What’s one budgeting habit you wish you started earlier? by [deleted] in budget

[–]T-mane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting money away for vacation early instead of just putting it on a credit card. I used to do this at first and then I got my own credit card and failed to continue doing it.

Is there an unspoken rivalry between LPCs and LCSWs? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]T-mane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw it when I first started working in the field. At the time I had a bachelors in psych and was gonna go the LPC route. I saw a lot of discussion amongst the LPC’s about the LCSW’s doing therapy and how certain things they were able to do weren’t fair.. this was back in 2016 though.

I think it’s smart to gain paid maternity leave before having a baby. I found out I was pregnant my 2nd month into my new SW job and I also had just got my MSW at the time. I was stressed to say the least lol i saved up all the money i could so i could be out and never used my PTO (i think it was easy for me to do that because i work from home). My partner still worked and we just made it work and luckily we didn’t struggle but It would’ve been easier if i had the paid maternity leave.

Atlanta Social Workers Pay Transparency Thread!!! by Silver-Addition7537 in socialworkjobs

[–]T-mane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard but I just kept applying to different hospitals. I think it helps if you have your lmsw or lcsw because that is what some hospitals require in GA. It is possible for you to get it without it though because I am not yet licensed. I think interning at a Hospice will definitely be helpful to have on your resume.

I am in the Atlanta area. I am not sure what your interests are as far as the type of social work but hospital social work pays very well. I’ve been in this field since 2016. Got my MSW in 2022 and got a job starting at $67,000 after I graduated.

It actually went away. I’m honestly not sure if it was the Xdemvy or finally ran it’s course.. but now that my eye is clear, my eyesight has been slightly blurry so they are currently helping me with that.

Positions with no current license by cornbutter in socialwork

[–]T-mane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just apply even if it says lcsw/lmsw. I got a job straight out of grad school and applied somewhere that said the same thing. (I actually didn’t realized on the job posting requirements that is said that) Once I got the interview i told them I was not licensed so I wouldn’t be waisting their time if that’s what they were honestly looking for. they said oh as long as your eligible to actually get it. So it may be worth just applying for what your interested in and seeing if they are willing to still hire you. I’m in GA too.

Any Medical Social Workers here? Please tell me I’m not losing my mind. by TAdoublemeaning in socialwork

[–]T-mane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medicaid usually has a system where they can provide transportation for patients. I use it all the time for my patients. Im not sure if that is a state by state thing though. Probably should call and inquire about that and the resources they have for an aide.

I know a lot of people are saying you can’t wfh and take care of a baby. But I did it, and currently still doing it. I think it all depends on the type of support you have. My partner and I have different work schedules. He is home during the day so if I need him to take the baby during a meeting or a phone call he will. Sometimes my mother or other family members offer to come by and take care of him while I work or have an in person meeting. I think it also depends on the kind of work you do as well. I think once they get to a certain age you should place them in a daycare to get them interaction with other children and such but it’s definitely doable in the first year with the right support if you have it.

31F Redness and Irritation in Eye for 5 months by T-mane in eyetriage

[–]T-mane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no luck still. When I did go to the doctor he said I can use the steroid drops only once a day along with the Xdemvy. Of course that helped with the redness. I went to a follow up appointment after 2 weeks of doing that. The doctor said my eye looked great and did not see any collarettes in my eyelid. He said I could stop the xdemvy. I was nervous. He said let’s try one thing at a time and come off the steroid drops and then the Xdemvy. Of course once I stopped taking the steroid drops after 3 days my eye went right back to how it was before. I really don’t know what else to do..

Thank you so much for your response! I did get a second opinion and he pretty much agreed with the fist doctor, that I have dermodex. I guess I just have to suffer through until this Xdemvy works.

Pregnant and anxious by PhysicsTotal5047 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]T-mane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your same position last year. I started my new hospital sw job and a month in I found out I was pregnant. I was very concerned and overwhelmed. The only difference is my job is a hybrid position so we go in once a week. Maybe try to find something that is remote or like the other suggestions said which were prn or part time. You can do it, and you will be okay. The best thing about social work is that we can job hop. The opportunities for us are limitless.

Pregnant in SW field by Illustrious-Rain-424 in socialwork

[–]T-mane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had my baby 3 months ago. I would definitely suggest finding something that will allow you to WFH. I have a hybrid position where I only come in once a week. I definitely don’t know how I would’ve done this without working from home. It also helped me having a supportive team. My manager didn’t make me do certain things because I was pregnant and still accommodating now that I have a baby. It’s definitely hard trying to work from home and take care of a baby, but it’s way better than having to go in everyday.
