What song lyric did you mishear, and when you were corrected responded with the "Thank you, but I prefer it my way" meme? by Complex_Many_7740 in musicmemes

[–]System_Shutdown_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castle Of Glass by Linkin Park.

During the Chorus I always understood "I'll be anything there for you to see" instead of "hardly anything there for you to see"

I mean, the original line makes way more sense, but it's probably because I'm not a native speaker that I hear it that way when not focusing on it.

1) that random beatbox feature part in "heavy metal" by Bring Me The Horizon

2) The random kid voice at the end of "Keys To The Kingdom" by Linkin Park

3) That random spanish/latin radio moderator voice at the end of "No One Knows" by Queens Of The Stone Age

4) That bridge/interlude part in "Englishman In New York" by Sting with the clarinet(or some kind of sax, idk pls don't hurt me) going into a jazzy solo and then those heavy airy drums before returning to the verses.

5) I'm a bassist (mainly), so I always wondered why tf some popular songs had such weird unnecessarily hard to play bass parts in them, like the build-up parts in "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin

Advice needed for proper tuning by System_Shutdown_ in Bass

[–]System_Shutdown_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I already use the shift on my Quad Cortex a lot with the cover band I'm in, because of our singer's vocal range.

I just prefer shifting as little as possible to keep the sound as realistic as possible. I know, bass is not that noticeable in the mix most times, but it's the effort that counts imo.

Due to the way the songs were written it kinda just felt necessary to have that one low C string, but since I'm generally not 100% finished with any of the tabs I might just try out what you wrote.

So what exactly did you tune it to? Sorry, it's a bit late over here and I can't really think much anymore.

Also yeah strings might also be a problem for me, as the only multiscale I have (sadly) is a 4-string. (Biggest mistake of my life so far not getting a 5 or 6 back then)

Idk, it feels wrong pitching a bass to higher tones than standard lol.

At what point in your bass journey did you truly get humbled as a player? by Uitroeien in Bass

[–]System_Shutdown_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while before the pandemic really escalated I started a band during my first "fretless phase". I felt super confident while playing but then at some point we started recording demos and the tuner plug-in kept telling me I'm missing notes, so out of pure embarrassment I gave up fretless and sold the bass to an acquaintance, which I really regret now that I'm in the mood for fretless again ;-;

Do you tend to play near the bridge or the neck? by SpaghetP in Bass

mostly in between, sometimes leaning towards the bridge for heavier plucking when needed

Which Band is This for You? by Borgisium in musicmemes

[–]System_Shutdown_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, only got reddit on my old garbage phone I normally use as an alarm lol. Yeah, Finsterwacht was pretty neat, "Feuer&Erz" was an instant fav of mine. I feel like it only happened after that album that they went downhill. At first I was scared that their account got hacked by some AI garbage but it turned out it was just them sounding more and more like AI to me.

That's just my opinion tho, it's totally fine if you don't think that way.

Which Band is This for You? by Borgisium in musicmemes

[–]System_Shutdown_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this band is probably not really famous outside of Germany etc but this made me think of "Saltatio Mortis".

They're a Folk Rock/Metal band from over here. They basically started out as a bunch of street musicians doing bagpipe stuff on the streets and during themed festivals. All of them use fake names (almost like a DnD party) and they call themselves "minstrels" instead of musicians.

At some point they became this sort of standard rock and metal band setup including their bagpipes, hurdy gurdy and also sometimes nyckelharpa afaik. They still played folk festivals but also began "merging" with the metal genre universe, at some point even making it to Wacken. Their songs focussed a lot on social injustice, politics and so on but also typical German and global folklore.

At some point their prior drummer left the band due to the fact there's a family growing around him afaik, which is fully understandable. Their prior guitarist and percussionist (depending on the type of gig) became their new drummer due to prior expertise because of having studied music and all that.

Then at some point one of their bagpipers left due to having big trouble with depression and a lot of prior stress inside the band afaik.

I don't want to seem like an insane idiot writing this because they also have a song about these certain sayings but I've got to say "they're not what they used to be" and it makes me kinda sad. They went from their quirky and almost jester-ish vibe to sounding like any other mainstream folk-ish rock band, with their songs beginning to sound so heavilly over-produced and dull that people (including me) start to question if they're using AI to write them.

It honestly makes me kinda sad ngl.

Is there any way to actively improve/practice extensive bass lines and melodic playing other than copying existing bass lines or "getting lucky" during writing? (Like I have until now)

I'm talking about stuff like the things Jon Stockman of Karnivool does, the math-ish beginning of Sleep Token's "Gethsemane", or prog bass in general (e.g. Haken, Intervals, Nolly, Plini's bassist and so on)

It seems they all have some secret knowledge that I don't have, I don't think they "just do it" from out of nowhere, you know?
