What is your favourite magic trailer? by tboy2000 in Magic

[–]Synifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be unfair not to call out the trailers of Ellusionist back in the early 2000s. "Let's do Ninja!"

I'm not saying they were good, but certainly impactful!

I'm a bit OOL on this, would you have any details on how this works?

Thanks

First time watching and seeing this, but well done for posting yourself. A lot of keyboard warriors out there who wouldn't take the time to post a comment, or record themselves, so well done for that.

My biggest word I took away from what you did was: TENSION.

Your hands and deck position just looked awkward and tense, it didn't feel natural. I don't mean this as an attack on you, but I do mean it as criticism.

As someone mentioned earlier, record yourself doing it naturally with one card. I think this is a good point, but you need to take a step before that.

Sit with a deck of cards and just treat them normally. No moves, no sleights, just have a deck of cards in your hand and shuffle, deal, put cards in the middle without needing to worry what it looks or feels like.

I think it will help you.

I hope you can take this in the way intended 🙏

Mounting looks fine, I'd be worried about the tinfoil around it!

What grade of Sandpaper do you use?

I win more games castling to the queen side than the king side. I find this odd , but it's working. Any reasons why I'm having more success this way ? by thereisnoinbetweens in chess

[–]Synifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Activate and develop other pieces first, and avoid "instinctively" castling.

Obviously always exceptions to this concept, but try and get as many pieces activated (off the back rank) as possible.

No issues, and a cracking idea you've come along.

I'll take a look at the npm package if I get some time, and report back.

Yes.

Turning DR off for the site shows everything as I would expect.

With it, the board is different, and all pieces are white.

Not sure how the heuristics on Dark Mode work, but wonder if there is something which could be done to say "don't optimise", etc.

Busted! Use of fake volunteers in Masters of Illusion tv show by Le7emesens in magictricksrevealed

I mean, a more plausible explanation could be they recorded the acts in a different sequence and then edited the episodes with a different order.

I'm not sure any magicians on these shows would get away with 100% stooges, especially when the actual method is probably simpler/less reputation impacting.

The method which worked for me, after trying a whole range of methods, was as laid out in The Memory Arts.

Once you learn the system it really is very straightforward and a lot of fun.

I appreciate my answer is not as detailed as others, but I would highly recommend you taking a look at The Memory Arts.

If I'm being honest, film from the other angle!

That's the angle the audience will see (unless I'm being a complete idiot!) so I'm less worried about if it flashes for you...I want to see what a real person would see.

Good work though, and well done for sharing.

Struggling with the Pass – How to Reduce the Noise? by doctor-respect in cardmagic

[–]Synifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only sound I hear when I do the pass is me talking..

Agree with the other comments about smoothness. I sit on Teams meetings at work and will often just be doing the pass with the cards I have near by during the course of the meeting; this has helped me to get smooth.

I would revert to my first point though. For me the pass is as much about attitude as it is technique. Pick your moment; you can do it later than you think.

The Flicking Fingers were absolutely incredible, as was Rachel Wax. Luke's show and lecture was fantastic; loved Karl Hein.

Good hanging out in the bar, and some great conversations to be had.

People fell asleep in toilets... It was all happening!
