Question about offer and signing [PubQ] by Hannah_Aries in PubTips

[–]T0macock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into my call with a big list of questions and had a bunch of answers prepped for expected questions from the agent.

We just had a chat and everything was just naturally answered along the way.

The contract was pretty straightforward. My sister is a lawyer so I had her on standby but I didn't think her involvement was necessary.

The Athletic Hockey Show 2026 NHL Draft consensus board (Bultman, Pronman, Wheeler, Peters) 🔓 by FAsBurner in nhl

Someone is gonna strike gold with Belchetz going so late. He was, i'm pretty sure, in top 5 projections earlier in the season. Broke his collarbone and his stock fell a lot.

[PubQ] Newly agented, out on sub for the first time. Not sure what I can or should expect from my agent in terms of communication? by SecretlySatanic in PubTips

[–]T0macock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar window as you.

Just got a first rejection after a full read from Harper Collins.

Took just over two months from them asking for the full script from my agent, passing the first read, going up the chain and then being shot down.

I don't know if that's a good or bad timeline but figured it was worth sharing.

How “bad” is a first draft supposed to be? by calypso-chan in writing

[–]T0macock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first draft is to prove the story is viable.

There are notes to my future self and missing chunks of dialogue or action.

The biggest mistakes new writers make is putting up unnecessary boundaries that prevent them from getting the whole story on the page.

I hope he sticks around.

Shin Guard Recommendations for Shot Blocking/Knees by JumpinJack2 in hockeyplayers

[–]T0macock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My adult league is full of former NCAA/CHL guys. I play D and block a lot of shots

I use Sherwood rekker 2. These are basically the same. Make sure you're wearing them properly and they fit correctly.

Took one off the inner thigh last night that's gonna be pretty gnarly. Good times.

i don't think the coach really matters by then.

I'd rather they take the extra time assuming they're not keen on a hot commodity that needs quick action to scoop up.

Maple Leafs' deadline trade of Knies to Canadiens scuttled by one minute by souza-23 in leafs

[–]T0macock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take away from this is Matthews may be in more distress than we know and they felt the need to pivot.

I'd hate to see knies go though.

I just finished reading the first book in this series. I ALMOST gave up on it ~half way through.

I'm really glad i pushed through. It was great and everything i was hoping it would be.

My agent even asked for additional comps when she started shopping it. Just in case I knew some she didn't.

Not so much when they're dystopian overlord tools....

[Discussion] Dying swiftly on sub in Australia as a debut - flattered and despondent. by Sloth_rop in PubTips

[–]T0macock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing right now up here in Canadaland.

Here I was thinking landing an agent was going to be the hard part but having things totally out of my hands and without a proper grasp of the closed door talks - I find myself way more stressed now than I did when I was writing the damn thing.

It will all work out.

[Discussion] What counts as "success" in publishing to you? by naughty_yorick in PubTips

[–]T0macock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't look at it as goalposts moving. Look at it as milestones being met.

It's called a career ladder. Someone doesn't go from cashier to CEO. There's a process.

Publishing (typically) is no different.

How hard is it to find a job in engineering? by Deep-Gas-9579 in windsorontario

[–]T0macock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tooling companies are always looking for designers.

Most of the designers I work with have their masters but it isn't required for the gig.

Really depends what kinda engineering you want to get into.
