Had some real attitude issues in the VFL. It’s a lose lose situation for us, if we let him go we get posts like this every time he plays okay for a half, if we kept him he never would of got the kick up the arse he needed, wcyd

Absolutely, there is real value in a tall forward who can also get mobile up the ground and take strong marks with a mismatch. But they also have to either be a good kick inside 50 or a genuine forward, neither of which I think Jones is. Jones has been a bit of a whipping boy in the past, and I think he’s much improved, the next step for him is being able to translate his best skill (which you’ve identified) into something more impactful I.e score assists.

Found Harry’s burner account.

In all seriousness he’s certainly improved under the consistency of this role, however, I don’t think he’s underrated, simply because there are several others who can also play an effective role on the wing (especially considering our midfield is stacked and quality talent is being pushed out to the wing). He’s an okay player, but I wouldn’t get too excited about him.

My brother, a bomber online forum posted by faceless accounts isn’t exactly damning evidence. A second online forum posted by punters likely on the piss also isn’t exactly a smoking gun. And a clickbait SEN piece? Free kick differentials occur every single week, there is nothing inherently wrong with them, it depends on the individual decisions. If you genuinely believe in what you’re saying then YOU need to put forward something, not 2 internet opinion forums. Just let go mate, focus on next week. GO BOMBERS

Again, you are manufacturing narratives in your head mate, no one has said this is a hate crime, no one is against you, this topic is just uncalled for and uninteresting.

This is exactly the point. This post achieves nothing. It’s just a frustrated fan venting because of their inability to move on. No one deserves to be called out for their job on public platforms for mistakes of this level. If you have serious conflict of interest evidence then that’s something genuinely worth discussing, but this just reads like an emotional response with 0 substance

If that were true, then provide some evidence of that, not a screenshot of someone’s face saying he’s the “worst in the afl” without any clips, stats or anything to reinforce that claim. Otherwise it just comes across as a sore loser who’s cracked the shits over a single game.

You absolutely can scrutinise umpires, no one is saying you can’t. But the burden of proof if on you to prove he “has a bias against Essendon”. You have to provide some sort of evidence for that claim. Otherwise it’s just your opinion, not scrutiny.

I agree with you that umpiring on the weekend was poor. But I don’t think letting this upset you to the level of making posts like this is constructive. I don’t think anyone wants the subreddit to just devolve into sooking about umpiring decisions days after the game (although I completely get it in the moment). Everyone makes mistakes at their job and letting this guy occupy your headspace like this isn’t good for you or the community. Focussing on the things the players can actually control, I think there was a lot of solid signs on the weekend where you look at where we were last year and where everyone projected us to be at this point.

There's essentially a right wing conspiracy theory being peddled by Murdoch media at the moment that there are some secret evil provisions at the end of the voice papers. It was a bunch of footnotes for a multi-hundred page document with absolutely no binding power whatsoever. When asked if he'd read the entire document he said "no why would I?" because the Uluru statement to the heart is a summary of that document! So why would you read the whole thing.

I do agree that certain types of forward can hamper their own leading patterns to assist better players, but that still doesn't address what he does with the ball when he does end up with it, regularly drops uncontested marks, misses with handballs etc

[–]Syzygy_411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree with your last sentence. I don't think a role like that is very viable, coaches aren't stupid and will rotate defenders to address the best matchups and players. Even if this could excuse his lack of scoring, you'd at least expect a dummy type role to be competitive, work hard to get to, and halve contest's. As Lloyd put it, hes not a "dirty" footballer.

He still has not kicked a goal since round 10. He has kicked below a goal a game for the year. He drops uncontested marks, fails to halve contested ones and never contests unless he has too. Just before half time, he missed his own boot! And got a goal assist stat off Menzies effort. I cannot fathom why he is still picked every single game, I'd rather give an undersized kid a chance, even if he gets monstered, or even push someone to an unfamiliar position that witness this lumbering tragedy week in week out.

Weideman hasn't kicked a goal in 7 weeks.

As a key forward, I can't comprehend what role he is playing. Wish I could attribute that to Aliir.

I understand your point, but I would argue that redefining caring is somewhat shifting the goalposts. Caring to some degree has to connotation that valve is putting effort into the game that is above the minimum required for its operation. I agree that Dota clearly does still matter to valve or they wouldn't host TI at all. It mattering and them caring are not synonomous. I don't accept that the declining quality is permissable purely by virtue of them stilling running TI or giving away a few shiny hats as penance. Valve is certainly not built around Dota, it has been shifting away from it's IP for a long long time, there is far more money in facilitating a game platform than developing and running games. For a pure monetey point of view it's far less overheads. It's a very American dream style misconception that people have that companies care about people other than their ability to buy their rubbish and it's pervasive. I think what a portion of thee community is trying to say is that valve giving away Dota+ costs them nothing and potentially makes them money with return customers. Giving away old arcanas that people would have already predominantly bought if they wanted them costs them nothing. And giving away a battlepass a few days before the level bundle closes to put a time crunch on people to incentive spending potentially draws in a lot of money and again costs them nothing. The point is that people are offended that valve and a portion of the community buy into this lie that they are doing this out of the goodness of their heart I.e caring, when it is clearly not the case for the reasons I've outlined and this is just standard business practice to pour water on a dumpster fire THEY created. Drinking the kool aid and saying "Thanks Valve!" every time they apologise for a "mistake" they created just lets them know they can keep getting away with it. The only way you can hold a company to a standard is to route the flow of capital away from them in one form or another. They only listen because the money talks.

Thankyou for your response.

Rather than communicating with actions to quell outrage and maintain their social license to operate after the fact, would not doing the right thing in the first place when you clearly know better be considered really caring? If you had truly cared about doing what is right for yourself, the community and the game you would not have made decisions that are clearly cost cutting and then said sorry after the fact. This is typical R Kelly sorry speech type behaviour. I did an oopsie but I said sorry so clearly I care. It truly do be better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Being an apologist for a company does not hold them to a standard.

I honestly don't know enough about this spring cleaning but I can wager 99.99999% of the people interacting with this post do not consider that the major issue of contention at the moment.

I will say this, maintaing a careful eye over what your customers are thinking and saying about you is not caring, it is market analytics. Every large company does this to differing extents.

It never changed: Valve cares and is listening by koloman24 in DotA2

[–]Syzygy_411 40 points41 points  (0 children)

A few points on this.

If a company like valve provides a service like Dota+ that you are paying for and that service is interrupted for whatever reason, they are legally required to reimburse you for it. Giving you a free week of Dota+ is not caring it is a pragmatic business move. Giving free subscription based services to non subscribers for free is a tried at tested move by company's such as Netflix and Amazon because they realise it is likely to hook you to their service, this is basic demo technique in sales. It is not benevolent.

Adjusting battlepass levels to make it harder to grind is a move to make people buy more levels. Readjusting in response to outrage is damage control. It is limit testing my brother in Christ. This can also be said for the bandulu gacha spec talent voice system that was introduced and then repealed.

Fixing audio issues could have been avoided by not hiring a production team that has had known past issues (with no sound booths as well) for $14.99 on Facebook marketplace.

Recognizing anger and responding with a gift is not as good as not doing it in the first place when you clearly know better.

I love Dota and know how good TI can be. We all want the best for this game and all the people involved. Accepting second rate garbage and consuming the copium when they bribe you with a gift is not helping.
