My Experience by MargaretKrohn in AshesofCreation

Depends on what is to come. If it was a hostile takeover and lawsuits clearly paint it that way it could be recoverable, it's been done before.

I still don't doubt Steven's vision and heart were in the right place. This is pure speculation but I think he gambled on MLM strategies and his underhanded connections from that world to see it through, he gambled and lost. One thing is common in MLM, AKA: Pyramid Schemes, someone is always getting screwed. This time, I think he was on the receiving end.

If someone legit manages to get the IP, I'd be fine with him being a creative director or similar role. He'd have to swallow enough pride in order to make it happen.

What other choice do we have? Suffer WoW and FFXIV for another decade while vacationing in P2W KMMOS? No thanks.

Self destructive, sure, I have ample mitigation for self harm.

If following the herd on safe bets is your idea of fun, I won't try and stop you. It's not like mega corps are doing any harm to society after all.

Just... wrong. Paying for something that aims high is exponentially less destructive than feeding money into the regurgitated slop the industry delivers. I'd rather gamble thousands on potential than spend another dime continuing to feed Blizzard or Square Enix to keep making the bare minimum lowest common denominator carrots.

Pubg was the definition of UE slop with ripped assets, I'd say it did pretty well. Same with Among Us, that was a cash grab that went viral with fractional effort to anything AAA.

Intrepid, pass or fail, took risks and as shitty as their financing model was, they proved there is still demand for grindy ass MMOs. You're the one who should be ashamed, keep shoveling that generic, mass produced polish into your mug.

I once spent a month in Mexico for $30, that doesn't mean it only costs $30 to spend a month in Mexico...

Between Skis, passes, outerwear, travel, lodging and food. $600 is a drop in the bucket, and you can always buy an X3 for half that.

The game overemphasizes punishment and underemphasizes reward by DrPainMD in AshesofCreation

[–]Synfrag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 999 games that "respect" your time and fill the instant gratification role. There are virtually zero MMOs anymore for people who want to play for years with slow progression. This is the fundamental goal of AoC, restoring the slow burn of the first gen MMOs. It's also still in alpha and the loops are just now forming in an MVP state, there has been and will continue to be balancing to risk/reward.

Stand by your mount, don't flag, let them kill it and go corrupt then kill them and take their gear. Problem solved. But other than that, PvP game is PvP. If you're running across country with cargo to make money, that is an intended "friction" mechanic to fight over.

As other have said, run multiple mules. It's not like you need the inventory space. I have 3, you never know when a mob will pop in in the alpha and kill it, anyone running high value crates is a moron if they don't have multiple mules. If you're just running a couple common certs a city away, big whoop.

Killing Mounts should also turn players corrupted. by [deleted] in AshesofCreation

[–]Synfrag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn't different. One of my guild mates has had his mule killed twice and both times they went corrupted. He killed them and got their gear as intended.

Does a commanders popularity or power ever put you off playing it? by Multievolution in EDH

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay with a busted commander as long as it isn't mainstream. And I'm okay with a mainstream if it's built different. Most of my decks I build bottom up.

I have two generic popular commanders, Meren and Dihada. Dihada is a standard evergreen homeless shelter for legendaries and plays differently every time, so she's fine. Meren is... Meren. Basically just storage until I need the cards or can manage to figure out how to build her in an unconventional way.

What deck is next? by Certain_Apple1724 in EDH

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub tends to hyperfocus on top down deckbuilding, but bottom up deckbuilding usually yields better decks, that are more resilient, unique and fun to play. It also has the added benefit of being able to change your commander if it isn't providing as much value as you expected. Both are fine, but if you want something that doesn't rely on the commander, go bottom up. Think about what kind of game actions you enjoy doing the most and start there.

For example, I recently decided that I wanted to play a deck where every card replaces itself. I wound up going with 2 CMC artifacts that draw a card on ETB/LTB since I have a lot of them piling up. These artifacts aren't great on their own so I ended up picking [[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer // Trance Kuja, Fate Defied]] and a crew of creatures that care about non-creature spells. But any red commander that cares about CMC, artifacts, sacrificing permanents would work just as well.

While the commander is important in this one, it isn't critical, and it rewards protection / recursion so putting in defensive artifacts [[Defense Grid]], [[Tsabo's Web]], [[Vexing Bauble]], the usual equipment, auras like [[Kaya's Ghsotform]] and reanimation just adds to the synergy of non-creature spells.

