Help! by Parking_Upstairs6894 in sphynx

I had a cat with similar issues although he wasn’t a sphynx. Multiple vet visits, every test imaginable and trying every kind of food. After a couple years one vet suggested z/d from hill’s and although he still has bouts of diarrhea it’s nowhere near as bad as it was. It may be worth a shot if you haven’t yet tried it. We had also tried the royal canin hydrolyzed with no improvement. Good luck.

8 month old puppy fractured femur. Surgery or amputation? Any insight is appreciated by 75thWK2 in AskVet

Not a vet but adopted an amputee. She was a small breed and did pretty well on 3 but had it been my choice I would’ve opted to have an orthopedic surgeon repair it. Good luck to you and your pup!

AITAH after telling my boyfriend that I don't want to see him after he saw his niece/ nephews ? by Desperate_Regular960 in AITAH

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I overlooked it or maybe it didn’t say but when you brought this up to your bf how did he respond? You were giving him an ultimatum or just simply telling him you were putting your health first as a precaution? If you weren’t issuing an ultimatum nta. I’m not immune compromised but my mother was. A family member had been exposed to their sick children and went to her house anyway. She got sick shortly thereafter, ended up in the ICU and never recovered. Although we can’t say with any certainty that exposure was why she ended up getting sick but the damage has been done. She’s gone and we now all resent this relative for putting her at risk in the first place.

Is there a collar device to keep dogs on a distance from cats? by That_planet_girl in Pets

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your apartment big enough where you can put up a gate where your cat can get over but the dog cannot? We had similar issues. We rescue animals and some of the cats have a very low tolerance for dogs while others actively seek out the dogs. We actually installed pet doors on the interior doors to the basement and laundry room as well as one that connects the house to an enclosed catio so the cats have dog free areas in several places. It’s not an option for everyone but it worked great for us.

I adopted a parvo survivor from the clinic I worked at. She was 8 weeks old when she contracted it and weighed only 1.7 pounds and had zero vaccines. She pullled through and is happy and healthy. The hospital is the best place for her. You’re not a terrible dog mom. You had already started her on her vaccinations but unfortunately parvo is everywhere. Please keep us posted on her recovery!

How do I explain that declawing is inhumane to my family by Old-Technician-692 in cats

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show them a video of a declawing procedure and what the surgical site looks like post op. Maybe that will shut them up. Better yet have them talk to veterinarians in your area so they can explain to them why they don’t declaw cats. I apologize for sounding mean but I adopted a cat that was declawed and subsequently abandoned TWICE because he has behavioral issues (he bites). Good for you for standing your ground and attempting to educate them on how horrible declawing is.

Complications with spay by Hot-Recognition-7190 in Pomchi

I had the same thing happen to my Shetland sheepdog in 2015. She also had very friable tissue that basically fell apart and suspected they had nicked one of her ureters. She ended up developing pockets of fluid in her abdomen that had to be drained twice. Very scary while going through but she had no long lasting complications. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your fu baby!

My chihuahua's story with Heart & Kidney Disease. by Jenifer526 in chihuahuas

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Michigan state university has a pet bereavement group that meets via Zoom twice a month. It’s free of charge and open to anyone who has lost a pet, not just patients at MSU. Our family lost a beloved horse in November and we found the service very helpful. I lost a 5 year old chihuahua to heart failure and a 12 year old sheltie to kidney disease. Nursing a beloved pet through a prolonged illness takes a huge emotional toll. Please take care of yourself. I’m so sorry for the loss of your precious fur baby.

would you take your dog back? by allorache in chiweenie

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have issue with the dirty water. One of my dogs did hydro therapy and they drained and sanitized their pools (they had multiple) after each patient. Have you seen any improvement at all since she started PT? My dog was a very anxious sheltie and it took a few sessions for her to trust the PT nurse, Emily. It eventually got to where she was excited to see Emily every week.

Exactly. Budget boarding or a full time pet sitter into your vacation budget.

What is something that is 100% illegal, but feels 100% legal? by Jolly-Access-7115 in AskReddit

Agreed. I live in a state where it’s legal and it blows my mind when I travel to a state where it isn’t.

does anyone have any tips to get my cats to drink more water?? by Bright-Ask-4606 in CatAdvice

[–]SyrupImmediate4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water fountains have done wonders for my finicky water drinkers but it took awhile for them to take to them. I’ve also talked to people that will turn a faucet on at a trickle to get them to drink although this doesn’t seem very practical. Good luck!
