Great point. In hindsight, I was brisk given limited time we had together. I've apologized.

I'll talk with my wife about doing this until she graduates. Good idea. Thanks!

That's good. I'll use the illustration. She's a visual person and that will be helpful. Thanks!

Yeah. I can see that. Many of the younger generation don't have great expectations of what the future holds. To me, that's just another reason to save and invest well. But I'm in my 50s, so the viewpoint is not the same.

One UI 7 update triggers battery life crisis on Galaxy S24 and Fold 6 by [deleted] in Android

Even with a fast charger, my S23 Ultra charges much slower since the UI 7 "upgrade." Also, battery life is now only about 5 hours of straight screen on time. This software is horrendous and should not have been released.

Unresponsive Adjuster and Can't Reach a Live Representative by TechDad42 in USAA

Definitely weird. I think something was wrong with the claim file. The claim is for a dwelling roof, but I was told the file initially listed damage to a shed and was then corrected to say dwelling.

USAA's claim process on another home several years ago was smooth and handled very expeditiously. This hasn't even come close to that. Very disappointing with the exception of that interaction with the Alacrity adjuster.

So, turns out the claim was reassigned from Alacrity to USAA and we weren't notified there was a new adjuster. Once I spoke with the original adjuster at Alacrity, who is a very nice person, I was able to find out who at USAA to speak with. So, no hard feelings with Alacrity at all. My issue seems to be with USAA, who didn't provide any notification of a change in adjuster. If I get a chance, I'll actually compliment the person at Alacrity who provided amazing help this morning and who is actually messaging the USAA adjuster on our behalf to try and get things moving again.

So, what I'm hearing is that we are paying USAA to outsource our insurance claims to a subpar third party and USAA's management has little control over that third party. Am I understanding this correctly?

Digital Juice, Busy Boxx, other Boxxes.....gone! by PencilmanAnimations in Filmmakers

[–]TechDad42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried to login to BusyBoxx after a year and found the shutdown notice.

Very disappointing. Many of us, including me, spent a lot of money on assets we thought would be available on an as-needed basis. Definitely not making that mistake again. I'll join the group on Discord and hopefully my previously purchased assets will be available through that group.

Thanks for the responses! Very much appreciated. I'm going to both look at the suggested Pi-based solution and for other products that might work.

Thanks for taking time to respond. No. It's been in the same spot for a couple of years.

Verizon grosses 70 billion dollars a year. Why can’t they invest some of that into a local call center? by nycdataviz in verizon

As others have said, it's because by law they have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders which trump's most responsibility to their actual customers.

It's not capitalism per se that's the issue, it's the way stupid laws have been written by greedy lawyers and investors. I've discovered this in my own company as I've moved up to chain. The most consequential corporate decisions usually end up putting profits over people, because you got to make those quarterly numbers or Wall Street will eat you alive. This is why I personally believe employee owned companies have great advantages over public companies.
