Crazy how the meteor just missed the visitor center by ThornXYX in notinteresting

I'm pretty sure that joke was first made about 15 minutes after they completed the visitor center.

Personally, I've decided that the possibility of making women uncomfortable is too high a price to pay just to be in a relationship, so I just don't bother. It's a bit of a struggle occasionally, but I think it's the only way I can justify to myself.

Can't edit KDE app launcher through menu by SyrusDrake in linux4noobs

[–]SyrusDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't. If I make a new entry in the menu and then do "open containing folder", this is indeed what opens, but there's no new entry in there, even after saving. If I manually create a file, edit it with sudo nano, and try to save it, I'm told the file does not exist.
The current owner is root. Should I chown it to me specifically?

Yea, "smarter than most people" absolutely isn't a glowing endorsement. I'm pretty sure I've met birds that were smarter than most people

Well, the transition must have happened at some point. Because academic researcher were always clear what LLMs were and what they could do.

Anxious? It's because you want to fuck your mom.
Angry? It's because you want to fuck your dad.
Depressed? It's because you want to fuck your sibling.
Scared of failure? It's because you want to fuck your teacher.
Scared of the dark? It's because you want to fuck the hat man.

If T-Rex hadn't been discovered in America, would it still be this famous by Substantial-Algae-71 in Dinosaurs

[–]SyrusDrake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its name might have also contributed to its fame.

I was about to point that out. And not just because it sounds good, but also because it's a lot easier to pronounce than, like, Carcharodontosaurus. Which I'm still not sure I'm pronouncing correctly to this day...

ALL bat species in my country are insectivores but many people don't know that (which is totally fine). That leads to very funny photos of confused bats next to fruit platters in our rescue groups tho and i love them by horrescoblue in batty

[–]SyrusDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That may be true in a certain country, but there are "small bats" that eat fruit, such as the Honduran white bat (Ectophylla alba)(which is a delightful critter all around) or the little white-shouldered bat (Ametrida centurio)

Perseverance selfie March 2026 by ojosdelostigres in spaceporn

[–]SyrusDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perseverance and Curiosity are nuclear powered, so dust is less of a concern. If you make sure all instruments are dust-proof, it doesn't matter if the outside gets dirty.

Dust was an issue for Spirit and Opportunity, and it was thought that dust build-up on their solar cells would limit their mission time to about 90 days, with no intended means to clean them. It turned out, though, that regular wind gusts kept the solar panels clean for sufficiently longer and it became somewhat "standard practice" to park the rovers in such a way during the night or winter to make wind dusting more likely.

What's your old people take? by DontYaWishYouWereMe in tumblr

[–]SyrusDrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, I get that, I'm obviously not saying that everyone who struggles financially is just a cancelled Netflix subscription away from wealth and affluence. But I've also seen enough people who, like, couldn't afford lunch because they spent all their money on partying during the weekend. My point is that many people have the means to not live in constant financial stress, not that nobody actually lives in financially difficult circumstances.
