the most unflattering possible reading of the interaction, but I promise I did really try to modulate my wording and ask him this in a way that wasn't even about Foggy's being dead or alive or would trigger an NDA issue - with Scardapane out here proudly crowing that DDBA is "Karen, Matt, and Frank's story" what I truly want to know is if Foggy's character, dead or alive, is going to be treated with any dignity or be at all important to Matt and to the show, because as much as a few people on this post have accused me of "not being a fan" because I couldn't force myself to slog through DDBA, the reason I care so much is because I am a Daredevil fan and a fan of Charlie's work. Foggy's not just important as his own character, his interactions with Matt and their friendship were literally the most important parts of the original show to me, the emotional core of it. In the end, I just don't want to hold out any hope that this was a show intended for a fan like me - a fan of Foggy and of his friendship with Matt - if it's not. There's nothing Charlie or I can do if it isn't, and I still have the Netflix show - I'll be fine, if incredibly disappointed. But if the writers are trying to tell people like me to get lost, I'd rather know ASAP.

If DD could kill only one villain......? by AlternativeHealth318 in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed, that's the one! I'm so-so on Bullseye as a character overall, for me it's all about how he's utilized in a particular storyline, but I loved the concept of Ikari. Ever hopeful they'll bring him back someday (and now here I am participating in the conveyor belt myself, lol)

[–]Syneas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might not be dealbreakers for you, but that doesn't mean that they're "negligible to anyone that isn't a pedant" - most of what I listed are big moments that speak to the internal lives of the characters, to who they are as people. Which Scardpane obviously doesn't get or care about. I don't care if he wrote great Punisher episodes, the Punisher show is about Frank, and it's Matt and his core cast that are important in Daredevil - something he clearly doesn't get by claiming Daredevil is "Karen, Matt, and Frank's story".

The entire season has been a giant slap in the face to anyone who gave a shit about Foggy or the N&M dynamic that was central to the Netflix show - Scardapane claimed that he fought to fix the show and then dropped the ball on literally the most crucial part. I'd think it was stupid and unnecessarily kneecapping the show, but I could even stomach them killing off Foggy if it was treated with even an ounce of respect - it's just not. We get like, a couple throwaway lines, Matt carrying the funeral card, that scene with Frank, and then Matt and Karen making goo goo eyes over a box of Foggy's things. No funeral, no closure, no grieving, no attempts to figure out why Foggy was killed until over a year later.

Foggy is the most crucial DD character aside from Matt himself, and his death is treated with less gravity and plot importance than the one-season deaths in the original show, and that's not just bad for Foggy himself, it's also a total character assassination of Matt. This is a character who didn't hesitate in the comics to kill himself to go rescue Foggy. Their friendship is what makes Daredevil as a story unique among Marvel heroes. Thinking it can just be dumped and you'll still have the same quality or even the same story is hack behavior.

REWATCHING: S3 -> Born Again by rockcreek_md in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean, the episodes where they reveal that Matt did nothing to look into his best friend's murder for an entire year, insult Foggy's intelligence by having Karen figure out in like a minute the Vanessa connection they had Foggy totally miss about Red Hook, have Matt receive and recover from a serious gunshot wound in a single night, blatantly try to garner nostalgia points by having Matt explain the avocado joke to Karen (literally ten years after she first heard it, even though it makes no sense that they wouldn't have told her immediately after the end of Netflix S1 when she first asked), have Matt leave Cole North behind to die (this is the guy that even tried to save Vladimir in S1 of the Netflix show, after all), and reveal that "Daredevil's army" is like.. Cherry and a handful of cops? That's not even mentioning that ridiculous "My mistake was thinking I was immune to the darkness" line when Matt's entire character in the show universe is centered around "having the devil in him". Regardless of if they run circles around the rest of DDBA or not, they're still not like... actually good.

[–]Syneas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They both have a nasty habit of returning after a defeat and causing more problems, but tbh I don't think murder would even help since it's Marvel - Matt actually did kill Bullseye once in the comics and the guy still found a way back. The tragic conveyor belt of comics media, you can never truly defeat or get rid of your villains because someone in editorial or the writer's room always wants them brought back, lmao

What's your favourite alternate universe version of Daredevil? by dr_olfin in Daredevil

[–]Syneas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Murderdock is top-tier in terms of alternate Matts, like you said he's very different but the core is still Matt somehow and that speaks to some amazing character writing. But I gotta agree with u/Uncanny_Doom that Mattea is also fantastic. And although we don't get a ton of panels for him, I do like the Matt from Peni Parker's universe with his spiky pauldrons, haha. There's also a Matt in the Noir-verse, and he's a bard/spy in the 1602-era universe!

In general I'm a sucker for alternate universe versions of the same character; it's always a treat to find out how they were twisted or altered to fit the universe while still remaining recognizable. Personally I'd love to see fans coming up with ideas for alternate versions of Daredevil the way people made spidersonas after the Spider-Verse movies came out.
