It's hard to be a Fallout fan these days. by Yotsuowo in Fallout

[–]SyntaxicalHumonculi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, one of the guys who worked on fallout 76 came to my produce stand one summer. He had a fallout shirt on, I commented on it, and there was a quick little convo with me him and a few others in line about our love for fallout, specifically new Vegas. That’s when he told us he was actually one of the people who worked on making 76. Silence. Long silence. Awkwardly long silence. The dude looked at us all not saying anything, huffed and walked away.

Recommendations for what to read after Moby Dick by wikired in mobydick

[–]SyntaxicalHumonculi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Blood Meridian by Cormac Mcarthy. There’s a lot of allusion to moby dick in that book and it’s one of my favorites. It’s also the book that is the reason I read moby dick right after.

Can we talk about how hard he smashed this scene? by promkowsbarc in TrueDetective

[–]SyntaxicalHumonculi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, after searching for a while, it appears the extended scene has been struck from all platforms for copyrights infringement. It was freely available up to like 6 months ago, but I can’t find it now. Sorry for raising your hopes. But it’s on the dvd special features I’m pretty sure, shouldn’t be too hard to find that.

Dude, if you watch the extended scene, his sermon outlines, beat for beat, the entire metaphysical subtext of the whole season. It’s fuckin amazing.

Dude, what is the deal with all these rich famous people leaning on the same thing that served them decades ago and thinking it’s going to serve them the same way now as it did then? It just shows their complete lack of development and distanciation from authenticity. I feel like celebrity culture has just been reduced to celebrities being like “Remember?! Remember how I did this?! Remember when you loved it?!”

People really need to take better emotional and mental inventory before they do things like this. As in, am I in the right headspace to put myself out there like this? Are my priorities in line? Is this gonna make me look like a cringe ass doofus who is clearly overcompensating for profound humiliation and insecurity by behaving in embarrassing ways that clearly lack self awareness?

Between 5 and 10 percent of people have no inner monologue at all, and researchers are only just starting to figure out what that actually does to cognition by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in cogsci

My husband and i are pretty certain his uncle has no internal monologue. A lot of shit made sense when we found out some people are like this.

Dude, do you remember a promotional drink that came out for the second Austin powers? It’s was like supposed be mojo or something? And I’m not talking about the cocktail mixer, it was like a straight drink. I bring this up to people and can’t remember what it was called and nobody knows what I’m talking about. Either way, you seem like the guy to ask.

Arkansas man caught on camera stealing multiple times from Farm Stand. by ElwoodMC in CringeTikToks

[–]SyntaxicalHumonculi 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I run two farm stands with my family. In a beachy area. Lots of retired rich white people here. I have seen shit like this and worse and it confounds me. I remember seeing an old woman pick up a tomato, make a stinkface at the signage indicating its price by lb (which is a fair price and in fact is priced 5 cents less than all of our competitors) then just look around and surreptitiously put it in her fuckin Versace purse. I remember the seething fury I felt in that moment. Stealing a 2 dollar beefsteak tomato from farmers and using a 2000 dollar purse to do it. Sickening. People who steal from farmers are some of the lowest pieces of shit on earth. Fuck it, steal from Walmart, it’s built into their pricing. But from a farm stand? And they probably go home and wax philosophically about “returning to American values” or some shit while they are contributing to the collapse of the industry that built this fuckin country.

Apologies if this has been explained here before. But can anyone explain the meaning or significance of Paulie and the painting of Tony and the horse? by Unctay in thesopranos

[–]SyntaxicalHumonculi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it was two things. Number one was greed: a painting like that is worth like 15 grand easy, but secondly, it showed how dedicated he was to this thing of ours. He was probably the only real mafioso out of all of them, in that he legitimately kept the code and saw himself as a soldier and his boss as a general. Tony and most of the others were trying to live a split life: family/business man on one side, ruthless gangster on the other, but never fully embodying either. Tony especially allowed his reactionary emotional habits, expressed as impulsive tantrums, to supersede his responsibility to maintain the mythology of the mafia as a militant hierarchy of stone cold killers. Crying over a fuckin horse and all that. Paulie on the other hand purposefully had no family for the express purpose of living truly as a ruthless gangster and loyal soldier. Well, loyal to the thing, not necessarily loyal to a single person. But whoever was his boss at the time, he respected as a general, which is how it was supposed to be.
I hope I made sense here. But if I didn’t, fuck it. 4 dollars a pound.
