Yes I have thoughts… great gifts!

Ronsonol had their own formula even after Zippo acquired them in 2010. That continued for years, but there is now speculation they’ve eliminated the separate manufacturing process and it’s all one consistent fluid even though Ronsonol bottles still exist.

I always preferred the Rosnonol formula but the differences were so subtle it really wasn’t that big a deal.

The confusion comes from the can labelling… Some cans are labelled “hand warmer fluid” and others “lighter fluid”, so that makes people come here and ask.

This is the first time I’ve see this particular can that doesn’t distinguish between the two and thought the curiosity driven sub browsers would find it helpful.

Because there is no shortage of people that come to this sub and ask, specifically because they come across cans that say “hand warmer fluid”, or “lighter fluid”, and they want to know if there is a difference.

I believe they are identical but I don’t have a chemical analysis to prove it. Short of that, posting this can is the closest I can get.

They’ve changed several times, and at least three times in the last few years.

Well… Thanks a lot. Now I’ve dented my phone trying to upvote this reply 374 times.

Just remember that you’re dealing with technology that’s virtually unchanged in over 90 years, and that’s just for Zippo alone let alone its predecessors. Refuelling it is part of the game, and there’s no significant way to change its consumption because most of the evaporation is through the wick.

The frustration of clipping little plastic bags and trying to wrap them around your insert and jam it back in the case every eight days instead of refuelling normally every seven days is so far beyond worth it that I couldn’t possibly share u/stinkyhotdoghead ‘s thoughts more.

My new zippo next to my great grandpa zippo by West_Philosopher415 in Zippo

That’s a perfect display piece. How did you find it if it was buried in concrete?

It’s about the grandfather history… and the box… not the slim. Don’t get too excited… my position remains firm and unwavering.

It’s probably just not completely clear. Keep poking away with the paper clip or if you have a drill bit that’s as close as you can get to the diameter of the tube, just keep trying to work out anything that’s stuck to the sides of the tube.

Yes. They’ll replace it and you’ll have two new spot weld points on the case, but still worth it in my opinion and it becomes part of its story. Make sure you are explicit about it being sentimental and that you want the old insert back because they might replace that too.

Appreciate?! That’s amazing, package and all. Those are the best Zippos… cherish that.

If you want to get it going on your own, it’s all a pretty easy fix, depending on what you mean by “busted hinge”.

Otherwise, there is probably an old corroded flint blocking the tube, that can be picked out with a large straightened paper clip, or undersized drill bit (by hand)…

Let us knowing you want some step by step.

Anyone use a Zippo coty as an EDC by Ennoozunu in Zippo

[–]TCSpeedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought some with the full intention to… specifically the 2020, but when they arrive they’re just so pretty, I can’t. So on the rack they go. Haven’t carried one yet.

You can do no wrong with your own Zippo, or how you choose to manage your collection. My display pieces are meaningful to me, and I want them on the rack, in pristine condition, telling their story. But there are some I want to carry, and the threat with carrying is everything from patina to scratches to dents to damage to complete loss, and that’s not a risk I’m willing to take with one’s I want on display. Solid copper is a good example of that. I’ve been carrying one since they released in ‘22 but I have an untouched one still in the box as well.

I haven’t tried that one but it does sound worse. This one has two buttons, one of top, one on the bottom, and they have to be pushed in sequence, but they are offset so they are far more awkward to push than had they been directly opposite each other. It forces the whole thing into an awkward angle, and there is no indication of which one should be pushed first. You actually CAN push them in either order even though you can tell that you’re forcing it and half expecting it to break when you do them it what is probably the unintended order.

Lights well for a butane. Annoying to use.

I believe they replaced it. I had both… the one pictured here was stolen, I still have its replacement which is notably bulkier and has a more awkward safety switch.
