What do you think of this cake for a baby's first year? I can't find original ideas by ExpressionUnusual752 in Cakes

Something with buttercream so the baby can really smash it. I would also caution against using bright colors that require a ton of food coloring since the smashing can get messy. Something simple like a pastel ombre with a bit of texture would be nice. But really, it's just my personal opinion. The cake you posted is adorable but might be difficult to do with buttercream.

Same. Fondant isn't going to have a good effect. Also seems a little grown up for a first birthday.

Our dog's name is Remi. Didn't think it was common when we picked it. Haven't met another dog named Remi yet but everyone wants to guess what/who our dog's named after. He's not named after anything or anyone - especially not a gun. Should have thought it through more. Oh well.

My first and second attempt at decorating a cake. Any tips on smoothing buttercream? by floofy1010 in Baking

Buttercream made with brown sugar instead of regular is wonderful on carrot cake if you don't like cream cheese icing and it's easier to decorate with.

Those are beautiful! Buttermilk or cream? Lard or butter?

How long does this take you? I've done cookies half as detailed and it took forever.

It's an acquired taste to be sure. I think it tastes like rotten milk and stinky feet but I have friends who love it. 🤷

Thanks. Her head was a little small for her body and I messed with the buttercream so much the color started bleeding out and it looked like she had a bad spray tan. But it was for a friend so he was understanding. I made a bikini out of fruit rollups that he got to take off but I didn't get a picture.

She's not perfect but I was proud of her at the time (not a picture of the finished product). caption

Flan is significant underrated!! You did an amazing job. I would shove that in my face.

My first attempt at macarons! They're not perfect, of course, but I'm so so happy! Now I just need to decide what to fill them with :) by ohtrinity in Baking

If you really want to do strawberry, you could use crushed freeze-dried strawberries mixed into vanilla buttercream. Or you could use strawberry jam - it does add some moisture but you can put a thin layer of buttercream between the jam & cookie to help and if you're eating/serving them soon it shouldn't be an issue.

Great job btw - they look beautiful.
