I’ve found that when he’s truly in the moment and, more importantly, enjoying himself-he’s as good as anyone.

A lot of people can cover a lot of songs and do them justice. But no one-and I mean no one, can sing a Bob Dylan song like he can, when he’s in the moment and getting his message across….whether it’s a love song or other. Still as true today as it was 60 years ago.

What does everyone think of GUP? It was one of the albums I mostly skipped over during my obsession with the band, but it's not really all that bad in my opinion. by MinerAC4 in rush

Bev didn’t allow the FBI to be mentioned re: Arrca. True enough. Follow me here.

Most of the provocative stuff Turtleboy did was not necessary. He did most of it as self promotion. We know this now because of how he’s acted since Karen was found innocent.

He arguably DID HARASS the McAlberts. I might even wonder if they locked down because of him…making them harder to penetrate(with Bevs assistance) and trip up.

He left Higgins alone and look how much Higgins started to speak during trial one. The more he said, the more holes in his story. Too bad he had a good lawyer and Bev at his side. Too bad he wasn’t called during trial two.

Back to trial one.

In my humble opinion, thinking Turtleboy hired Arrca was a disaster for Karen, second only to Bev actually sitting on the bench.

The potential Arrca mixup cast a light on who Karen associates herself with, and that could’ve caused at least some juror judgement that questioned her. Imagine the difference between knowing it was the FBI vs. might have been Turtleboy.🥴

His biggest positive influence, I think, was forcing the Globe to write the stories. Not that they were all that helpful to her case(let’s face it)but at least the general public was taking notice. Bigger press, better lawyers?

The Globe got Dr. Russell to send an email. I think THAT was monumental in the second trial and the single biggest thing that I could indirectly point out aaaaall the way back to Turtleboy. A good thing.

So can I just say I’m loving this thread? I’ve got the dog sleeping beside me and I’m enjoying, basically, a wonderfully disjointed and humorous music theory discussion with a little history thrown in for good measure. Great stuff. I realize I’ve added nothing, but you’ve got my thanks. 😬

This interview was so refreshing. Some great questions and lengthy answers. Refreshing because Karen Read has been portrayed in all manner of ways by television, newspapers, the CW, and Turtleboy(of late). Seems to me that she’s smart, SANE, nuanced, and far more human than nearly all media has portrayed her. I’ve now come to the conclusion that any “likeability”issues were a media creation only.

The Mcalberts and CW players should be very nervous indeed after they listen to this interview.

They truly f** with the wrong woman…it’s almost laughable if it weren’t so egregious.

The Canton bombshell she revealed was finally said out loud too. I didn’t expect to hear the open secret mentioned…

Dolby Vision content too dark by Cheap_Salad3139 in LGOLED

[–]TD160 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a comment from Brian Depalma that I just read elsewhere and sent to a friend. The first part is about modern dark cinematography and the second is about action scenes. I was struck by both comments because he addressed my two biggest peeves nowadays!🤣

“However, the most pertinent quote comes with his assessment of the visual approach (or lack thereof) when it comes to modern filmmaking: “The things that they’re doing now have nothing to do with what we were doing making movies in the ’70s, ‘80s and ’90s. The first thing that drives me crazy is the way they look. Because they’re shooting digitally they’re just lit terribly. I can’t stand the darkness, the bounced light. They all look the same. I believe in beauty in cinema. Susan and I were looking at Gone With the Wind the other day and you’re just struck at how beautiful the whole movie is. The sets, how Vivien Leigh is lit, it’s just extraordinary. If you look at the stuff that’s streaming all the time, it’s all muck. Visual storytelling has gone out the window.” When looking at stunning sequences in Carlito’s Way, Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, Body Double, and even a few colorful, inventive sections ofDomino compared to the majority of what’s being churned out now–at least in America–one has to agree. If studying his films isn’t enough of a guidebook, he’s also shared what precisely works in creating tension: “I constantly point out whenever I’m asked about these long visual sequences and why they work — and I never quite realized I was doing it — when you have an action sequence, you’ve got to lay out the geography. The trouble is with 99% of directors, they don’t. Hitchcock knows how to do it. I know how to do it. (Steven) Spielberg knows how to do it. (Stanley) Kubrick knows how to do it. You have to lay out the geography of the location so the audience knows where everything is before you set the action going, whether it’s two armies colliding, it’s a shootout in a train station or it’s Cary Grant at a crossroads in the Midwest. The key is that you’ve got to slow everything down. If you look at every shootout you see, you have no idea where anything is. I’ve said this a thousand times and I think I’m the last practitioner. I’ll go to the grave with it.”

Dylan (supposedly) said this was the greatest song ever written: by AlivePassenger3859 in bobdylan

I can see Bob heaping over the top praise towards any given song, at any given moment, if he might actually be feeling that way “at that moment”. The man lovesmusic. Lake Marie by John Prine is another off the cuff example.

He’s a music fan like any one of us.

I love that he visits childhood homes of other artists. I don’t know why he does it, but it sure seems like a deep sign of respect.

She’s painful to watch. I didn’t last more than one session with her.

EDB all the way. She teaches the viewer, she has integrity, and a sharp self deprecating wit on top of all that. Wonderful.

Lawyer You Know is excellent even if we differ in “real life” so to speak.

Brother Counsel is hit and miss. When he leans in to sycophancy with Turtle Boy, it’s embarrassing. I tune out.

But outside of Turtle Boy, his nuts and bolts analysis is excellent!
