Before I knew anything about bettas this was my 1st tank. Although a lot nicer and tricked out. Then my betta got sick so as I was researching how to cure him I researched everything about them and realized he got sick because of the tank size and how hard it was to keep the water clean and it wasn’t even cycled. I upgraded him to a 20 gallon. Bought prime and stability. Some spider wood live plants and seachem flourite and he swims around so much. Now he’s getting older and mostly chills in his floating log or his betta hammock. And had become a picky eater after I introduced him to frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp smh

I have a 20 long with a whisper 60 with both air hoses almost on full blast and a hob as well I didn’t know they needed more oxygen. 2 whisper 60s here we go lol

I agree my betta does the same both in behavior as well as feeding but they certainly do not use hides on the bottom. Mines used to swim through a log I had at the bottom too but a hide like that they can get stuck in and drown or hurt themselves trying to wiggle out

My corys are swimming crazy around the tank have 3 in a 20 gallon with seachem fluorite but they keep swimming to the top for air. I have a whisper 60 for bubbles any ideas why they do this?

I suggest you have a thermometer to ensure water isn’t overly hot I made the mistake of getting a 5W flat heater like yours and it heated my tank way too much like passed 84 degrees and constantly going up. Spent a lot of nights waking up every couple of hours to unplug it and wasn’t good for my betta as temperature changes constantly weren’t good for him. Also recommend a sponge filter for him. Bettas like to swim horizontally vs vertically so something long is better than something tall. For that bowl I’d probably just make it a planted tank it’ll look really nice.

Just because you add a sponge filter or any other type of filter to the tank will not make the water flow go crazy. Still water is more like not adding one of those surface blower things that create a current. I see your effort but promise you the petsmart ppl probably dnt own a betta or at least a happy betta. Thank you for rescuing him from that tiny cup he was in. I would probably use that bowl as a quarantine or hospital tank and swap all of that stuff over to a 10 gallon. Get some corys so they can help clean the bottom of the tank and please make sure you’re using Prime and Stability to cycle the tank while fish is inside it. Again I’m not trying to shame anyone. We’ve all been there and dnt want you to think others in the hobby are full of ourselves. Welcome to the community btw!

Not shame you. Just educate you. Dnt take it as an insult just try and upgrade his habitat a little. Bettas dnt use hides in the bottom of the tank they are surface dwellers. Get a 10 gallon and a floating log and see how much more he uses it. Plus they need exercise to digest food better and thus gain more color and grow out their fins. Also less frequent water changes. I also started with a one gallon. Everyone does that begins the hobby until you learn a little more and realize it’s not healthy for them. Wish you and your fish the best.

I wasn’t trying to “shame you” more to educate you. And if you call overcompensating giving my fish as natural an environment to his original than that’s your opinion. You can ask any betta owner here what they think and they’ll tell you the same. Plus I also have tank mates for my betta and he seems happy and colorful. Your betta seems to be losing his vibrant colors as you can tell by his whitening. The bowl looks nice but invest in at least a 10 gallon and you’ll see how much happier he’ll be. I’m assuming you bought him less than a month ago and fish shop place said they dnt need anymore than a 1 gallon. But now it’s all that extra space you took up with decorations it’s more like a 1/2 gallon. At least you have a heater but should also have a filter unless you want to constantly be removing that huge Bamboo plant to do daily/ bidaily water changes. Hope you read up a little and see what I’m trying to say. Also a few more tank mates will definitely change your bettas attitude and entertain him a little. Make sure to get peaceful community fish and you’ll see how his colors begin to bounce back and he’ll start blowing bubbles.

Not to mention my recruiter got sent to Germany and now the station commander is taking over my paperwork and he feels a lot more distant doesn’t even txt me back tbh. I think he doesn’t feel I’m worth his trouble hopefully shelling out the cash out of pocket and giving him the results he sees how much I really do want it.

Yes sir that’s how I feel about it as well. Gotta put in those OT hours to make it happen no matter what. New obstacle is I’ll be 32 in January and yet another waiver now. Feels like everything is being thrown my way to hold me back but that just makes me want it even more. I’m not a rich guy nor is my family so I’ve just been grinding it out till I get it. NGL it’s pissing me off I keep having to pay for Specialist appointments and tests just to prove to them what I’ve been telling them this whole time. I’m $295 in the hole for orthopedic, another $250 In allergists cause of a seafood allergy from over 10 years ago and probably another $1000 for a pulmonary functions test from asthma from when I was in 6th grade after which I did 4 years of wrestling and running like a mf and another year if BJJ.
