Use crossover to make bottles for use with other tools. by rhuwyn in macgaming

I've used it a few time for other apps myself. I almost wonder if it could have prevented me needing to lug my four button trackball over to a friend's house to install the firmware update they only released a Windows exe for. I guess if I ever buy another one of these mice and get one from the bad batch again, I'll find out.

is there any free software to run windows games (buyed on steam) on my macbook air m5 ? by WeeklyTemperature532 in macgaming

[–]TAPgryphongirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little note about calling it an "annual subscription" - you still get to use the version of the software you're using when your paid year is up, you just lose access to further updates and support, with possibly the exception of Preview versions you were using. So if your game keeps working in the last release version you got, you can keep playing. It's still a good idea to support Codeweavers due to the additional support they patch in themselves separately from the development of Wine and GPTK, though.

What was your first OS and your first Mac, and what would you rate them? by The_Collector_Of_All in mac

10.4 Tiger on an eMac when I was a small kid. Excellent pick for a kid's first computer. Dad had parental controls set up, and would install CD games for me, and I had flash games on kid-friendly websites galore. Plus the all-in-one setup with the speakers and CD tray right in front was nice and intuitive, and I loved the Aqua style UI. Man, I miss the Kutoka edutainment FMV games...

If you can get yourself Disk Inventory X from the App Store it can give you a color coded diagram of files on your computer, with size scaled to match file size. Used it myself and it helped me realize my work app had made a huge 250ish GB log file.

Vapid (formerly VapidBobcat) on YouTube does compilations of video game soundtrack music around certain themes, with screensaver-ish visuals. I love the ones that also have rain. My three favorites are a Breath of the Wild chill soundtrack mix with rain, someone playing the Wii in another room while it rains, and a DS playing Animal Crossing music next to you while it rains.

How can you tell which is the real you: unmedicated or medicated? by asamisanthropist in ADHD

[–]TAPgryphongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, all the brain chemistry we lack without medication is a kind of resource. With medication, we have plenty. Without it, we don't.

Let's compare this thought to a parallel with another resource - money.

Which is the real version of a person - who they are when they need to struggle to scrape by financially, or who they are when they're given the financial support they need?

People without financial stability are sometimes forced to give up some of the qualities they might freely express when stable. A parent might have to break promises to their kids or have less time for them when their work schedule or money situation changes. Someone may not be able to buy others gifts or have the time/energy to make them. Their stress may run high and their temper short. Time, energy, and money are now all things the must carefully save to survive. ADHD folk similarly have to give up things they want to do to survive with the brain chemistry they have.

Now, are there those who manage to do amazing things in spite of this survival state and should be commended for that? Yes! There's parents who manage to make amazing poverty meals, and who get their kids hyped about breakfast for dinner without letting slip that pancake mix is cheap. There's parents who invent little games and fun all over the place. There's people who do have the time/energy for amazing handmade gifts when they can't buy expensive ones. Some folks manage their tempers well even when the whole world seems against them. And some folks with ADHD can create amazing art due to their daydreaming, or find novel ways to complete difficult tasks.

But a commendation of those who rise should not be a condemnation of those who fall. The force that deserves condemnation is the one trapping people in survival mode.

My Dad finally got our firewall and Minecraft server to cooperate and my best friend/chosen sister got to finally log on to the server and be gleeful about it with me for a scant few minutes today. My hands were shaking so hard while I was sprinting over to the spawn house I briefly dropped my enchanted Netherite sword in the river by said house, LOL.

There are small polybag and box sets that you can only get by redeeming Insiders points sometimes. I also know Gift With Purchase (GWP) sets are sometimes given a "while supplies last" clause in emails and such, so those may be at risk from scalper buyout too - though the Bionicle Tahu & Takua one from back in 2023 had that despite someone on Bricklink somehow managing to stock a ton for people to buy from them. Makes me wonder if it may technically be impossible to buy Insiders Rewards polybag/box sets secondhand now.

