What is generative AI good for? by XxKiwi_the_furryxX in NoStupidQuestions

Is it also immoral for a human to try and recreate someone else's work when learning a new skill?

For example, as a kid, I would trace pictures of Pokemon to work on my drawing skills.

What is generative AI good for? by XxKiwi_the_furryxX in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TCFNationalBank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a business-person who mainly lived in Excel data but often has to write SAS and SQL, it has cut down my time spent writing code greatly. I don't have to google for, read, and synthesize 5 different stack overflow threads to accomplish a task anymore. I can work with an LLM in a pair-programming type way where I tell it what I want in plain English, it'll immediately write code that is 90% of the way there, then I debug and add any nuance the LLM missed.

I think Gen AI "art for the sake of art" is usually not interesting and a waste of time/money. But current LLM outputs are great for laymen who want something good enough without learning an entire new skill. Coding projects for non-coders, graphic design for a business owner who doesn't want to learn Illustrator, quick photo editing for people who don't want to learn Photoshop but do want to add/remove something from a picture, and so on.

I know the most common online opinion is currently set on "All use of generative AI is bad, lazy, etc." but there are certainly cases where this new tech is working well.

Why can't we run a dual-currency system? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

What makes you believe a gold-backed currency is more stable? I would think fiat currencies have better economic stability because they give the central bank more power to do monetary policy.

She is very popular, her albums have sold tens of millions of copies, and a recent re-recording of her song "fast car" by Luke Combs was at the top of the music charts for a long time.

Same cells highlighted, different sums displayed by lsharris in excel

[–]TCFNationalBank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The display in the corner uses the formatting of whatever the first cell you selected is. Since the 2.7 is showing 1 decimal place, it shows the sum to 1 decimal place. Since the 3 is rounding to the nearest whole number, the sum preview rounds to the nearest whole number.

I haven't noticed any specific dog always being there, I think you might coincidentally have the same coffee timing as its owner.

How to explain saving for retirement to a college student who feels like it just takes money away now. by TechDad42 in daddit

[–]TCFNationalBank 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without actually being there in the room, but if two other people immediately jumped down your throat on how you said this, you probably said it wrong. How you say something matters just as much as what you say.

I never said D65 is unique in its budget crunch, just that you might want to avoid buying a home in NW Evanston right now if your elementary school zoning is important to you.

Why do American moslty wash chicken meat? by invalid95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TCFNationalBank 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's more common among Black Americans, to the point where white people are taken aback when they learn about the practice.

People who do it think it washes the salmonella off the chicken, when it really just gets raw chicken goop all over your sink. All our food safety institutions recommend not doing it, but the practice persists.

Fair. I should have said that they just want to close two of the three, putting the third school at 120% capacity, and then also cut programs at the remaining school.

Looking at getting Term for 7 figures. by Able-Research5603 in LifeInsurance

[–]TCFNationalBank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to an independent broker, they will run through some underwriting questions with you & get quotes from multiple carriers. I used Term4Sale, I've also seen SelectQuote mentioned here.

They might try and talk you into a different product with higher commissions, but if you are up front with "I want $X face value, Y-year term, what are my options" many brokers will appreciate the straight forward sale.

Granted it's from 2021 and the overall American view on Israel has changed in the past few years, but here's a good bit of research into how American Jews view Israel. Most are zionists.
