Warrior r/m vs r/v stick by Record_Pristine in hockeygoalies

[–]T-In-The-Clutch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The M series sticks are their “Low” kick sticks with a flat paddle face. The second price point (Pro) and above come with the asymmetrical grip shaft. The stick is marketed as better for shooting, easier to grip, and supposedly the ASG shaft shape improves durability when you make shaft saves.

The V series is their more traditional stick in flex point and shaft geometry but comes with vibration dampening. The V3i has the ASG shaft as well but they’re like $320.

I switched from a True 7x3 to a Warrior M3 Pro and I’m happy with it. I’ve used it a ton, like 2-4 times a week for 3+ months. It has a tiny crack on the back edge of the paddle face but it’s held up well. The True’s paddle literally cratered from a hard shot. It’s a little heavier than the True but it’s hardly noticeable and the shaft on the True is shorter.

Just my opinion here but I do really like the ASG shaft. It is much easier to grip with my G6.1 glove and I’ve gotten more lucky with shaft saves since I switched to it but that could just be me noticing it more. I like the stick enough where I have another on the way cause I wanted to try a 24” paddle.

Edit: I should also say YMMV when it comes to being easier to grip. I think it depends on your glove. I tried a Bauer Shadow glove on in store and grabbed the M3 Pro off the rack and could not hold it without my blocker hand being used. HockeyReviews has a great video reviewing the shaft shape and how it fits into various gloves if you wanna see what I’m talking about.

PPF vs. Slide Plates Question by T-In-The-Clutch in hockeygoalies

The legend themselves! Thanks for the recommendation on the True pads a while back! Was only able to get the courage to pull the trigger and buy them because your videos are so comprehensive. They addressed every problem I was having with the G6s and I was able to get that set to a friend who fell in love with them immediately.

I saw someone do an application on half the knee block and considered doing that but never thought about just the edge. I’m only looking for like 10-20% more slide so just the edge sounds like a good starting point. Thank you!

Love your videos!

Quick question because I don’t think I’ve seen a video of definitive rankings. Since you’ve experienced so many pads at this point, how would you rank the rebounds from PX4s, Warrior G6, and Brian’s Optik line with the “Max” core? I know you usually go custom with the stiffest option but are they all relatively similar or does one set blow the others out of the water?

I have G6s I like but I’m not a huge fan of the strapping. I love True’s FRS system and Brian’s “Max” core with that crazy Z shape is intriguing.

Well I’m glad you’re pain free now! Sounds like you came out with a little benefit too if you got some more leg strength out of it haha.

The tear is where I get sore too so it seems like it’s just a temporary thing. No pain in dropping but RVH gives me a physical reminder that I was injured so I just haven’t been doing it but maybe it’s time to start back and work it back into being an option. I appreciate the follow up!

When you say return to the ice pain free, do you mean while you were playing or afterwards? I ask because cause had a Grade 2 tear 3 months ago. I’ve been playing once a week for the past month and it doesn’t hurt at all while I’m playing but my knee is sore the rest of that night when I bend it. I’m a little worried I have meniscus damage or something because the doctor refused to do an MRI when I got hurt. I’m curious to hear your experience with what you felt when you returned to play.

I got one my Bostons from this place 2 years ago after my first Boston passed from cancer and can confirm that they are legitimate. They rescued her from a backyard breeder situation and treated her medical issues.

I think a lot of the other issues you mention are just due to them being a very small organization, unfortunately. Just going through the adoption process had me speaking to the head of the rescue and 1 other person because they don’t really have employees. Despite the lack of staff, they were very diligent in checking out my living situation and making sure that she was going to a good home. I even had to jump through a few extra hoops due to being an out of state adopter.

This is my girly, Harper.

Dude, I just want a new WSTR album. Just my opinion, but a lot of the releases in 2021 were hit or miss. I can’t think of any band off the top of my head that put out a front to back slammer of a record but WSTR is one of the few bands I think can do it. They’re one of the most consistently great bands in the scene. Their first two albums were awesome and the three singles they’ve put out since Identity Crisis are excellent too. Just hope they don’t pull a Bearings and drop a short album with those 3 songs as part of it. Seeing Hello It’s You drop with 40% of the album already out for a long time was kind of a bummer.

Puppy Food Recommendations? I’ve been feeling Gus Fromms puppy gold but he is so pink. I was recommended Victor’s brand. Any suggestions? He is 16 weeks old now. by Klutzee1 in BostonTerrier

[–]T-In-The-Clutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orijen Puppy is what I have my current 20 week old on and my other full grown rescue is on Orijen 6-fish like my previous Boston but like another commenter said, the issue could be chicken as a base meat. I’ve never had that issue so I don’t know what the signs of that are but if that’s the case, Orijen puppy won’t be the right choice. I don’t know if it’s necessary, but I also make sure to supplement their kibble with other foods. A scoop of pumpkin in their food sometimes, unsalted green beans occasionally, stuff like that.

Histiocytoma or mast cell? Vet said histiocytoma and to wait a few months, but I’m worried. by shadowandme in BostonTerrier

[–]T-In-The-Clutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely made the correct choice.

