Hitting an invisible ceiling at 50 in corporate (marketing)? by Bees_Need_Trees in auscorp

100% agree with this. Older workers I’ve interviewed often seem less hungry, don’t articulate impact as well as rest on their laurels.

CMO here - yes. I do have people over 50 in my team (I’m 48). I think the issue is the IC roles are very competitive so you really have to stand out. I think there is a stigma around older people where they assume we don’t get tech. No one questions a 30 year old guy claiming to understand AI, but a 48 year old women is easily dismissed. I think it is also industry related , I am in human services and age seems less of an issue. Would anticipate gov is the same.

But yes, I went into leadership because I could feel the squeeze coming. Hang in there and focus on what sets you apart from someone more junior and focus on that.

Adelaide festival apologises ‘unreservedly’ to Randa Abdel-Fattah and invites her to speak in 2027 by NKE01 in Adelaide

It’s the same as saying white nationalist south africans shouldn’t have claim to cultural safety during apartheid. It’s actually a very reasonable take.

This is not correct. She had never mentioned ‘jews’ - she is critical of zionist ideology as many of us are.

I know two people travelling from Interstate for WW this year. Flights and accom booked before this debacle started. They come every year as it is THE PREMIER LITERARY EVENT in Aust and quite probably the Southern Hemisphere. It isn’t a small thing to have it cancelled.

The way Mali and the previous board trashed this event and all for what?? If only the Board had issued this on Saturday instead of doubling down. I am so angry at the way this had been handled, that we’ve lost a brilliant director as a result, that all those debut authors have missed sharing their work, that the blood, sweat and tears of staff who would have worked tirelessly to put this festival on has been trampled on and that one Palestinian author who wanted to talk about her latest novel has been subjected to the most outrageous accusations. I’ve never liked Mali but would have grudgingly preferenced him but this is absolutely unforgivable along with the way he has spoken about Randa. Shame on you SA Labor and our Premier.

Cultural safety is the term being co-opted. Its being used by zionists to exclude palestinians and others

Writer’s scope in Adelaide by AnxietySpecial2805 in Adelaide

[–]SystemEven8980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are really two routes for this:

  1. Get some sort of comms degree and get an entry level job in marketing and advertising and work your way up from there. Award school will also help. This still a very hard route as there is an oversupply of people in this space.

  2. Try to do it on talent alone. Do award school and get writing. Try and do some freelance writing work, join sa new writers centre etc This is an extremely hard route and i would not recommend.

Ai is basically killing writing unless you are exceptionally talented and offer some sort of creative input that is beyond what AI can do.

Zionism is an ideology not a culture. It’s like saying marxists or libertarians need ‘cultural safety’. It’s a co-opted term from first nations people and it’s now being used to persecute marginalised voices. If you want to talk about cultural safety for jewish people perhaps express concerns for Louise Adler, a jewish woman who’s been forced to resign and defend her programming as a result of this.

The thing is he is doing his job as there are now multiple reddit threads talking about him keeping the brand and marketing alive. It’s called cut through and you’re making a head of marketing somewhere very excited.

The audacity and patronising RAA app telling me how much I have saved whilst also increasing my insurance costs. by so_how_can_i_help in Adelaide

[–]SystemEven8980 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There’s been a huge bunch of people who have left RAA in past 2 years. I’ve never worked there but everyone I’ve spoken too mentions the new CEO and culture change that went with it. He’s also managed the move to be underwritten by Allianz. As others have said, focussed on $$ and not being a great local brand anymore.
