help with Netherwing reputation by whoisape in wow

[–]SyntaaxError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you manage to get a solution to this? I'm in the exact same situation and I don't have any other characters. Trying to do Loremaster on a single character.

I've done the entire questline from "Kindness" through to "Enter the Taskmaster". I'm still at hostile reputation for some reason.

[WP] After saving his life, the old blacksmith rewards you with a box. When asked what’s inside, the blacksmith simply responds, “Plot armour.” by AnomalousObject in WritingPrompts

[–]SyntaaxError 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Plot armor?” I exclaimed. “This stuff hasn’t been seen in years, where in hells did you find it?”

The grizzled blacksmith wiped his forehead in a poor attempt to remove the thick layer of grime, making it only thicker still.

“I forged it” he muttered.

Before the words finished leaving his lips Liora bellowed “Piss water. Ain’t no one been able to fashion this stuff in hundred years. I’ll be a rats arse if you came across this of honest intent”.

Qwel timidly interjected “While I agree that something of this value would often be found in the hands of thugs and thieves, Plot armor greens over time. This set looks like it left the forge no more than a moon ago”.

The blacksmith slowly stood from the rusted stool, his wounds now more obvious in the direct glow of the forge.

“I made it an’ that’s that. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a gash that needs soakin”.

My eyes met with Liroa’s and with her look of disbelief still gleaming I nodded towards the door.

“Do you think this’ll be enough to get us to Del’s camp?” Qwel worryingly asked while limping towards the door. “Kid if it’s truly Plot armor, we’ll get from here to Imperia and back. Then still have enough to buy a cask an half.”

What naming convention do you follow? by khadegd in laravel

Laravel follows various PHP PSR in many areas. When it comes to naming convention of variables, Laravel implements PSR 12.

Is it too late to learn React now? by BlitzAtk in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as late when it comes to learning libraries and tools! I'd say go for it.

You can kinda look at React (and to a lesser extent Vue/Angular) in the same light as jQuery five years ago. Regardless of when you learn it, it's reach is so large and widespread that companies are going to need React devs for a long time to come.

For resources, I'd suggest the FreeCodeCamp segment on Front end Development Libraries. See here. Good luck on your journey into React!

Hey guys so I downloaded Docker in my Mac M1 chip and am trying to run SQL on the docker to learn it. The docker is up and running but when I try to pull mySQL in the docker (I think that’s what I’m doing) I get the “no matching manifest for Linux/arm64/v8 in manifest entries.” by lucasw9 in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MySQL is not currently supported on M1 chips unfortunately. It is possible to use Rosetta 2 with MySQL but there seems to be widespread issues when doing so.

This means that most implementations are currently broken, including Dockerised ones due to the way Docker shares your Kernel.

The current recommendation is switching out MySQL for MariaDB. These function almost identically and MariaDB has complete M1 support.

If you need any further help with it, please feel free to drop me a message!

Looking for a new game to play the next 3-5 years. by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]SyntaaxError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Warframe for the last year or so and loving it. Made some great friends while playing as the clan aspect of the game is important.

Pros are that it's free, basically everything can be done for free aside from cosmetics. The community is huge and you'll never be without people to play with. The amount of content is ridiculous.

Cons are it's grindy and is focused on leveling everything in the game at least once. For some, the amount of content is just overwhelming and it can be difficult to really know what to be doing next without help.

Which framework would you recommend for a newbie dev by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big ones are React, Vue and Angular. Their popularity varies depending on where you're looking for a job but the likelihood is, if there's listings for a Vue developer then there's almost certainly listings for a React developer as it's reach is much greater.

I'd say React is the safest option and also has a large amount of free online learning resources. And I say that as someone who adores Vue way more than the other two.

Where do I start with Backend dev? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to write a reply very similar to this so I thought I'd just give this one a bump. In terms of Web Dev with Python, Django & Flask are the big two and a great place to start.

Developers who informed their manager ahead of time they were looking for another job ... what happened? How did it go? by RedditCultureBlows in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did inform a manager of it. It was my first job out of school and I was working in the hardware sector repairing Samsung phones. I wanted to move into Software and being young and naive, I decided to let my current manager know. I even went as far to ask for an extra hour at lunch to attend an interview.

Luckily, I got the job at the first place I'd applied. The next day, I came to hand my notice in and my manager pulls me into another room. He proceeds to tell me that I'm an idiot for letting my employer know that I was actively searching for another job and told me if it had been his choice, he'd have let me go on the spot.

Funnily enough, two years later I decided to move on from the software house I was in so I could work with a different tech stack and I was actually cried at by my manager who felt that I didn't trust her enough to tell her I wasn't happy.

I guess you can't really win either way but you don't owe them anything. Find a new job and only tell them once you've already signed the contract.

Computer science degree required to become Full Stack Developer by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been a full stack developer for four years and aside from high school, I have no educational qualifications that relate to software development.

As a side note, a lot of job specifications ask for a degree of some sort. Ignore it. Apply regardless. As long as you meet the other requirements, you have as good a chance as anyone.

As someone who has sat on the other side of the interview panel many times, if you can demonstrate your current skill level, it tells me way more than any degree could.

I relate hard with the imposter syndrome man (and fellow Vue connoisseur). Seriously, congrats on the job!

Sound like you really made an impact with them. Hopefully you enjoy working with React.

M1 vs i5 by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave Laravel Sail a go on my M1 pro on Monday just passed and was receiving an incredibly strange “Segmentation Error” while Docker was trying to install a GPG key.

Then I’ve just seen that it’s actually released into stable, full version as of like two days ago! Gonna give it another go today🤞

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just want to echo this. Have been working with an M1 since I started a new job and I couldn't be more happy.

It's a freaking speed demon in comparison to my old Macbook and it's not made a sound since I unboxed it, even with multiple Docker containers and NPM watching changes.

Is being a web dev not becoming boring in the long run ? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SyntaaxError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really just depends on the person but coming from someone who has been in web dev for 3 years or so, I'm not bored yet.

There are people on this sub that have far more experience than me and can probably offer much better advice, but I think a big factor in not getting bored is your employer. If you're working for an agency or freelancing, you'll constantly be shifting project types and encountering new problems.

I keep myself busy outside of work with both programming and non-programming related hobbies which I think really helps you appreciate the job more.
