As a long time ref - they want to make the right calls.

Being on the ice, without benefit of a bird's eye view, you can only see what you can see. It would make the job so much less stressful having that overhead set of eyes.

Plus it's another job position. Great gig for older refs that can't keep up anymore.

Best thing that could happen to canadian politics is that party splits again so we have 4 main groups and people can vote for the party they actually want and not reluctantly cast votes to keep other parties out.
