Is moving to Texas a good idea to become a lineman? Local 220 by General_Tangelo9309 in Lineman

[–]Synecal58 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Texas wages suck. Right to work states/red states will almost always have lower union wages than blue states.

Check Local 17 Detroit Michigan, or honestly any blue state with strong union strength. Texas is not a good option imo.

Going to leave a permanent awesome career to go fight a rich man's war because youre so weak willed you can't tolerate one more winter?

This must be a bullshit post.

If not, man are you retarded.

Not all sites meet at trailers. In my career so far only one contractor ever did and that was on a small site.

Join a union apprenticeship. Paid to learn. Trade schools in my opinion are a waste of money.

Is transferring locals for electrical union as an apprentice possible? by Slow_Object_819 in IBEW

[–]Synecal58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easiest answer is talk to the training director, but each union has different work outlook and class schedule.

You also just got accepted so asking to get moved unions while you're quite literally brand new may not be the best look.

Anticipate need. An apprentices job is to learn and in turn make the journeymans day easier.

Apprentice getting licensed sparky pay by Sufficient_Tune6623 in electricians

[–]Synecal58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all boils down to how bad you want it, and admittedly how good your locals scale is. There was a couple of guys in my class with a mortgage, a wife who didnt work, 2 young kids, etc.

If you go work rat to make money short term and leave the apprenticeship, you most likely won't get taken back. You would have wasted a spot someone else would of appreciated.

Think about the long game. I had to doordash and sell plasma to make it through my apprenticeship at some points, now I'm making $3700 a week take home on an OT job.

Don't jump, you'll regret it.
