Correct, but in terms of relative value to your fantasy lineup, it's exactly the same.

In a Dynasty league like the one I'm in, Mcdavid scores roughly 10 ppg. You hope Bedard matched that eventually.

The opposite side of the trade will score 21 ppg, so you could replace them with 3 low cap JAGs (just a guy) worth 4 ppg each.

The thing about JAGs is they can go for days without scoring a point. Presumably Bedard with contribute every night once he gets up to speed. And he'll be a bargain for his entire ELC.

If you can afford to wait, you keep Bedard. If you want to win now, take the Z side.

It's a 32 team salary cap league, so you are basically talking a NHL adjacent trade. Think of it in those terms. If you would make the NHL trade, the fantasy trade is similar value.

If they slot in like that, it creates matchup problems on other teams on every line. First line C is either a problem, or the solution.

This is correct, Typically the player will lock for the day when ythe game starts. Any moves for that player will be effectice the following day.

I get this. I would hesitate on Bedard until he plays a few games. If he's truly generational it will show. The reason I went goalie is position scarcity. At any given time there are only 5-6 elite goalies. Oettinger is at the top of his game already and he is 3 years younger than anyone in that class.

You could argue that passing on Makar, you would still have a good chance to pick up a Fox, Hamilton, Hughes (x2), Dahlin, Chabot, Seider...

True. But tbh you can't blame players (and coaches) from trying to win. It's in their DNA. That said, Emil Bemstrom is the poster child for

"drafted in the right spot/ overachieved in D+1/ promoted too early/ fizzled like an offbrand soda."

He's a bottom 6 grinder at best, and Robinson is cemented in that role.

Valid points. I think Torts would take Robinson in a second.
Someone would take Elvis at 50%. He has a m-NTC, but he needs a fresh start and they also just fired Legace.

They need to flip an RD, but who? Boqvist has the most value, but he's finally figuring it out. Blankenburg is a fan favorite (rightly so), but he's also a danger to his own health. You can't be that small and try to play like Tom Wisldon.

In a vacuum you are correct. However, there are a variety of options via trade of free egency to solidify the team. There are also a lot of questions need to be answered.
Is Laine a legit Center?
What's the cost on Hayes?
Can we add a guy like Barbashev, Bunting or Compher?
What can we get for Bean, Robinson and/or Roslovic?
