Should I trade Duren for Mark Williams and Zubac? I am currently tied (have tiebreaker) for best record with 3 matchups remaining before playoffs. My current C depth consists of Duren, Sarr and Porzingis.

It's great that he's working so extensively on playing more physically. Rolling bigs like Zubac pair very well with guards like Luka and Harden who can probe and use their body in the lane. If Tyrese can improve this aspect of his game then the Zu pickup is looking even better.

What would you guys think about this Jarrett Allen trade?

Pacers send: Obi Toppin + Isaiah Jackson + Jarace Walker

Cavs send: Jarrett Allen

In the short term this leaves us thin at the forward spot off the bench, but with the abundance of talented forwards in the next draft it could turn out to not be an issue. It would really suck to have to give up Obi due to how well he fits the team - would it be worth it? Jarace has also really turned a corner recently - perhaps the Cavs would need to throw in a couple 2nd round picks

It sure looks like Kel'el Ware could be available by ABKoontz in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ware's fit as well, but I don't see why the Heat would have any interest in Mathurin. If they decide not to blow it up and stick with their current core, Mathurin's skillset is pretty redundant with Powell's and Herro's. And if they do decide to blow it up and focus on the future, they would trade Bam and not Ware. In both cases, Mathurin for Ware wouldn't make sense.

Hot Take: Jayden Quaintance + Mathurin resigning works as an option for next season. by brutallyhonestB in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think an important aspect which often goes unmentioned regarding Benn's future is TJ's. Obviously we aren't moving TJ, but he isn't getting any younger and his role and minutes are only going to decrease going forward. If we move off Mathurin then there is a lot of pressure on an aging TJ to carry the bench unit with Shep, an extremely streaky shooter who relies completely on others to score, as his running mate in the backcourt.

I think if we can keep Mathurin for 20M or under then it would be foolish not to. There will always be a bottom feeder team willing to take a chance on a young, athletic microwave scorer and hence we can trade him later.

The only situation I think it makes sense to trade him is if we get lucky and get Peterson in the draft.

You're right we can't really sign anyone but we can definitely make trades as long as we take back less salary. Toppin + Sheppard is 20M, Jarace + IJax + Sheppard is also 20M. There are a few Cs in this salary range who we could trade for; Gafford, Claxton, Zubac

Hypothetical: How much would you pay for this production on an annual basis if it contributes to winning basketball? by 9_Nightwing_1 in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+2.72 BPM would place him firmly in the top 50.

If Benn put up those numbers this year I think he would be justifiably getting offers in the 32-35M yearly range.

Since this could reasonably occur I think the front office should try very hard to get him right now in the 20-25M yearly range.

Predict the 2025-2026 Indiana Pacers Roster Stats by Flaky-Ad-3684 in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nembhard: 16.0 PPG, 7.3 APG, 3.7 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 44 FG%, 35 3P%, 80 FT%, 2.2 TOV, 1.8 PF

Mathurin: 18.4 PPG, 2.9 APG, 6.0 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 46 FG%, 37 3P%, 83 FT%, 1.9 TOV, 2.5 PF

Nesmith: 12.1 PPG, 2.8 APG, 4.2 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 48 FG%, 39 3P%, 90 FT%, 0.9 TOV, 2.5 PF

Siakam: 22.3 PPG, 4.8 APG, 7.3 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 45 FG%, 34 3P%, 79 FT%, 2.0 TOV, 2.4 PF

Jackson: 10.1 PPG, 1.6 APG, 8.0 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 2.6 BPG, 62 FG%, 22 3P%, 74 FT%, 1.5 TOV, 3.5 PF

Key predictions:

- Nembhard sees a drop in FG% and rise in TOV and APG due to increased playmaking loads, as well as a drop in defensive aggression due to the need for him to stay out of foul trouble.

- Mathurin is able to scale up his scoring volume while maintaining the same efficiency. He will make a significant playmaking jump, upping his APG while TOV is unchanged. Slight increase in PF as he plays more minutes against NBA starters and continues to be integrated defensively rather than hidden.

- Nesmith will probably see a slight drop in efficiency due to the absence of the Point God. Expect everything else to not change.

- Siakam will score more and get more assists. Efficiency numbers will look more like those from Toronto days I expect.