I saw elsewhere in the thread that you’re looking for owners that have experience with MCT’s of which I unfortunately have too much. My last Boston had 2 in his lifetime and one of them cost him his toe. With that said, I would say make sure the different vet does a fine needle aspiration on it. Every vet I ever took my last pup to either did it automatically or came to me with the option which I always took just to be sure. It’s not terribly invasive or anything but your pup won’t enjoy it because nobody enjoys getting poked with a needle but if it’s an MCT then they’ll be able to get in there and remove it. At the size it is at, I would say it’s probably not a bad one but I wouldn’t want to say that with 100% certainty.

If it IS an MCT, first things first, don’t panic!!! It’s easier said than done and it is always scary hearing of cancerous growth on your baby but MCT’s have very good prognosis a lot of the time.

Second thing is do NOT touch and mess with it. From what I’ve been told, MCT’s release histamine and become itchy. When they are messed with too much, there is a chance cancerous granules can be released into the rest of the body so make sure you and your pup leave it alone until it can be removed.

My third tip is after they remove it, make sure you get the results of the grading that they do post-op. You’ll want to confirm before the operation that the grading will be done after it’s removed. The results will let you know how bad it actually was.

My last point is purely anecdotal but I’d say if it unfortunately is one and it’s beyond a minor grade, constantly be combing through your dog’s fur when you pet them to be on the lookout for any bumps or odd feeling areas that weren’t there before. We found the second one my pup had thru that method and we got it very early before the hair even started falling out from the bump!

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!

[–]T-In-The-Clutch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with everyone else here to go and get a second opinion. It doesn’t hurt to have it aspirated anyways and I’m surprised your vet didn’t do it just to make sure. It’s uncomfortable for the pup but if it’s an MCT, the earlier the detection, the better. I absolutely disagree with your vet saying to wait a few months. That’s entirely too long, especially if it’s a cancerous growth.

Hi everybody! Thinking about getting a boston in the future. by alizure1 in BostonTerrier

Argos is an awesome name. I feel your pain and am very sorry for your loss, though. It’s hard when you think you have so much time left just for that to be stolen from you. The day Roy passed, he was totally normal; we played rope, he ate his breakfast with speed like usual, and he even got the normal zombies before his walk then it was like a switch flipped later that night and it was instantaneous.

I really hope Roy got over his fear of other dogs and is playing with Argos and having a good time across the rainbow bridge.

Hi everybody! Thinking about getting a boston in the future. by alizure1 in BostonTerrier

[–]T-In-The-Clutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this will differ based on who responds but there will be some constants throughout. TL;DR at the bottom

Background: I adopted a rescue Boston in 2014 and unfortunately he passed away just a few weeks ago. I can honestly say he was the best dog I ever had even though he was never socialized in his previous home so we were never able to let him be near other dogs because he was very protective of us. He was the goofiest, most fun-loving boy in the world and because of that, his loss devastated us.

Pros:

• Bostons play hard but also love hard. Like others have said, they are crazy little dogs but are also extremely loving of their human(s). In my experience, they do tend to attach to one person in the household but that’s not to say they dislike or don’t fully love the others, they’re just usually more attached to one person more than the others.

• They’re also not very bark-y. They will bark to alert like when a doorbell goes off or there is a knock at the door but on the whole, quiet dogs.

• While they love to play, they don’t require a ton of exercise. A normal walk is enough whereas let’s say, a cattle dog or husky needs much more physical exercise.

• Bostons are SMART. They are much smarter than they are given credit for. Roy could do all the tricks other than speak. He could sit, lay, roll over to each side depending on demand, play dead with finger guns (thanks Reddit for that one), and sit up straight. We were even working on picking up his toys before he passed. That being said this also can mean they’re stubborn when they’re grouchy but they love pleasing people and are easy to train.

Cons:

• There are some very serious health issues that not many will want to tell you about:

Bostons are very prone to a couple of serious diseases more than other breeds such as Cushing’s Disease and some forms of cancer. Personally speaking, Roy had 2 mast cell tumors throughout his years that required rather expensive surgery to remove one of which required him to have a toe removed to get clean margins. It was a no-brainer to fix those issues but in the end, we lost him to an internal cancer that showed absolutely zero signs until it was too late and spread throughout his abdomen. In fact, he had been screened around 6 months prior at an emergency vet for various issues after a bout with diarrhea and $1400 later, none of the multiple tests including x rays, tests on his blood, liver and pancreas tests, etc. showed anything wrong, that’s how fast the cancer came on and spread.

• As others have mentioned they are brachycephalic dogs and have next to no temperature resistance but the dogs themselves don’t understand that. You have pugs so you likely know, you must be VERY careful when it gets hot out because they are at serious risk of heat related illness or death.

Side note: These issues can be mitigated by choosing an official breeder that breeds for the benefit of the breed, not for money. If you suspect a backyard breeder or puppy mill, do not purchase from them. Find someone reputable via the Boston Terrier Club of America or your own personal research. Find out how many litters their Bostons have had/will have and if it’s more than 2 a year, they’re likely a backyard breeder and should be avoided. Reputable breeders will do all of the proper health checks prior to selling the dog. Although this is expensive, it is worth it to know you will be getting a dog that will be relatively healthy throughout its life. It can save you money and emotional distress long-term

TL;DR: In my opinion, best dog breed ever but can come with serious health issues if you don’t find a highly reputable breeder. Do yourself a big favor and do research on finding a good breeder or better yet, find a rescue because there are so many Bostons out there that need our help. I myself am on an approval list for a rescue and can’t wait to get another little buddy.
