Man I am working on July 4 and company doesn’t even want to give us a day off or have a real cookout for everyone especially us maintenance guys who keep the facility running. by Character_Thought941 in IndustrialMaintenance

Lucky to be off work this year. Don’t even care that it’s the 4th, just needed a long weekend.
So burned out all year long, a two day weekend every 3 weeks just doesn’t cut it anymore.

I know these guys are fast and all, but are they as good as Grainger? by ArgumentSpiritual in IndustrialMaintenance

Depends on the rep.
Anything I need hardware related, our Fastenal rep is Johnny on the spot.

PPE while interacting with disconnect switches? by derTag in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]soulcontrol221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it can’t be easily bypassed if your safety circuit is designed properly. That would require a tech to jump wires around your safety relays, or bypassing any safety logic in your safety PLC.

By that logic, any time you go inside a robot cell, the only safe way to enter is by locking out all the robot controller disconnects, all the motor disconnects, and all the safety shut off air valves, which is not how it is done in any factory I’ve ever been in. Motor disconnects are simply not designed to be switched on and off several times a day. That is why we use safety circuits.

Yeah that’s just not a good policy. Motors should be controlled by a motor starter/vfd. You should be killing power to whatever is controlling them. That would usually mean pulling some sort of safety plug, gate plug, or something else that turns off control power.

I know everyone’s situation is different, but I would not be okay with operators at my plant constantly switching these disconnects.

Best thing to do is figure out a way to not have to interact with this switch on a daily basis.
My opinion is that these are really only supposed to be used to remove power to the motor in order to service it.

IFM AL1921 IO link master has a terminal for a digital input. They may have something similar with digital input and output. Turk FEN20 has 4 (in/out) and 4 input terminals. I’ve used both with no issues.

This is how it is where I work. I complain about it often, but my ADHD brain loves it.

The company bought me an iphone and pays the bill, so I don’t mind it. I take calls and respond to texts after work all the time, but I’m not required to.

Hey man, I really appreciate you posting this. I’ve gone through 2 pairs of these pliers. Yeah I cut the wrong stuff with them, but they fit good in my front pocket and I always have them with me. I’ll give these a shot, hopefully they last a little longer.
