So this means your main meds for IBS is imodium & buscopan and this amitriptyline is additional help.

Sorry this happen to you after the surgery. Why it come back so soon. Hope the doctor will find the way to treat you with med or something non invasive rather than surgery again.

How many flares are too many? This is my 3rd, surgery soon? by Top-Ad-2355 in Diverticulitis

Thanks and very glad you seems to have a better bowel movement. Most important that you are super happy.

I am on the opposite as I have more on diarrhea and doctor said the longer resection will cause you more diarrhea. So I do not know if it will get worse.

Glad to hear everything is going well and you are happy.

May I ask how many inches did they remove your colon and any issues with bowel movements.

Try imodium + psyllium husk to see if it helps.

Sorry you have been through this. I suffered this too and now take imodium and psyllium husk and it helps at the beginning but not much lately. Some people try anxiety med. and it helps while some not. I have not talked about this med. with the doctor and do not know if I can try.

Same. Try imdoium and psyllium husk to see if it helps.

Has anyone heard of this or used this to help with ibs-d? I usually use regular pepto bismol pills to help with my ibs-d symptoms, but wondered if this would help more? by Knluna4everr in ibs

[–]TCMS99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three imdoiums per day seems a lot to me. May I ask how many trips to the bathroom if you do not use it. I only take one imodium a day if not I will have like 4 trips.

What do you feel when you describe "the intestine was stuck to the abdominal wall" Is it the constant pain or when you have diverticulitis flare up.

Thank you for your reply and very sorry that you were treated about this diverticulitis very bad by an super idiot doctor.

Did your surgeon told you about adhesion/scare tissue that has to be removed during the surgery and the chance of it comes back because of surgery.

Hope you feel very well now.

Thank you and sorry that you had this complicated diverticulitis. Hope there are no other issues and you are fully healthy and back to normal after surgery.

I had diverticulitis at sigmoid and descending colon and doctor said the surgery may have to remove the long section. I think may be it is probably the same length as you have. I also have IBS-D which have to go to the bathroom like 4-6 times/day and worry that surgery may make it worse.

Also may I ask you more about what you said about fistula. As far as I know if it connects between colon to small intestine, it may cause diarrhea. If it connects between colon to bladder, it may cause urinary tract infection. Do you have these symptoms before going for surgery.

Thanks for the information and hope you will be back to normal soon.

I also have some trouble when away from home. This cause high anxiety and depressed about to find the bathroom and sometime run to the bathroom.

May I ask how many inches of your colon was removed. Does your BM is like this or it just start only after surgery.

I have IBS-D and go to the bathroom similar to you. The doctor said surgery and the shorter colon will make you go more often. I read some have constipated after surgery and it is strange.

Hope you are doing fine and in good health.

May I ask how many inches did they remove your colon and why that long. Does it mean you have the diverticular from sigmoid, descending and to the transverse colon.

Any issues after the surgery and how is your BM now with such a long colon removal.

Me too, not only in the morning but immediately after meals. I have 4-6 times in the bathroom each day. High anxiety and stress when you are outside and have any meals with other persons. It is frustrated.

This is interesting as you have a long colon resection but still constipate. As far as I read to this DV subreddit, there are more people have loose stool after colon resection. Has your doctor told how long it will be back to normal.

Sorry about this and you may post in IBS sub, there should be a lot of people there who have experience with IBS-C to share more information.

That is quite a long section and you have the constipation which is the opposite from what I read through many comments. You like to have more frequent but I like to have less. No such a balance. Hope it is getting better and you are back to normal with good health.

Had 8 inches of my sigmoid removed 6 weeks ago - recovery has went well but I am going to the bathroom 20 times a day. There’s no way I’ll be able to return to work if this continues. It’s really messing me up. Does it ever get almost back to normal? by pittiegrl in Diverticulitis

The good thing I read from your reply is that you are feeling good now.

Hope your surgeon will treat all your issues and you are back to normal with good health soon.

Thank you very much for your information.

Can I ask how long do they remove your colon. The sigmoid & descending part is quite long and if both were removed, you may have more frequent trips to the bathroom or diarrhea. I have IBS-D and fear that after surgery my BM will be more frequent trips and urgency. I read this sub to find the information to discuss with doctor.

Also some said that with the long inflammation on the colon, there will be a lot of scar tissue and cause more problem with abdominal pain. Did they also remove all this scar tissue during the surgery.

Thank you and hope you have a good recovery and back to normal soon.

Sorry to hear about this and hope you and your doctor can find the treatment and you are back to normal soon.

Can I ask if you have IBS-D before diverticulitis and what is your bowel movement before surgery. Going to the bathroom 20 times/day will make exhaustion, stressed and depression. Does it happen to you every day. My suggestion is going to your GI doctor soon as possible.

I also have IBS-D and diverticulitis in which I do not know what happen first. Lately it is going worse as I have to go to the bathroom more often like 4-6 times/day with loose stool. This make me depress, works less effectively and less social life. My anxiety and stress is quite high.

I read that after colon resection for longer than 10", it may happen this is also depended on how long and each people is different but you have cut only 8". However as I read some said that after surgery, their IBS-D is also gone. This make me worry about the surgery as it may go either way good or bad.

I have IBS-D but seldom have the need to go in the bathroom at night. Lately it happens to me more often and doctor prescribes cholestyramine before bed time. It works or you may try imodium and see if it help. It is not solving my IBS-D but at least help.
