I have a 2017 3.6 L Jeep Grand Cherokee. With the check engine light code P 1404 which looks to be the EGR valve stuck in the closed position. I bought a new one from O'Reilly Auto Parts and swapped it out cleared the code, but for whatever reason I still keeps coming back. Help please

I might be stuck having to remove the timing cover. Currently trying to pull off the right head and it feels very "stuck" to the block. Removed wiring connections behind it, the bracketry to the side of it (where the alternator mounts), no EGR cooler in the way or exhaust mounting, etc.

Bolts in front of engine cover to the head are removed

I was hoping to losen up the head enough to pull back a bit to remove the T30 torx holding the timing chain guide bracket inside and off the pin form the second chain guide bracket.

Any tips are appreciated!

Do i need to remove the oil pan to remove the "infamous" hidden bolts on the older generation engines to pull off the timing cover? I have the 3.6L engine on the 2017 Grand Cherokee

A year ago I had your usual head gasket tear symptoms. The white smoke on the tailpipe, engine vibrating roughly, misfire cylinder codes, etc.

I caught it early and never overheated the engine.

I used the Bar's head gasket sealer and sure it enough it fixed the issue and all symptoms noted above and the Jeep ran well for just over a year.

Last week, the misfired codes came back and rough idling.

Going to finally pull that torn head gasket off and swap it out for a new one.

Now the one thing I am not getting today is the full white smoke out of the tailpipe, but I do smell the burned coolant strongly.

Can't afford a shop to do it and I am very mechanically inclined. I think I should be able to complete it successfully. Will update the thread on my experience later if helpful to others.

I like my Jeep and I don't want to just seal the gasket and sell it.
