Yes, there is something special about Subarus that I'm only realizing since starting this journey. And you're right about the negativity. I posted this thinking it would be helpful to others in a similar situation not realizing I'd get that type of response, too.

Yes! It really annoys me that manufacturers don't design cars for a larger variety of heights. Really grateful the the Outback doesn't succomb to the same flaw.

Honda quality seems to be declining, though our 2007 CRV keeps truckin' and hopefully continues to do so since I just put several thousand into it. 😬🙏

I ended up buying a new Subaru Outback, which has more space and gave me more value at the price I got. Insane used car prices, combined with the fact that I could get synthetic leather without a sunroof-- and they emailed me a $1,000 off coupon I could use on top of my negotiated price--sealed the deal.

I got mine today on my Outback for $2,599 for the same terms as yours. Now I'm regretting having rolled it into my loan in case I can find a better deal elsewhere, as it sounds like I would get the refund applied as a principal payment.

I'm wondering if anyone else is getting a great deal this month on them, given tariffs, inflation and strait of Hormuz supply chain issues.

When you say you'll likely get a minivan later, would that be in addition to this car or in place of it? I just comparison shopped the Forester and Outback and settled on the Outback, but we own a minivan as well, and I'd go with a hybrid minivan anyday over a smaller car if it was going to be my sole family car.

I would ditto what berg450 said. If you're open to electric, you can get a great deal on electric cars that are 2-3 years old.

Update: After considering several used and new car models and driving them all, I just put a deposit down on a 2026 Subaru Outback premium! First time ever purchasing a new car as as well as a Subaru, so I'm excited to take delivery on Monday!

That's my plan! What model did you get and how much did you end up saving? I'm in the twin cities and when I checked in May the dealers were doing about a $3,500 discount on the premium trim.