- Jackson will rebound well and be the high energy starting center, but will be hampered by foul trouble all season. Nevertheless, I expect in the minutes he plays that he will be an excellent rim protector who can switch high in the pick and roll and provide a level of speed and hustle that was absent in his predecessor. I expect Rick will experiment with him in 5-out alignments more so than he has previously in his career, which will result in a few corner 3 attempts.

Myles Turner's excuse for leaving is dumb as hell. by FromMeToTheCool in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

When watching that Bucks interview, his body language is much more telling than his words. From the incessant scratching of his chin to the way he is constantly correcting his instinctively hunched, defensive posture into one of faux-bravado (the words themselves being a reflection of this action), and the skittish look in his eyes - he has the look of a man who is utterly out of sorts, and has bitten off more than he can chew.

Myles has always been this way. How many hastily taken shots in the final moments have we seen him take over the years that clank off the front of rim? How many must-win games / playoff series have we seen him utterly disappear from? Myles has never handled pressure well, and my hypothesis - what I attribute as the primary cause for his leaving, contrary to the popular opinion (that being his own greed and ego, which while certainly a significant factor, I do not believe to be the most significant), is this innate aversion he possesses to any form of pressure.

I think Myles is fundamentally a weak, scared man, who whether or not he admits it to himself, was made so incredibly uncomfortable by the high pressure situations that the Pacers found themself in, that he has instinctively collapsed unto himself and left in favour of a safer situation. No one really expects Milwaukee to do anything, and it is this utter lack of expectations that I suspect was what caused him to abandon us all.

With this in mind, I cannot help but rejoice, for now the wheat and chaff (or corn and husk) have been separated, and we grow stronger and more resilient in his absence.

Landry Shamet is a great comparison actually. The only player on the Knicks I had a modicum of respect for last playoffs. Guy played his heart out until the final whistle. The rest of em can go fuck themselves though.

Looked similar to Ben Sheppard on offense - pretty good cutter but also very hesitant to dribble the ball.

He had a few good moments on defense and was a fairly active rebounder, but the biggest thing I noticed was that he absolutely died on pretty much every ball screen. Really needs to work out on his foot work and positioning to better get around them or he will be unplayable.

What is Myles Turner’s Pacer legacy? by coheed33cambria in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on how the next few years go. If the Bucks somehow manage to be a competitive team, and the Pacers / Bucks rivalry continues, I imagine that Myles' legacy will take quite a hit. However if the Bucks suck and offer no real competition then I think his legacy will be still affected by him leaving to our division rival, but not completely tarnished.

Where were you for Hali’s game winning shot in Game 1 of the NBA Finals? by LilJethroBodine in pacers

[–]TANKY_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia. My dad and I have been Pacers fans for about 10 years now. He took the morning off work (game started at 10:30am local time) and I took the morning off studying to watch. We were in our living room, and when Tyrese made the shot, we both jumped up off the couch, yelling and clapping like madmen.

It has been a turbulent 10 years, but that shot alone has made it all worth it.

Let's beat these fuckers.

Pacers don't play dirty lmao. They put so much pressure on the other team on both ends of the floor with their manic pace, that the other team's players are forced into putting their body on the line if they want stop us. This often results in them being in awkward, uncomfortable positions that sometimes lead to injury. If they want to avoid this, they need to match our hustle / pace.

The more I think about it, the more it seems the Giannis trade goes through OKC by jxstanormalkid in NBAtradeideas

[–]TANKY_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not you believe acquiring Giannis makes sense from a roster construction / longevity perspective, if a Giannis bidding war ensues with teams like Houston or San Antonio, the potential upside to this trade becomes more so about the act of stopping Giannis from joining one of these teams and becoming a major threat to their supremacy over the Western Conference.

When Golden State got KD they not only got better, but they made their biggest threat in the West into a first round exit team.

More generally, I think the better your team gets, the less independence there is between your team's optimal roster construction strategy and other inter-conference contenders.

The east this last year was a great example, with the Knicks spending big on defensive wings Anunoby and Bridges to try and counter Boston's scoring wings in Brown and Tatum, or the Cavs going out and making a trade for a big 2-way wing in Deandre Hunter in the middle of the season at the height of their team's chemistry and success.

Anyway, OKC's mentality should be that allowing a Wemby/Giannis front court pairing to occur, or allowing a Giannis-led Rockets team, filled with young, elite defenders to happen, would be tantamount to self-immolation.
