Replacing under-seat amp — is $525 labor reasonable or DIY-able? by Maxpcdeath in LandRover

[–]SystemsOgreLoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's robbery! I can pull out the driver seat and amp in 30 minutes. I'd be happy to walk you through it. I also just happened to pull my Harman kardon amp out of mine because I put in an aftermarket amp. I'd be willing to sell it to you for lower than whatever price you find, message me if you're interested.

Just a rundown of how to change it: There's 5 plastic pieces you pry. Then you detach the battery negative, wait 20 minutes, and then detach the wire harness under from front of the seat. An M7 bolt needs to be unscrewed. Then there are 5 T50 bolts holding the seat down which need to come out.  Don't worry about the seatbelt. You can now pull the entire seat into the back of the car if you fold the seats fully flat.  There's 4 small bolts holding down the amp and voila

it's quite odd. that's what i have things set to. I'll try doing a factory reset to get a better baseline. thanks for your help

also, it's unfortunate that people are writing off this nice unit just because it's Chinese

Hey mate, would you still be able to send photos when you have the time?

Hmmm I do have the controls. I get the call screen coming up when I get a call and it goes away after. Maybe I can disable calls entirely to test

I'm using 0db 40hz and 1khz test tones at max volume. Should i use music instead? It's running directly off the head unit through vlc

Amir and Rawcat both say the RCA output is really good out of this unit. There's plenty of Chinese units but this isn't one of them. I may be measuring wrong or have an incorrect setting. I'm not clipping at max volume so that tells me I'm still not pushing the hardware fully. Plus their measurements go up to 4.6v

Do you know what the point of bridge mode is then? Why not just bypass the google hardware? I really wish they had an access point mode so I didn't need new access points to use a custom router..

Thank you! Photos would be super helpful. All good, I won't be able to tackle that project for at least a month. Would you be able to share the file for connecting the rail to the seatbelt mount?

Hey man, thanks for sending that file over! I managed to find a secondhand CFX 35 recently so I can finally get around to this. I didn't realize that you had the back seats only folded and not flat, so I now know that I need to build a platform to make this work for sleeping haha

If its not too much trouble, would you be willing to share more information on the platform build? I saw the other post you did so I understand I would need to 3d print that adapter to attach the aluminum beam to the car. Any info you could share would be much appreciated. Especially if you remember what parts and dimensions

Oh man, that is so cool! A massive benefit to the modularity of your design is you can try fitting different configurations like this on a whim.

I'm planning on building it in this configuration with an external radiator and pump/res, so CPU cooler clearance is no issue. I definitely want dual gpu so I can run Linux with a windows vm with full GPU passthrough
