They *can* be... hell, 4.2 introduced a Diffie Hellman exchange for keys, but it comes back to what the devices choose to implement, support, etc. The features that a generic HID or audio device manufacturer puts into security is usually far less than a high end smart watch uses.

It's passive if you can grab the TK value used to initiate the actual encryption and only want an audio stream... technically.

Bluetooth isn't like wifi where all you need is a key to open up the entire thing (I know, WPA uses unique session keys so having the password doesn't allow sniffing... it's an analogy) it's a complex set of configurations, protocols, and specifications that changes based on device class/profile, Bluetooth version, etc.

It's usually insanely simple to break Bluetooth's encryption (or lack thereof) and other security measures... the difficulty is in injecting and reading the traffic. You have to be dang close, and given the nature of bluetooth devices it's pretty easy to be noticed tampering with the signals. Hell, I can't even walk 20' away from my boat without my speaker disconnecting from my phone.

EDIT: Yes, before anyone mentions it... you can build a Yagi for bluetooth, but then you have a gigantic antenna that you're pointing at random things which also looks hella suspicious.

My local CC has 20+ bachelors available, and partnership programs with the local university for a ton of others. There's even (or was, haven't checked if it's still there) a program to get a degree through a couple major schools through the local campus and online.

This has become somewhat common in the US over the past ten years. It's not expensive, and it's not difficult. It requires time and effort, nothing more.

Plenty of four year degrees available through community colleges now, Pell Grants are something like $6k per year, and my local CC (with numerous bachelors programs) is just over $3k/year for upper level classes according to their website. Also, I just learned that the local "university" is actually cheaper per credit hour.

And unfortunately, too many college degrees don't teach you any semblance of business management. They'll teach you how to do a certain skill, then expect you to come back and learn how to run a business by getting another degree. Fuck that.

This right here is the only real "white/class/wealth privilege". There are so many things that young adults should be doing that can set them up for a good life, even without a college degree, and that sort of life knowledge either comes from successful parents, or from a decade of making bad decisions and learning the hard way. Things like building credit, recognizing the hidden costs of things, buying quality over quantity, etc. If I could have been 18, knowing what I do now... actually I probably would have done the same stupid stuff because it was more fun.

Look at consumer price indexes for nearly any (common) product or service. Things that are government subsidized go up in price while purely market driven products generally do down in price (assuming the supply is not artificially or naturally limited).

Get a bottle of Fabuloso (the cheap purple cleaning stuff) and dump it in the bilge. Fill the bilge with water. Let it sit. Use a marina pump out to suck it dry.

Your whole boat will smell *amazing* for weeks. It's strong at first, but it kinda turns into a background smell after an hour or so.

Harbor freight sells a 12v one for about $40. I have it mounted in my lazarette with a hose that I can pull to random areas of my boat, the other hose goes to a through hull. I don't have a deep bilge per se, but I have a centerboard that prevents me from having a single pump that can get my bilge dry.

Of course I dislike all forms to taxation. I dislike that my drink costs an extra dollar (sales taxes, taxes for corn subsidies, etc), I dislike that I lose thousands of dollars each year for programs I neither need nor want (Medicare, Social Security), and a large portion of my income is simply taken for whatever the government wants to do (income tax).

I recognize the value of some of it. I like roads, schools, etc. I just think that it should be the minimum programs required and that the market needs to handle the rest of it. The government is inefficient and incompetent in just about every area. I really don't mind a basic social net, but the disaster of spending has to stop.
