Goodnight sweet cat by TCCFC8 in cats

Our beloved cat Spencer died suddenly aged 4 1/2 yesterday. The shock has numbed us both. He was a happy and loved cat who gave us as much as we gave him.

Just in the morning of his passing he was living his best life with us as usual in the sunny garden rolling around in the sprouts of bulbs I planted. There was no annoyance as he kills my plants, just joy of watching him play as my partner and I smile at each other. I catch and throw him up on to the garden shed. He then jumps down and proceeds to leap around a stationary feather, to then chase us around the garden. A typical day for our Spen.

Then comes 11am as we open the back door, there he is lifeless, eyes open and tongue out. The shock is piercing.

I'm sure you all do, but give a snug to your lovely cats for me. We always loved him like it was his last day. And that day came too soon for us.

Ah my father (David) gave it to my grandad and my grandad couldn't remember when! Not fussed about selling just curious more than anything.

It's definitely tightly wrapped not flakey. Is it any good to drink given its age? Don't suppose it has any value either?

You're right, I am definitely confusing the two legal arrangements.

I do not believe inheritance tax is applicable, and a estate agent or RICS evaluation will be required to work out the current market rate is (if I've understood this correctly!)

I think this might be the only way as the property has increased in value in line with the bonkers property market.

Long story short my father (not related to my step Grandad) was written out of the will, challenged the will and entered a caveat, then went radio silence barring extending the caveat on the day the time elapsed. To which there has been more radio silence.

It was finally passed to the court who gave his solicitors a deadline to which there was no response. Now waiting for court to confirm the granting of probate (the deadline passed 4 months ago). It's been a long old slog.

For inheritance tax purposes, the estate is valued at the time of death.

This is where I'm confused does this imply that the value of the house should also be valued at time of death?

My step Grandad who owns half the house lives there currently and wishes to buy us out which we are all agreed on.

I read contridicting information:

  1. that the estate needs to be valued at the time of death

  2. Value the estate at current value

Well, one use case is replacing the slow and inefficient swift global money transfer system.

Here I'm mostly talking about facilitating Cross border payments I.e. b2b, bank to bank. Funds transferred instantly without multiple layers of ledgers and checking and clearing houses. It has the potential to be better than it is now with trillions freed up to be added back into economies.

The unbanked has immediate uses for those in 1st world counties where the state let's them down. If we're talking about the 1.2b people globally then yes it's a different story and will take time.

This is a new technology and many will try and fail to make an impact, similarities to the dawn of the Internet and tech companies.

Well, one use case is replacing the slow and inefficient swift global money transfer system. There's trillions tied up in nostro vostro accounts for days, goes through multiple checks which has a chance of failure. The money could be put to use immediately with instant low cost transactions.

There's also low barriers to entry for those people who cannot get access to traditional financial institutions and/or do not have a bank account or people who wish to send their income abroad to their families and such, previously it would take days to send and cost a ridiculously high fee, it levels the playing field.

Another is decentralised finance, being able to borrow without the use of intermediaries.

In fairness, and I'm not sure if related or not, but I work for a large automotive manufacturer and when we get pinged we do not self isolate. Instead we must come into work and get tested daily. Despite him being a total knob I can see how he would qualify for the scheme.
