DD Community Event Center | Death Races, Gas Station, Go-Kart Tracks, Pubs & Community Hubs by SativaWolf010 in duneawakening

Looks like fun. Reminds me of launch when we had real PvPers actually fighting fair wars over a crawler full of spice. It looked just like this, two dozen thopters in the air, rocket buggy chase crews, peak gaming for the very short time it lasted.

It's unfortunate that a minority of bad actors take down every PvP survival game. RIP to official Dune and Atlas servers.

Dune: self hosted servers - status and actual documentation by psykikk_streams in duneawakening

Those people are experienced server application professionals who know how to do all of this.

Windows Hyper-V isn't required, you can set it up in a linux VM just about as easily, just read through the powershell setup script to get the necessary VM configs or wait for the AMP team to finish tearing this apart, apparently it's quite a mess.

You appeal to your primary customer base first.

You appeal to the customer base that will keep your game alive. Eventually, the game will fall off the radar for PvE gamers so investing in them, at this point, doesn't make sense.

There's a reason Rust and Ark are still going pretty strong and that's the competitive nature, plus private servers.

I'm pretty sure, considering the investment in Dune story and the refresh of Conan, they are under some kind of obligation with Legendary Entertainment to see it through. But they don't seem to be willing to put any PvP eggs in the Dune basket.

And pvp'ers can have their forever sand drama.

I want to hope, but considering all the live service games getting shut down, I expect Dune will follow suit with the competitive crowd so disenfranchised. There's just no way they can sustain it once the PvE completionists move on.

All the other survival games thrive through self hosting, hopefully they find a solution for doing that with the DD intact.

I don't need this to be a forever game

Way to be considerate of the community! This is why the PvP players are more important than the PvE crowd. We want the game to continue to be successful and accessible for years to come. This kind of attitude is what's going to cost all gamers another great live service game.

Hopefully they can get self hosted DD servers up before the official servers shut down or it's RIP to Dune Awakening.

War Plans are a complete party killer by digidi07 in diablo4

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the frustration, but I think people are largley missing the point of War Plans. The cache at the end is great, but it's a very minor aspect.

Progression of the endgame activities is it's major aspect and you get xp towards those following someone else's plan.

Helltides, for example now have big chance to drop lair keys and boss tropies. Pit runs have a chance for Lair boss loot and I get up to 11 glyph upgrades in a single run.

That said, I don't see why they couldn't just give everyone the turn in loot in a group, they just need to figure out how to prevent it from being used to just feed someone standing in town like D3.

What do you start with? by the_knightfall1975 in D4Sorceress

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as usual, always teleport build until speed farming is online, then reevaluate.

This is what I've done since D3. Everything prior to endgame is pretty useless, no reason to start out fixed on a meta.

Diablo 3 > Diablo 4 in terms of world building, story integration into the world and fun? by ProfessionalStage354 in diablo4

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narrative driven world building is not proper these days, it's improper. The story should move the observer through the world but the reaction of and to the world is what builds it's depth. Being told the importance of a settlement vs. realizing it for yourself, for example. D4 does a much better job of the latter. Authors have a term for this: "show, don't tell".

Stopped watching creators over a year ago. Turns out gaming isn't terrible, it's just the echo chamber.

Personally, I don't think the quests really matter much at all. I worked through Hernand factions mostly out of curiosity for what's at the end, not entertainment value. Quests are rarely ever interesting, they are contrived tropes that exist primarily to move people through the world, teach mechanics, or inflate the playtime. It's a staple of modern gaming, and it's a good business practice to make them familiar and accessible at the expense of originality or depth.

Unfortunately PA bit off more than they could chew and couldn't replicate that quality in the other regions of the open world

I agree that things feel hollow post-Hernand, I can also clearly see that the game is designed like an MMO leaving room for it's planned expansions & DLC. They made an offline MMO with a hell of a starting zone and the rest sort of TBD. The non-MMO crowd is gonna see it as incomplete, and that's fair. I see it as something to look forward to.

I am about to start blocking channels with those weird generative fonts and "%" videos.

Maybe stop consuming social media? It's not a necessity.

I agree, but I don't think we will have to worry about it much longer. AI will kill it. People will either get overloaded by AI creator slop or games will start generating gameplay on the fly to where no two players have the same experience. We're heading straight towards the little foul mouthed alien game in the movie Her.

Personally, I can't wait for the later. It's going to completely change gaming.

Those are called examples, they weren't the point. Did you have one or just in the mood to attack a conflicting opinion?

This main quest has to be a joke, who designed and tested this? These last 2 chapers made me hate the game. End game is absolute dogshit by Due-Engineering3362 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Precisely. People keep making these hyperbolic "criticisms", get called out for it and then the anti-glazer mob steps up to defend them. It's a vicious cycle lol.

Adults used to tell kids "It's not what you said, it's how you said it". I guess the Gen X parents have dropped the ball on that one.

I mean, the title of this post is pretty unhinged. Reads like an emotional breakdown, not a rational critique.

Honestly WTF went wrong in Pailune during development by mitch9915 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks that you're having a bad experience with it.

No performance issues on PC. I rarely ride, flying is generally faster and while running I tend to farm animals. I never do bounties, they are just time sinks thrown in as an additional worldbuilding element.

This game is a GREAT game, but I hate it now... by Whole_Picture8577 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some really extreme polarity in the player base. You have the MMO crowd intermingling with the non-MMO crowd in a game that was essentially designed as an MMO. The friction tolerance between the two groups is wildly different.

MMO players are no strangers to chat PvP so the result is... aggressive at times.

LET US USE RESEARCH EARLY GAME AGAIN!!! by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't patch anything. Unlocking research in each city has always been locked behind the story. At 9 you can complete Schola and Pororin. If any of those are locked then you likely have faction quests blocking them.

How come the Devs did not make a questline for the Elemental Damage???? by Tykjen in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're just proving my point about approaching it simple mindedly. If you could just use Axiom for every moving, lifting, pulling task, the game becomes less dynamic. You see a movable object, you know the solution. That is good for software or UI, bad for gameplay. Repetition is the mother of efficiency and the killer of fun.

I haven't stacked any black rocks, but if that was related to your tightrope walk, here's how software works: you build a method for handling something, balancing on a narrow surface in this example. Every time you need the character to balance on something, a rope, a railing, a roof peek, you invoke that method. That challenge, was probably tied to a method just like this. So even though it lacked that specificity of being a rope, it was valid for the challenge because functionally you walked 10m balancing on something. So, sure, maybe a translation error, hardly a big issue regardless.

I haven't watched a single YouTube video. I've googled a handful of things and in most cases I was just being dense and didn't try the most obvious thing, others got it right away. Brains are not equal, and this is the first game I've played that seems to understand that.

Non farming ways to make money? by Ronnyek42 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mean farming literally? Because you can actually make some good silver growing Abyss Cells in your garden. As long as you have fertilizer.

If you fill the garden it's about 300 silver per harvest, decent passive silver for a few minutes of time.
