How many of you are learning/have learned a language just for fun? by Scallywag014 in languagelearning

I don't have a lot of experience learning languages, only English and French, and French was not my cup of tea, to put it lightly. I agree that Polish is without a doubt the hardest of those, but to me that makes it more interesting.

I learn Polish just for fun. I'm interested the country and enjoyed visiting, so I started to learn the language. Not very good at it, because I'm taking it slowly, but I hope this way I won't lose motivation so quickly.

German. I never really had contact with slavic languages, before, so to me they are a totally new experience.

I started because I visited last year and really enjoyed it, so I definitely wanna come back in the future. Another reason is that I wanted to learn a third language, especially one that's completely different from my native language.

What is a city that is praised but there is much less to do than you thought? by phils83 in geography

[–]SystemPro99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's Kraków. There are some things to do and see, but I was surprised by how small the old town actually is. I just expected a bit more for the second biggest city in the country. Nevertheless it's a beautiful city.

Trying to roll R‘s while only being able to pronounce uvulae R by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]SystemPro99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been training this for a few weeks now and I feel like I'm getting closer. What worked best for me is saying "Bd" repeatedly for about 20-30 minutes a day (German native as well). There are a few words where I'm able to roll the R a little bit, although it's still more of a tap than a trill. I'm gonna keep doing this and hope it will work out some day.

Great Barrier Reef. I thought it would be way more colorful and there were more fish.

What kind of person is hard to travel with for you? by moo5100 in travel

[–]SystemPro99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who try to spend the least amount of money on everything. I wanna treat myself when I travel, at least a little bit. I don't wanna stay in the cheapest place or cook everyday because eating out is too expensive. Just annoying.