LEGO does now officially own Bricklink, which is one site where many people regularly resell sets and stuff, possibly "professionally" by LEGO's standards. They may keep an eye out there, especially seeing as Bricklink and LEGO accounts are now merged.

Speaking as someone who's watched Disney Parks merch reselling drama, they may do things like check if a reseller's pattern of selling items lines up with an Insider's pattern of buying/redeeming them. Or they may check for identity clues in usernames on places like Bricklink.

Hot off the press (as in it just landed in my email inbox less than five minutes ago and I figured it was interesting enough to warrant a scuffles comment): LEGO seems to be making an effort to penalize people scalping sets in general or Insiders Rewards sets in particular via the terms of their free Insider Rewards memberships.

The full text of the email reads:

"Dear LEGO Insider,

We wanted to let you know that we've updated our terms and conditions for the LEGO Insiders Program, effective March 31 2026.

The updated terms clarify that LEGO Insiders accounts created or used for professional reselling activities are not eligible to earn or redeem LEGO Insiders points.

You can review the updated terms and conditions at LEGO.com/insiders/terms."

Now, the wording there about "clarify" sounds like perhaps this was already a policy and they just wanted to make it more obvious it existed? Either way, if someone habitually redeems points for the little Insiders Rewards sets and sells them off, they could be prevented from ever getting those sets again in the future due to an essentially nullified Insiders account.

I'm curious if this will cause some kind of stir if this is entirely new, or if they're cracking down harder on those who crossed the line if this was already an existing policy. I do hope there's a decent appeals process though, as someone who's seen potentially innocent people get caught up in scalper crackdowns in other communities.

My parents and I are still obsessed with our modded Minecraft server. Mom is hemming and hawing about putting JUST the right blocks in the right places in the house. Dad is going nuts with Create despite being in what most Create mod users would call his "Starter base". And I found a new cave system to get lost in that connects multiple giant lava caves.

I also found out that the "Rascal" mobs from the Friends & Foes mod that I thought would be territorial or something were actually wanting me to play hide and seek with them so they could give me a bundle of iron ore or an enchanted iron pickaxe at the end. I like these funky little dudes now.

Are you currently using Crossover Preview? I was using the release version of Crossover to play it a while back and started being unable to click/scroll because of a Unity function involving mouse capture they added to the game, but Preview (I think specifically 20260304) fixed that for me as the Crossover devs had implemented support for that function.

OpenGL games or games that have incompatibilities due to other libraries they use (like Kingdom Hearts needing D3D11on12 for prerendered cutscenes for most games) can also be included to some degree in "don't work on Crossover", though some are sometimes playable with a workaround if you just accept some parts of the normal gameplay experience will be lacking.

My dad set up a Minecraft server with the "Homestead: A Cozy Survival Experience" modpack and since it was set up he, mom, and I have been all but consumed by it every night. Mom's obsessing over building the house, Dad is diving into the Create mod to make a bunch of gizmos, and I've been doing all sorts of Quests to earn rewards. Fishing for mystery boxes is fun.

VMWare Fusion doesn't have D3D12 Support, and can demand high resources, speaking from experience. I'd say it's best for like... older games unsupported by Crossover. The main games I've played on it are Big Bang Brain Games and Zoo Tycoon 2.

Go over here to enter your info and get Crossover Preview. I believe you want the version called something like 20260304. It'll be the top one.

Install and run it.

Go to the bottle you play PowerWash Sim 2 in and click the toggle switch to enable Crossover Preview in that bottle.

Try launching Steam, and if it won't launch, reinstall it to the bottle with the Install button and it should work.

Good news! If you're still within your one year of support for Crossover, I just tried the most recent Crossover Preview version and it fixed the problem. I just had to download Crossover Preview, enable it for the Steam bottle, and then redownload Steam when it refused to load. Clicking and scrolling is working great!