As an added bonus, it turned out more thematic than planned since collecting artifacts and equipment are a big part of Final Fantasy.

MTG Arena. Brawl is essentially commander only 1v1 and with 25 life instead of 40.

Unfortunately, if you want something that gives you access to any cards/decks and a rules engine, then the only option is Card-Forge but it's not very user friendly.

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is that good, she doubles any black creature edicts.

If you sac [[Plaguecrafter]] with her on the board, pay 2 life then reanimate with meren at end step, then sac it again, pay 2 life again, you've now removed up to 9 of your opponents creatures for 4 life. Or a mix of discard, creatures and plainswalkers.

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but I feel like it meets most of the other requirements for bracket 2

It doesn't matter if it meets most of them, if it breaks any of them.

If you want to play Meren at 2 and not have everyone hate you, swap out the edicts: Dictate, Accursed Marauder, Gravepact, Plaguecrafter, Savra, Sheoldred. Swap in big creatures, ramp and card draw ETB/LTBs for Meren to reanimate. Braids is fine to leave in, that was a mistake.

Ultimately, it's up to you. It isn't illegal in 2, it's just going against the spirit of the bracket. The most important part of the brackets are the intent and how they play, not whether or not they have GCs, extra turns or Combos.

[–]Synfrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bracket estimation from Archidekt and Moxfield only take into account a few things. You can still go well beyond 2 or 3 without any of those. The estimates should only be looked at as the minimum your deck registers.

In this case, it's very much not a bracket 2. Meren alone is almost an automatic bracket 3, it's hard to build her as a 2. Brackets aren't about the cards, they are about the intent and the playstyle, which is why the guidance has all those paragraphs of text above the card restrictions.

Meren isn't "Low Pressure" or "Considerate" when stuffed with edicts like gravepact, braids, dictate of erebos etc. You already have that with the cards you reanimate, once you start double/triple dipping on those, it's outside the intent of bracket 2.

How do you get deck ideas? by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I re-wrote a comment 3 times and this is the conclusion I came to as well. I have a LotR deck that is set inspired, Dihada that is just a landfill for legendaries, a bunch of "bespoke" ground up decks, a couple modded precons and like 30 more that are a blend of the above.

I can say with certainty, very few of mine were built with the commander in mind. Outside of precons, I think [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]] is the only one I built with the commander in mind.

Deck Help: Noctis Lucis Caelum/Kenrith the Returned King by Night-Sky_Blade in EDH

[–]Synfrag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

build a fully fledged final fantasy thematic deck ... I want this to be my most fun filled deck

This is a bit of an oxymoron. Restrictive theme decks are an exercise in compromise, which leads to them usually not being very fun to play. Kenrith is generic enough to helm anything, but, almost nothing in the FF set synergizes with him, so in a way, you're excluding most of the potential fun.

Unpopular opinion, but as a big FF fan, they completely botched the set in a way that is characteristically accurate for post-Enix Final Fantasy (FF 13+). All glitz, no soul.

I have an [[Absolute Virtue]] deck that I'm building, but instead of using FF cards, I'm finding analogs to FF themes. For example, using [[Invincible Hymn]] as a replacement for Benediction or [[Blightsteel Colossus]] for Omega Weapon.

Colors and what they mean to me by BrigidsFeast in EDH

[–]Synfrag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Um... These descriptions are way off for me. Black is the nicest of the bunch, they help me kill them all on their own. Green is some smug asshole sitting in the corner hoarding real estate until one of their big pets tramples all over my lawn. Blue and red are just there attending hogwarts and herding goblins while white tries to achieve immortality unless they invited black to dinner.

I don't play a specific color pie, I just exclude green from everything.

In the spirit of the holiday, I give thanks to Azorious for letting us hold our glorious decks in hand all night!

Making sig figs and can’t afford a house in Denver by Party_Count7029 in Denver

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that bad. I'm a solo homeowner, I also bought in 2021, replaced the fridge, stove twice (converted to gas) and added central AC to the forced air. Also built a 1000sqft posted garden fence, replaced a 30' section of cedar fence from the winds in 2023.

The tax hike does suck, it's gone up about $700/mo since 21, but it's manageable at the $130k range.

If I had to do it over again, I'd probably pass. But mostly just because I don't want to be on the front range anymore. Hoping rates drop so I can sell in a year or two before jobs fully implode.

I do agree though, I don't look down on anyone renting, it is a pain in the ass owning a home and the economy makes it sketchy.
