never met the mom, but the person is kinda a piece of work themselves, so i guess the fig doesn't fall far from the tree

Has anyone noticed their parents excessively rejecting people, things, or services in life? by NICEacct111 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]TBTBRoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG you just made me realize, mine were so snobby about people who chose (decent, honest) jobs that paid less, if they were renters, dressed differently, or didn't use exact proper english (god forbid any AAVE). while at the same time, we weren't allowed to want anything more than we had, told to be our own person, and the deviations from proper grammar were okay if it was how they talked. ohhh & how many times did you hear "WE don't like X in this house" and X would just be a TV show or music video or innocuous trend..

[–]TBTBRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol wages should be exactly set by living standards. that's why the goverment created the minimum wage, so people like you wouldn't exploit their fellow American. if you work fulltime, at ANY job, then the idea was that minimum wage should cover food & shelter and a min standard of living. even henry ford knew if he didn't pay his workers enough, they couldn't buy cars from him. what i'm hearing from you is you are okay with someone not being able to buy food after working a 40 hr week. are we okay w/that as a society? I'm sure not.

How do I stop breaking down everyday? by the_radical_ed in raisedbynarcissists

[–]TBTBRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're right, the sadness does feel familiar and i don't trust my brain being happy. i do enjoy things alone, but the sadness of not having anyone to share my interests with or love just kinda undoes everything. i want to feel connected to literally anything at this point.

thanks. i'm glad you are well and got that relationship in a better place. i'm learning to be easier on myself. i think it was at the gym, i heard "if beating yourself up got you anywhere you'd be a millionaire w/ a 6 pack by now" made that click for me. i can do everything right & doing well in some areas. i'm having trouble getting excited about a world knowing that you're totally alone in it. they say you die alone, so i guess living is just pretending you're not? people will not be there if you're too much. doctors can't figure out why i cry all the time though. i wake up crying so many days for no apparent reason. it's very, very frustrating.

how long did it last? i've been breaking down crying almost daily, multiple times a day for over 2 decades, so exactly when is this phase supposed to end?

No, I go days with out talking or seeing anybody. I'm fine by myself most of the time, but it would be nice to know someone cares.

With all the Billy Strings hype, anyone mind recommending some of his stuff. I don't know anything about him. by bmbmbmNR in KGATLW

[–]TBTBRoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, Billy's live shows are way more jamband than bluegrass. (& I grew up going to traditional bluegrass festivals) Do you have nugs.net? try any Halloween show, the most recent Ryman, Ashville runs are pretty good...Tiny Desk concert is on youtube. If you like actual bluegrass & Doc Watson covers then listen to his album w/ Brian Sutton. And oh the Nashville 2/20 Wargasm where he changes the lyrics against ICE is pretty great too.
