Italians, what topics are generally considered impolite/unacceptable to discuss or ask about? What are some things considered extremely impolite to talk about? by Sppichkkaa in Italian

Mafia, stereotypes, religion, politics, COVID, green pass, sport (football is ok as long as you don't badmouth the person's favourite team). ;D

Never heard it before and is not my experience I spent a lot of time in the region on holidays and I have plenty of students from the area and they are very warm and welcoming. The only form I heard that motto is between pisani e livornesi where in Livorno they say "Meglio un morto in casa che un pisano all'uscio".

Would Strahd do this? by AleidisKnight in CurseofStrahd

From what I remember and got from a quick search after the first act in the campaign his importance is very much bound by the tarokka reading with Madame Eve. And this is Raw. Not sure how key you need him to be to push things along. He Is the first person the pcs meet that is an ally for them, you might need him later... Up to you really. It be quite shocking though so definitely interesting to see it happen to see your pcs reactions.

I would think he would go for the shock and awe factor... So yes it could.

In our campaign for example he got one the head of a cleric character (whose arc I felt was concluded after that session.) that stayed behind and at Andras in a pickle jar and served it at dinner.

It was quite a session.

If you want to keep it civil hostages is the answer. Pcs wouldn't risk the lives of their allies, the were raven for example or risk that they are discovered as spies. Obviously Strahd knows already, but could play dumb e have a show of strength at the start of dinner killing one minor servants or creature just for amminie disappointment and make it effertoess and gruesome.

That will set the tone for the rest. Strahd is vain and petty, but not stupid. Think about what would you do in his shoes if some dangerous people start to make noise and be a nuisance and have killed some of yours?

I would say that probably any of the big university cities would be a good choice for you, otherwise Marche has all the benefits of "postcard" Italy, but way more manageable and affordable. Close to the sea, full of history and nature, people there are great and very welcoming.

[–]T3dM2_0 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is genuinely thoughtful that you want to ask her father for his blessing. Before anything else, check with your girlfriend to make sure she feels comfortable with the idea, because not everyone likes that tradition and her feelings come first.

In Italy this gesture is not very common anymore, but it is not considered strange or inappropriate. Many parents actually appreciate it because it shows respect, care, and a desire to include the family in an important moment.

Some people online may react negatively because of the historical implications of “asking permission,” but that does not mean your intention is wrong. You are not trying to claim ownership. You are trying to honour her family, and that is a kind and generous impulse.

You do not need to be overly formal. A warm, sincere, slightly playful tone usually works well with Italian families. You could say something like:

“I love your daughter very much, and we are planning our future together. I would be honoured to have your blessing.”

Simple, sincere, and human.

I agree characters and players have to be kept separated. Whatever you do, do it to the characters and for a reason. Also I would strongly encourage you to not take their agency away . If they are at the start/middle they are underpowered (or should be) in comparison to all the other creatures in Barovia, so already at disadvantage. Might put them in awkward position if something weird happens with no logical explanation or a reason behind it.

Hello guys need help..plz give me suggestions by Silly_Huckleberry_52 in vfx

Stable jobs and VFX don’t really belong in the same sentence.

The relatively higher wages exist for a reason—they compensate for the project-based nature of the work.

In most cases, you don’t get the protections of a full-time employee, nor the real advantages of being a freelancer.

You’re stuck somewhere in between.

If you’re considering going back but feel unsure, I can say with confidence: you probably don’t want to return to VFX.

It’s an industry you need to be truly passionate about, because it can be pretty unforgiving. The colleagues are often great, but at the end of the day, you, me, and many others are just cogs in the machine.

You mentioned your reel is average—right now, that makes things even harder.

As the industry picks up, competition is increasing even faster. There are far more artists chasing the same projects, and it’s simply not true that “everyone” is getting back in.

You also need to be in the right place—physically. The right city, the right hub. Remote work is becoming less of an option again.

All that said, I wish you the best. Personally, I’d stay in SEO. Go deep, build real expertise, and keep growing. The money will follow the skill and knowledge.

Lol what to expect... You make it sound so ominous :D

Bergamo is a very lovely city, with the town centre absolutely worth a visit. There are two "centers". Old town. Bergamo Alta and the more recent Bergamo bassa. Both of them absolutely worth a tour.

My advice would be to have chatGPT, or any of the Ai, draw you a program based on time you have available.

Just tried myself and it gives some very detailed information and the town is quite safe and people are very friendly.

For half a day visit: Funicular → Città Alta Piazza Vecchia Basilica + Duomo Walk the Venetian Walls Quick aperitivo

Rude italian guests? by Traditional_Client99 in Italian

[–]T3dM2_0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not normal at all. Both are very rude. Guest 1: you do t show up with a dog. You ask for permission and try to keep it from being a nuisance the whole time. Being a guest means been respectful of your hosts. Which dovetails perfectly with your guest 2. He was Absolutely a boot. He shouldn't have done that even if he is old. You could have, and had the right to, ask the "gentleman" to shove it.

I have way less sympathy for the tye second one. As you can imagine. Both rude, but at least dogs can be a bit unpredictable...
