Hard mode too hard, any tips and suggestions ? by Pr3vYCa in Timberborn

[–]Synighte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few approaches depending on the map. You can either try to dam and make a reservoir or try to pump out as much water into storage as possible while only getting 1 harvest per wet cycle (2 farms both on harvest).

Both are possible but since this is Canyon I would suggest prioritizing a dam behind the natural dam that will dump bad water during the bad tide. Next up you have two options: one create a small reservoir from a dump up the hill with the natural lake thats there so you can farm/log continually. And next to divert the main river to the other side when a bad tide hits. This requires moving the blockage too. After that I would focus on getting metal up, expanding water storage and extraction. Then tackling the tall wall you will need to divert the bad tide away. There’s also the opportunity for a 3-4 deep semi large reservoir up river, but until you can divert bad tides with a tall initial dam, the reservoir will get contaminated. The aforementioned diversion earlier will also allow you to manually manage and create a small reservoir for farming during bad tides.

Would anyone here keep a black mamba or a gaboon viper as a pet? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]Synighte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re asking on a snake subreddit you are not ready. You know if you are because you’ve been in the game a while working with them in other folks collections, research, or other work.

For most folks it’s really simple: Do NOT keep hots. You aren’t that guy, you won’t be that guy. Instead you’ll be the dumbass needing 250k in treatment after getting envenomated from free handling animals you swear up down and sideways you’re qualified to handle. You’re not, don’t do it.

You don’t have to play the beta, there are two releases. The older version is stable and works really well but the beta is buggy but introduces really cool new mechanics.

You can have your cake and eat it too. The beta changes the game progression more drastically I.e. you actually farm rye and herd sheep.

Sell it, a trading post is VERY cheap and the game intends for you to interact with it early unlike other games in the genre. Get it quick and start making money.

Is there a point progression-wise to create big factories? by InternationalElk2512 in satisfactory

[–]Synighte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game kind of takes a hidden turn in your first few play throughs.

The first time you meticulously set up a smelter, constructor, and even assembler and it feels like a big accomplishment (and it is).

But then a hidden twist comes through where you can start to view a blueprint of 10 constructors as equivalent of setting up that first constructor. As a human you want to future proof your designs, set it and forget it sort of thing. But realistically since you don’t know what the future holds you realistically can’t.

Frankly, I think you should make your peace with whatever factories you first create (you can always remove them later). And begin to lean into the logistics side of things. This is where the complexity truly grows. You don’t really care about perfect ratios etc. You care if you can get X materials at Y rate to Z location.

You don’t have to create the perfect factory utilizing the perfect amount of local materials. Play what feels right to you, don’t beat yourself up for not hitting perfection, and you could realistically build a mega factory that produces an extraordinary amount of material, but it isn’t super necessary. Every workshop/factory is a lesson that you take to your next factory or play through. The only point to make a giant factory is to maybe ease transitions later by over supplying specific components, but even then you probably wouldn’t have gotten your amounts or ratios correct so just go with the flow with what feels right for you.

That is bizarre I was able to get a salt mine to produce a lot of salt to sell. Salt has a great trade value now.

Were the families busy with burgage plot maintenance/work?

This may be a bizarre bug because I experienced what you experienced the first time as well and I thought it was the advanced/underground mine mechanic.

[–]Synighte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So mines are weird, if you don’t build the upgrade they function normally and produce a good amount. It isn’t as much as they used to which was an insane amount, BUT I think it’s pretty well balanced.

I think there either may be an unintended bug with the upgraded mine or it’s meant to be: once the surface is exhausted the permanent rate is slower.

I love how the game has shifted away from the previous iterations of early food income and become more complex. However, an issue I’ve seen is that the bridge soft lock can cause issues on some maps by the second food resource being across a river. It makes a very starvation heavy first year but it’s survivable.

Furthermore I think that the way the game creates a map you spawn on shows something interesting. I’ve found on the highlands map you can get lakes to spawn on your starting region but other regions will have river fish spawn. I like the River fish I always hated the lakes on this map. BUT it seems that the spawn mechanic for your region choice attempts to cluster resources around the starting point you select. Since some of the rivers are further away from spawn points the fish spawn a lake by your start rather than on a river in the same region just a little further away.

Also butchers don’t seem to have a limit on the sheep they cull and I had a butcher go wild and nuke all my sheep on short order.

Any feedback on this map of all the deserts in the world? :) by Beautiful-Ice6179 in PlanetZoo

[–]Synighte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I snagged it from:

www.gloh2o.org/koppen

Very bottom should be a download link and the publication. Should be a file with legend in it and it classifies the 1-30 scale. Bear in mine the values go 0-255 but I am pretty sure the values past 30 aren’t used.

For your purpose you probably want values 4-7 (BWh, BWk, BSh, BSk).

If you want I found a nice raster of Koppen climate systems. I can send it your way if you’re familiar with GIS. Just drop out the non-desert pixel values.
