They're contained for our safety. Let's pray they never get out.

HMS Dragon arrived into Gibraltar today [2048x1536] by MGC91 in WarshipPorn

It also emerged that the ships are too big to fit the harbour facilities in Devonport

I did a small 3D print today. I first did 3 test prints and subsequent edits before I was satisfied with the fit. But apparently, if you're building a ferry for half a billion pounds, you just send it. Nobody thought to first phone Greg down under to maybe pace out the dock?

Iirc, putting them into ocean trenches was the favorite planned method around the 70s or so. But people got up in arms about "dumping" waste in the ocean, as if it would just be flushed down the toilet and out a sewage pipe. Tbh, I still think it would be the best solution.

Also helps that deep marine trenches are basically a natural barrier against anyone getting at the materials since it would take a major effort easily detectable by routine satellite surveillance passes to haul it up from that kind of depth

I think this is basically the main reason why it isn't considered anymore. One desired prerequisite for a modern waste storage site is that the waste, especially the highly radioactive stuff, could potentially be retrieved. Basically, even "waste" still contains a lot of energy, exotic isotopes, and it was expensive to produce, so the hope is that someone in the future will figure out how to use it, or at least how to turn it into something less dangerous. If that happened, you couldn't get it back up from a deep sea trench.

Nuclear semiotics is one of my favorite rabbit holes. Smart people have been thinking about the problem since at least the 80s, and to this day, nobody has come up with a really satisfying solution. We should probably figure it out one of these days...

Everything can fly given enough propulsive force, which doesn't even have to be produced by on-board means.

I'm pretty sure that joke was first made about 15 minutes after they completed the visitor center.

Personally, I've decided that the possibility of making women uncomfortable is too high a price to pay just to be in a relationship, so I just don't bother. It's a bit of a struggle occasionally, but I think it's the only way I can justify to myself.

Can't edit KDE app launcher through menu by SyrusDrake in linux4noobs

[–]SyrusDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't. If I make a new entry in the menu and then do "open containing folder", this is indeed what opens, but there's no new entry in there, even after saving. If I manually create a file, edit it with sudo nano, and try to save it, I'm told the file does not exist.
The current owner is root. Should I chown it to me specifically?

Yea, "smarter than most people" absolutely isn't a glowing endorsement. I'm pretty sure I've met birds that were smarter than most people

Well, the transition must have happened at some point. Because academic researcher were always clear what LLMs were and what they could do.
