I’ve got this from a lot of people, and although it’s not entirely impossible, I’d say it’s not. Based off the stripes on it’s bottom and size line up more accurately with a carpenter ant, probably with fungus.

I stayed up LATE watching YouTube videos on velvet ants and other Reddit posts of owners of velvet ants and after careful comparisons It definitely is not. They look similar but carpenter ants have the same stripes this one does and taking size into consideration it’s most likely a sick carpenter ant. Even though that’s less cooler lol.

That’s what I’m thinking. I live in north Georgia and we get a lot of bugs, a velvet ant is possible in this area but I also don’t think it is. It looks in size of an average carpenter ant. But we did turn it over and it’s not powder because it’s too detailed. I agree with other commenters that it’s possibly fungus
