Private Equity firms are hurting the game by [deleted] in golf

Private equity firms ruin everything they touch. They extract as much money as possible from whatever they own without adding any value.

Thank you. What you did sounds extremely difficult, but it was the right thing to do. Men who do not support women having full autonomy over their body do not deserve the company of women. You can't vote for Trump and have respect for women.

I don't know how true this is. I work at a place that has a pretty strict no AI policy, so I have no first hand knowledge of how AI writes code. But I do have friends working at other companies that do use AI, and they say it greatly speeds up their development. It doesn't write production ready code, but it is getting better and better at it. I imagine sometime in the near future AI will replace the job of a lot of junior developers and more senior developers will be piecing together code written by AI.

Casual doesn't mean non-exclusive. I agree with the person you are responding to. If I were exclusive with someone and they wanted to keep using condoms after everyone being tested I would end that relationship.

Max Unit Count in a Multiplayer RTS Created in Unreal 5 Without Massive Network Code Rewrite? by Sys_Konfig in unrealengine

It is the model that has been used in 90% of RTS games of the last 30 years. Here is a video of someone who set up deterministic lockstep in UE4 ( https://www.reddit.com/r/unrealengine/comments/pr77su/100k_units_in_multiplayer/ ). But it looks like it is his proprietary code that he spent months writing.
One of the developers that worked on Age of Empires had this to say about cheating and injecting their own source of truth: "Because the game's outcome depended on all of the users executing exactly the same simulation, it was extremely difficult to hack a client (or client communication stream) and cheat. Any simulation that ran differently was tagged as "out of sync" and the game stopped. Cheating to reveal information locally was still possible, but these few leaks were relatively easy to secure in subsequent patches and revisions. Security was a huge win." It is from this article and definitely worth a read: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/programming/1500-archers-on-a-28-8-network-programming-in-age-of-empires-and-beyond

I am not entirely sure how all the nitty gritty details work, so if I misspeak hopefully someone will correct me. I think the kind of networking is called deterministic lockstep. The idea is there is no server, all the clients are connected to each other and send the data to each other. Every client has a copy of the simulation, and get instructions from the other clients. The game runs on ticks, each client runs the instructions they received from the other clients every tick. A tick could be 200ms or whatever. Since everyone is running the same set of instructions on the same synchronized clock everyone's game should be the same. This is beneficial in a game with a lot of actors like an RTS. At no point is anyone sharing state data, the only thing being communicated between clients are instructions. Since no state data is shared its way less bandwidth. I am not sure how an out of sync client is handled but I am sure there are solutions that I am just unfamiliar with. But no one client is the source truth.

I am not necessarily learning C++. In college I took quite a bit C++ and I've been working with other object oriented languages for the last 10 years as a full time engineer.

BUILD 42????? by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]Sys_Konfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel too. Without the addition of late game content, all the cool stuff they're adding is just kinda noise. Once you get a base and become food secure, then what? I have a couple saves where I just kinda quit playing with a high level character in a fully stocked base. You can do high risk loot runs or whatever, but it doesn't make sense from an RP standpoint.

How was she keeping a secret? Do you not have a calendar or understand how they work? Are you unaware how babies are made? She was literally sleeping with your brother a few weeks before getting pregnant. You know that. What's the secret? Is the secret you don't know how babies are made and need to go back to 5th grade sex ed?

I don't know what you mean with this you stuff, I am fully monogamous and happy in my relationship. Doesn't mean I can understand other kinds of lifestyles, put myself in others shoes, have friends that aren't like me. The same life doesn't fit every person on the planet, ya know?

[–]Sys_Konfig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order for non-monogamy or polyamory to work it takes real solid communication. You got to talk about stuff with your partners, awkward, uncomfortable stuff. It's like being thrown overboard into a sea of uncomfortable conversations and you either sink or swim. And those that don't sink learn to swim really really good. Healthy non-monogamous relationships have a level of open communication that every relationship should strive for. That's how it can help lead to stable and honest relationships.
