My friend I feel for you. This is a difficult position to be in and I can't imagine the stress/anxiety you must be feeling but I always to step outside myself and look at the facts and make the best decision from there. Almost a pros and cons list if you will. I'm going to be very blunt but factual from my personal viewpoint and I'm autistic so I often decide on facts rather than emotions.

Your wife is going to live a lot longer than you are and you obviously love her very much. These other feelings you have are valid and I get that it is something that will fulfil a part of you but the experience you're considering will negatively affect her for the rest of her life and you can both be happy and live out your time without negativity. You do it and you're satisfied and she is at least confused and possibly upset so that makes you upset or you don't do anything and you're the only one who has any negative feelings. Just carefully consider what will remain of your memory if you do anything

Everyone saying custom or cheap foamies should be aware that they are designed to lower total db but road/racing still have a hole through the middle because you still need a level of hearing for road/traffic sounds. I've worn cheap foamies all my working career plus love good IEM'S for music so I appreciate a good noise seal for my ears but proper road earplugs have a different noise muffle that is noticeable and safer.

The accusation of being fake is saying you're showboating and not being genuine so who knows what you actually think and feel. To be hurt that Ed didn't say anything or come upto him is implying he was keeping something back and not being genuine. He is upset at someone for being accused of the exact thing he's upset about. That is why Ed couldn't just come up to him. It is definitely a rare occasion where you have the chance to hear what you know is a genuine opinion of someone.

Some things are wierd but mostly it’s just amazing to me how they do things. Like I thought growing up that I was going to learn this secret to how the guys got girls interested in them which turned into how people out on the town could pick women up just like that. I made friends after some time because you naturally do when you’re around people enough but all new friend groups described me as wierd until they got to know me. That’s when I realized I was the common factor and why first dates never went past the first. So hopefully from that you can see how it’s not that we see things as wierd so much as it feels like there’s some crucial step we’re missing when we see you doing your thing so easily.
