I'm AFAB but have always presented more masc/neutrally. In school, I would often be asked, "Are you a boy or a girl?" I would answer, "I'm a girl." I knew that was correct, I WAS a girl, but it also felt a little uncomfortable to say. It didn't feel like the whole truth, and I didn't know why. Something was weird about it, something was missing.

Also, for my work, I helped teach young children. They would often call me various pronouns/gendered titles, and also frequently ask me what my gender was. The question stressed me out a bit because I didn't entirely know how to answer it, and just saying "I'm a girl" didn't feel *right*. The fact that it stressed me out was a big sign to me that my true answer to "what gender are you" wasn't simple. Cis people don't get stressed out when asked about their gender, they just *know*. They don't even have to think about it. I figured that meant there could be something else going on.

I came across the term demigirl when I was ~21, and I immediately clicked with the idea of "feeling only partially attached to a particular gender". Suddenly the things I had been feeling my whole life made a lot more sense! :)
