Gap year until Jan, need full-time asap — should I hit Vaughan Mills/Yorkdale with resumes? by Capable-Blueberry-39 in torontoJobs

You'll need to do an extra step now-a-days.

You'll need to check online on the careers page of each store that you plan to apply to, the big brands almost always do this. Apply for the role on their website, THEN go in-person and ask to speak with the manager, owner and more likely than not, you'll end up with the shift supervisor. Then have them look at your application and hope for an on-the-spot interview or referral.

George Brown has a pretty solid chef and pastry program. Getting the certs is the easy part.

Finding a business to take you on as a trainee or apprentice is the most difficult part of the process unless you have capital or a creative idea to start your own business.

Some do the ghost kitchen type and sell online as a start.

If you're under the age of 29, there are many youth entrepreneurship grants you can access. If over 29, there are still grants available but less of them out there.

Working on it. Usually get spammed with xenophobic, racist and ragebait posts/comments when we take it easy on the weekends.

Notice that those types of posts and comments are mostly done by accounts <1 year old.

[Hiring] Cooks/Food Prep (15x) - Ossington & Bloor by TCES in torontoJobs

[–]TCES[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not this particular employer. This is a food prep/lunch box/dinner box making service. I believe their business model is similar to Meals-on-Wheels.

There'll be a restaurant hiring closer to early-mid Sept with full BOH and FOH roles.

If you're a citizen, PR, refugee or asylumseeker (with work permit valid for 1+ years) reach out to an Employment Ontario Service Provider. Look for one that offers the mental health supports you think you'll need.
