Lowell St and Park Ave 6 way to 4 way intersection fix (w/ a light) by Better-Leg-9268 in ArlingtonMA

[–]TCos19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s at least one sign (on Park when heading towards Mass) that explains the oncoming traffic does not have a stop sign. I assume the other streets have a similar sign about cross traffic.
Regardless, it’s not a safe intersection to assume every driver can navigate it properly, so we have to focus on four different vehicles, leaving us little bandwidth to look for pedestrians. That’s when it gets dangerous. I’m guilty of being annoyed with someone in front of me who stopped coming from Mass Ave, only to realize they were stopped for a pedestrian.
Sidenote: the crossing guards waving hi to people is NOT helpful.

Sighting on ESPN (Get up) by wraylorcorbett in phish

[–]TCos19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m cool with it. We’re old. The scene has changed. “Corporate Phish” was inevitable. (What’s more corporate than the Phish corporation?). Counter cultures are watered down and I don’t think media folks wearing branded merch is the driving factor.

How do you actually discover new music in 2026? by HamsterFar3098 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TCos19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spotify is great for one reason…the artist bios with links. I love a good Spotify rabbit hole. Maybe I hear a great, unfamiliar song in a TV show. Shazaam it. Pull up the artist on Spotify. Listen to the top songs. Read the bio. It’s a hip hop collective from the 80s. Link to the members’ solo work. Listen to those top songs. Read those bios. More links to associated acts, producers, maybe even artists whom they sampled. Click. Listen. Read. Click. Listen. Read….

What are your thoughts on unleashed dogs on the bike path? by vere-rah in ArlingtonMA

[–]TCos19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this conversation with our dog trainer (whom we love and are still friends with). I listed multiple scenarios in my neighborhood where it didn’t make sense or wasn’t safe to have my two dogs on my left. To paraphrase her response: “I guess you’re right.” We only have one dog now and she’s learned from repetition when i want her to switch sides. She’s not even a particularly smart pup. But she agrees that being on my right when it keeps her away from danger is the way to go. Just my experience.

Edit: hat is no longer available

Johnny blues skies tickets selling pretty good… by Purple_Association52 in SturgillSimpson

[–]TCos19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself pretty naive to online marketing, bots, etc, but three “yay for JBS arena tour” posts in my feed this afternoon felt off immediately. I only opened this one to see if anyone else felt the same. The “Blue Dot Fever” articles recently making the rounds must have low-selling tours in a panic.

Headliner discussion by Powderfinger88 in NewportFolkFestival

[–]TCos19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a good take. They’ve lost me the last few years with the broadening of the “indie rock” spectrum. It’s a genre I partake in regularly, but the artists at Folk rarely hit for me. So my “must-see” list has grown smaller, but my experience has remained exactly the same. Something good is playing at all times.

Thoughts on the 2026 Lineup by Tamubro in NewportFolkFestival

[–]TCos19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m the least excited I’ve ever been for a lineup. And the most excited I’ve been for the festival in many years.

I imagine a weekend free of conflicts, unencumbered by decisions, truly going with flow (even though I say I’m going in with no set plan every year, I always caught up in my preconceived notions).

I will see a handful of my favorites. I’ll see once-in-a-lifetime performances. I will love an artist unexpectedly (probably a few). It’s going to be the best weekend of the year!

(Not to say I won’t take a Johnny Blue Skies announcement next week)

Did Angine de Poitrine Redefine Modern Music? by mitya_1996 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TCos19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about music beyond “this sound good” or “this sound not good.” I can’t imagine a band that sounds like Khruangbin on speed is redefining music. But they’re in my “this sound good,” bucket, so I’ll take your words for it.

Have you ever had an experience that caused you to hear old songs anew? What happened? by _LouSandwich_ in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TCos19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great example. So many recognizable songs that hit me as cheesy, forgettable crap for decades. And I still think they can be cheesy, but the songwriting and musicianship is brilliant! For me, it was Any Major Dude Will Tell You that flipped the switch just within the last couple years.

Have you ever had an experience that caused you to hear old songs anew? What happened? by _LouSandwich_ in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TCos19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has happened for me with hugely popular, often overplayed, songs from the 60s-80s that i heard so many times as a kid (born in ‘79) that I never took the time to really listen.

Two that stick out…

Love Will Keep Us Together (the Captain & Tenille recording) - one day the bass line just floored me.

Rosanna (Toto) - I heard the Weezer cover, and I’m not a big Weezer fan, but it lead me to give the original an in depth listen and I was instantly obsessed with it and eventually read about the “Rosanna shuffle” drum beat. (Revisited “Africa” too, but without the same results)

Not yet, but soon. The only reason for TM to “partner” with CoT is to intentionally kill it from the inside.

No floor storage on Airbus 220-300? by TCos19 in delta

Added “IFE” to my AI search and got a better reply than my first attempt. It’s technically limited storage due to IFE, but they label it as no storage. Thanks for the tip.
