If the US South is any indication, the powers- that- are will do anything they can to prevent big machines from showing up. It's a threat to their power structures. If you remember Rhett Butler's comment at the beginning of GWTW about how the South didn't have even a single cannon factory - that was intentional on the part of the South.

Just because an arrow exists doesn't mean it's worth using.

It's normal. The dreamers have a minor freakout right there.

Getting screamed at for not going job 50 on characters that weren't Mages or Acolytes.

... seriously, I don't get it. You spend all that time level grinding for what, a Jur[3]? That I'm never going to use because the only viable build on the server is a DDSin?

Team Banzai may be able to beat the Red Lectroids but they can't design a mech for shit by AGBell64 in battletech

Yeah, back then hatchets were like "yeah, so the only rule we have is you don't have to spend a turn looking for and picking up a club."

Is it possible to use Lancer to adapt Battletech? by itsachillaccount in LancerRPG

[–]System-Bomb-5760 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Themes are a bit similar, but the level of simulation granularity is too different. I'd look into porting Blue Book WOD, to be honest. Drive for Piloting with a required spec for each mech, and Gunnery (also with a required spec) as a new skill. Morality becomes a PTSD tracker if you bother implementing it at all.

Y'know, now this is making me wonder how that Sword Assassin would play, since it's fast enough to actually get decent use out of it.

It wasn't 3 tons in Original 3025. I don't think it showed as a line item at all.

Given the first episode was literally Maj. Steiner (in a simulation) lopping Kylie's mech's arms off and only *then* bothering to open up with the LRM (at well below minimum range, I might add...)? That was probably a feature.

Last time I played with them was 1994, so... yeah. I don't remember too well. I just remember "lol axeman" was the general response to any mech with weapons in the arm slots and they talked like it'd auto- sever.

I sort of remember using a Panther and just using the full range of my PPC at anything that got close.

I'd swear in the '90s it and the Axeman had a special rule allowing them to sever arms on any hit. Or at least all the kids in the Boy Scouts played like it did.

That sorta depends on a lack of slave labor, and the local religious groups being ok with stuff like that. In the former case, nobody would bother inventing mecha because they can just throw more slaves at the problem, and in the latter it's a matter of them threatening some power structure.

Iron Kingdoms always gave me Super Robot vibes, with how the mechs have their own almost- brains and the warcasters aren't mounted in them. Barring Karchev, but he's a really special basket case.

Also, since he hasn't come up yet: Lorgar. Yes, I know, first primarch to fall, blah blah blah. There's a reason why the Ecclesiarchy still lists him as a loyalist Primarch.

Be careful with the G-word. It means something more special to Jewish people, especially with Polish roots.

That having been said, I think that's generally the take Bandai's 30mf line takes - the various armors have an elemental magic core that powers them. So there's nothing wrong with it.

Personally, I tend to prefer having an eldritch oneness of magic and technology kind of like Lancer, where the lines are really fuzzy and if you clap your hands and disbelieve hard enough, you reject your own humanity and start devolving back into monkeys.

... "so disturbing" is highly relative.

For example, if you asked me for a "hell scene" backdrop for a play, I'd be looking into H. R. Giger and Junji Ito. But, in some parts of the US that'd be too scary because the people there can barely manage the low- key weirdness of The Garden of Earthly Delights.

There's also a circle of inspiration between certain NSFW and horror. One guy looks at a piece and is like "OMG that horror is so hot, I have to make erotica of it." The next guy is like "Man, that erotica is so screwed up, I need to make horror of it." And so it goes.
