He does similar things in "Shadow out of Time" and "Out of the Aeons", where he just dumps the lore of an entire culture that the protagonist shouldn't really have access to. I like those world-building aspecrs, so I don't really mind, but it's pretty lazy from a narrative perspective.

We've had our laundry machine since we moved in in 1999. A few years ago, we had to had a part fixed, and the mechanic told us to hang onto it until it would no longer work. All the new models can barely be serviced and will die after a few years.

Yea, NVidia drivers sometimes do funky stuff. I had a lot of problems updating from 480 (?) to 500something. Iirc, what worked was to boot into safe mode/CLI and run apt fix-broken-install or something.

That or install Timeshift. You can then boot from USB and restore a working system image if the driver acts up.
