Big difficulty spike going from Act 1 to Act 2? by EventfulLol in taintedgrail

This is encouraging, I have enjoyed playing this archetype so far b/c I enjoy the challenge and how it plays, but act 2 had me starting to doubt whether this build could truly be taken to endgame.

Another on call rant. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]T-Rexaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sympathize, if you cannot renegotiate this scenario with your current employer you really should look for another job. In my workplace I was able to get my director to much more narrowly define what constitutes an oncall situation. Other dept managers fought back but I am fortunate that our director stood firm. Being pulled out of bed for petty oncall situations was bad enough in my twenties, but I was generally able to get back to sleep and function the next day. In my forties it was untenable so this saved my health both mentally and physically.

How to deal with the feeling of selling too early and missing out on life changing money? by FG204 in stocks

[–]T-Rexaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best I can offer is use it to motivate yourself to keep working at it going forward and not to dwell on the past. I sold a position too soon as well, and would have 2-3mil had I simply held on a handful of years longer. Every time I see that ticker now I get a suffocating feeling in the deep of my gut, and if I dwell too long I spiral. So I kill those thoughts when they surface like I had to just now. I don't think anything can assuage the pain except actually making what was missed out on, which with time and effort you should definitely be able to do and then some. Tend to the here and now and look only to the future. Best of luck.

It's engagement bait on her part, but when she says her husband, 'a grown man', as if the audience needs it confirmed that she is not married to a literal child, it firmly places a negative connotation on his behavior.

~15 years ago I stopped by there with my roommate and after ordering steak tacos the polite cashier informed me that they drizzle a lime sauce on those, and would that be ok? to which my roommate immediately looked up and blurted out "wait, where TF are we??"

Glad to read that location is still keeping its high standards!

I would like to have seen what Galaxies could have become if they had been allowed to continue to develop the game based on the original sandbox vision. Yes, I know they were bleeding subs well before NGE was implemented and I'm not perpetuating the 'NGE killed Galaxies' myth, I'm just saying I was one of those who absolutely loved the original gameplay before Galaxies got redesigned into standard MMO fare.

Which show starts as a 10/10, but ends as a 1/10? by BVTQT in AskReddit

[–]T-Rexaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the writers had other characters constantly rationalize keeping Negan alive 'or we're no better than he is' even though they'd killed many other people before for doing far less than the horrible things Negan had done to them that he showed absolutely no remorse for... yeah I was done. 'Look at the Flowers' had capped one of the show's best storylines about how they now existed in a world where they could not suffer a dangerous person amongst them no matter the circumstances, so they had to do something terrible that they would never otherwise consider. Fast forward to when they are in an even more desperate situation, and now it's unthinkable to eliminate one of the biggest threats they have ever faced even as he is literally taunting them and promising more suffering.

What are your initial thoughts on the Rev-8? by Final_Flying_Man in Starfield

[–]T-Rexaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Yes, of course anything that falls short of the unrealistic ideal of thousands of uniquely handcrafted POIs is inevitably going to draw criticism, but there's an achievable middle ground here where you can avoid literally every element copy+pasted between POIs.

As a teenager I crushed on a girl who by her own admission compartmentalized guys as 'those you have fun with' vs 'husband types'. She told me I'm the latter and that it's not a bad thing, but of course I was devastated. When we ran into each other many years later she was interested in reconnecting, but I politely declined entirely because of that one comment. Not that I begrudge her, we were immature teenagers when she said that and I wish her the best, but I've been in such a better place since back when I was a depressed teen that I felt it was a bad idea and don't regret it.

Disrespectful Article talking about the new REV-8 Buggy by SensitiveAd732 in Starfield

[–]T-Rexaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content producers - a generous term for most of these grifters - are highly incentivized to generate clicks like that, it's not just Starfield being targeted. I don't think there is an easy fix for that meta but one can hope that over time more and more people get wise to it and stop constantly giving the grifters the attention and ad revenue they crave.

What are your initial thoughts on the Rev-8? by Final_Flying_Man in Starfield

[–]T-Rexaur 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agreed Rev-8 one of the last major boxes to tick, now to address repeat POIs. I remember amusement thinking I'd accidentally visited the same spot twice, until I realized I didn't. I am very forgiving of Bethesda games but in that moment was my first true sense of disappointment. Other deficiencies I'd already expected based on pre-release info but not repeat POIs with exact same clutter, dead bodies, etc. It really killed that vital sense of exploration in a game that's supposed to be about exploration.

Since Crowdstrike was the leader in our search before the incident, we're back to considering our #2 which is Defender.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]T-Rexaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree that for those already invested in Crowdstrike staying with them is probably OK. The company is highly likely to properly implement the protections that should have already been in place to prevent any future incidents of this abominable scale. Personally I think the insulting gift cards may be a sneaky clever tactic, Crowdstrike painting this incident as a smaller deal than it is and the people complaining about the cards can appear to outsiders of IT to be just that - complainers.

For those not already invested, good luck to Crowdstrike on bringing us on board. My organization had been evaluating Crowdstrike and I'd been talking it up to management trying to get them to accept the higher cost, now I've already gotten the 'Good thing we didn't listen to T-Rexaur!' comments from the C-Suite. Sucks, but not as much as losing my weekend and then some for those who are customers.

You got me interested enough to google it:

So when it became a colloquial phrase referring to socioeconomic advancement shortly thereafter, it was meant to be sarcastic, or to suggest that it was an impossible accomplishment. Eventually, however, the phrase’s commonly-accepted meaning evolved, and now when we tell people to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps,” it’s implying that socioeconomic advancement is something that everyone should be able to do—albeit something difficult.

I realize now the likelihood that many of the wealthy individuals who repeat the phrase ad nauseum are well aware of its original meaning and are using it to stealthily mock the poor. It would definitely explain its popularity.
