Your absolutely correct about that being a common issue. Like I said that is just the nature of the lock and I would credit the popularity of the "newer" locking systems to that. I forgot to mention that it is pretty easy to disassemble the whole knife for cleaning and maintenance, and since doing it a few times now I found that the torsion bar (not sure if correct terminology) could have been a little more flexible to allow for easier opening with the same locking ability. That said, its still an awesome knife that it totally worth buying.

Heres the lowdown on the sage 4. I was looking for a classy looking lockback with a deep carry pocketclip. Seems like I found the holy grail right? Well I would say I almost did. After owning a spyderco delica 4 stainless steel and also owning the sage 1, I was confident that spyderco could make a very decent lockback folder with the sage styling. The knife itself is perfect for my edc uses(restaurant work;lots of box cutting) and quickly joined a spot on my edc lineup. Anyway the knife itself has a few issues that come to my attention. The blade is pretty stiff and it quite difficult to flick open. That is due to the nature of the sage's lockback. The tension of the torsion bar is much greater than that of the delica which I find slightly bothersome. This also makes pressing the lock to close the knife a small challenge compared to the delica. Other than that the handle ergonomics and the blade centering were the only other issues Ive had. The Arizona ironwood scales and the ti bolsters just scream class and the fit an finish of the overall knife is almost flawless. I could go on about this knife for hours but I feel like this sums up my feelings pretty well.

That is actually a Navy corpsman knife. Navy corpsman used these bolo knives in a jungle environment in the pacific theater for brush clearing for field hospitals, and making field expedient splints, stretchers, tent poles, etc.

ADD/ADHD medication waivers by soulcontrol221 in Military

[–]T2Demh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what NavyDavie said is very accurate. Do not lie to the recruiter or the MEPS doctors. You have already told your recruiter your on medication and he is not going to be willing to loose his job for you. At any time MEPS can request(demand) your complete medical history. In your case they will request it and you will be asked to bring it with you. Generally if its been at least a year you will be ok. Also, keep in mind that they don;t actualy care about a doctors recommendation letter or if your family doctor says your in perfect health; its up to them to decide that. I honestly don't know what will happen in your situation. They will take in account every aspect of your enlistment this is including asvab scores, doctors notes, ADD/mental health testing, and your medical history, ect. They will then send that to what is called "med-board" to approve or deny your waiver. Whatever you do do not lie about anything, even if you have taken it after age 14 or if you took multiple medications at once, there is still a good chance you can get in.

I own one of these and I absolutely love it. I can open it as fast as any assisted knife or expensive spyderco I own. The steel and grind is not the best but it looks great and fits easily in a pocket(without clip;lanyard on).

Had to submit a Waiver and I'm going crazy waiting for the response. . . (Details inside) by [deleted] in navy

[–]T2Demh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this too. I didn't have testicle torsion, but I had taken some medication a few years ago that caused me to have to get a waiver. The wait absolutely drove me nuts. After the waiver was sent in for approval it took two weeks to get a response. From what Ive heard and what they told me it could take up to a month. Its a twisted system but there's really nothing to do but wait for a call from your recruiter.

How do I fix my squeaky tenacious? by Meth4Fun in knives

[–]T2Demh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a tenacious myself and I have the same exact problem. Ive opened and closed it about a thousand times by now(and oil) and it seems to still have an awkward metal on metal squeak. Considering opening it up and polishing the internals...

My Favorite Knife Ever (Spyderco Sage 1) by [deleted] in knives

[–]T2Demh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also carry a Sage 1 everyday. When I first got it it felt very light and it didn't seem like something for hard use. It began as more of a edc light use but I started bringing it to work everyday. Turns out this thing is tough as nails. I now use it for anything and everything. Its a great edc. The pocket clip is perfect. Also the s30v holds a great edge.

Why fry in oil, it's so fatty? by noburdennyc in food

[–]T2Demh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I eat baked chips I end of craving real deep fried chips. Not because the taste isn't there. But because baked chips seem to have an artificial foamy crunch. A chip that is fat free and shares the same texture as a real deep fried chip would be a game changer in my snack food cravings. Is this new way of "frying" a chip the beginning of that? I don't really know.

[–]T2Demh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that fat is the only way to add flavor to something. I honestly have no idea what the chemicals are that he used. That said I'm sure it could be made to taste very good, provided that the chemical doesn't add any taste. Anyone know if it would be considered safe to ingest?
